AC delco fm Was the best thing in those times which is what I ran & why it’s written on every forum. Amsoil & motul mtf are the best today. 100% synthetic.
@@kevinthecreator9 honestly, its still kinda notchy, its drained out 2 quarts and i filled it with exactly 2 quarts. I’ve read in some forums they’ve filled it with .2-.4 more and the notchiness went away so Im going to try that later on today when I get home and report back. I was hoping the uploader would update us with his experience but i didnt find anything. Lmk how yours goes.
@FlyinGato So would you say that the Pennzoil and Valvoline Syhchromesh MTF that's available at the parts store is better than Honda MTF too? It would be going in my 5th gen Prelude In what situations would the Honda, Synchromesh stuff be better?
i have a 2020 si. 4k miles got second gear crunch already. only happens low rpm with quick shifts. i think the oem mtf is just bad even the improved version is just bad. im going to change mine this week and lets see if it fixes it.
@@pianodemon109 no i did not replace it. the syncros on these are horrible. if you mess up a shift even 1 time can give you the crunch. only solution is to replace the fucking syncro. best way to get that replaced is under warranty or your fucked with an expensive job or if you can do it yourself. Warranty wont replace unless its a constant crunch. so if its intermittent they wont. Don't fix unless your 100% comfortable with the car so you dont fuck up a shift again. sucks...
I am on amsoil in my Si. Don't have any issues with it or my gear box. I am thinking of going back to Honda MTF as everyone is recommending to stick with Honda. I am looking for this now 😅
Doing mine today. Went out and got the friction modified like u said. Thanks for the tip
Once again, your videos save me! High quality stuff right there, Gato. Thanks.
Happy to help!

Hi, nice work 👍do you know what’s the oil requirements from Honda for this oil? O mean; viscosity, in the Bottle is not any description of it
@flyingato u should try redline mtl fluid ...
If this doesn't work out I'll try that next
Cool....
What about Motul MTF?
About to do this tomorrow on my 2014 Accord Sport 6MT. Kinda notchy going into 2nd and 3rd on the oem Honda mtf. Will update afterwards.
Let me know my type r is due for a Tranmission fluid change !!

I took it racing since the video, it did perfectly (look at my last video)
@@FlyinGato oh ok thank you, will do!
@@Hakuna_My_Tatas did adding .3 quarts more make a difference?
More fluid is definitely bad! 1.9 is 1.9, and never overfill the fluid!
Yeah overfilling will cause the fluid to foam up.
@@jacktran960 yup this guy does not know what he’s doing
Are there any aftermarket synchro's for that gearbox? Does Synchrotech have them?
Great video. Is this gear oil full synthetic 75w80?
I’m actually not sure, I assume it’s fully synthetic
@FlyinGato
So ultimately what ended up being the better manual transmisison fluid for the type r , ac declo or amsoil ?
It's been synchromesh FM
@@FlyinGato seems like amsoil better get something with a fortified additive or friction modifier
@@lightningsmokerXx The FM stands for friction modified. So the fluid he used does have Modifiers.
After two years, do you still recommend the AC Delco FM or is there a new better one?
Definitely the AC delco FM
Any update for us please? Any crunch under track use since the new fluid?
I saw provided link. Bottle says Semi Synthetic. Is this fluid available in full Synthetic?

In no situation is the Honda MTF better
FlyinGato How long have you been running Synchromesh in the Lude? Also, have you looked at Torco MTF, might be worth a try
My lude used to grind like 10 years ago, switched to this stuff, never had another grind
This good for all Honda Manuals?
What are tire specs ? Stock suspension?
Do you have to take off the check bolt plug on the side to top it off? I’ve seen guys do it that way. Do I really need to do that?
You should, though I didn't, I just emptied it and measured out what I was putting in
So you are not going to use the check bolt? Idk bro, thanks for making the video but you should show the right way to service the csr
yea that's the better way to do it, but since I changed it every 6 months or so I got good at estimating the right levels
Doesn’t type r holds 2.3qts? Regular civic is 1.9qt but type r is 2.3
I thought it was 1.9, but I put in 2.5, a little more will hurt gas mileage, but improves heat capacity, too much more can cause issues
Yep, just want to confirm that the manual says 2.3 US qt (2.2 L) when changing the MTF on an FK8 Civic Type R
I messdd up and only ordered 2 quarts now i have to order another 🤦♂️
So exactly how much fluid does it call for. You threw out 1.9,2, 2+. Which is it?
You ONLY go 1.9. If you go up to 2 (on anything that’s not the Type R) then the transmission fluid will foam up
Did Honda improve the trans/synchros for the 2020 model?
They did not
