  • Swapping out the transmission fluid to see if it resolves some of the notchiness and improves the feel. Hopefully, this will also eliminate the occasional 4th gear lockout.
    Initial impressions: smoothed/dulled feel when entering a gate. Seems less "crunchy" when cold. Didn't "speed up" the transmission. 1st to 2nd shift is still slow requiring a brief pause in neutral.
    note: The ramps are too steep to drive up onto.
    Used in this video:
    1. Precision Instruments Torque Wrench: amzn.to/3fLaGBg
    2. Tekton Torque Wrench: amzn.to/3wwC5g0
    3. AC Delco (GM) Synchromesh Friction Modified Fluid: amzn.to/3d52CJM
    8/20/21 update: no more 4th gear lockouts! some of the "feel" has returned and doesn't feel as dulled. no grinding.

    Question brother….How much mm is the gear oil check bolt ? ( at 5:43 which you removed after levelling the gear box)………I am asking to figure out if I can use thin transparent tube and a syringe pump …through that tiny gear oil check bolt hole to refill fresh gear oil ….instead of removing air filter box and filler plug underneath air filter box…..please suggest how much thin tube should be appropriate !!?🙏🏼

    • @ez12a

      For higher torque I have a precision instruments wrench which was at one point making wrenches for snap on. The small torque wrench is just tekton from Amazon. I also have craftsman beam type wrenches.

    Nice video 🎉 why you use a oil that does not meet Honda requirements ? Does not have the viscosity required for Honda Manual transmission, for that reason most of people thing is better but it is not. Try amsoil or other better oil and you see the improvement and last much more than ad delco . 🎉

    • @ez12a
      @ez12a  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, AC Delco is of the same viscosity.

  • @brivis

    Is there any reason you couldn’t just refill by pumping up through the check port until it comes out? It would save having to remove the air box.

    • @ez12a
      @ez12a  ปีที่แล้ว

      Doable but the check port is very small. You may also need to contend with air pressure build up when pumping fluid back in if you use a threaded fitting on a hose, not sure if there's a relief valve somewhere.

    • @petawabit
      @petawabit 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I was thinking the same way. Do everything from the bottom,similar to how most hondas do trans drain and refills. I have the fluid pump already too

    I swear I read in a manual somewhere that you're supposed to replace that check level bolt and not just reinstall it?

    • @ez12a
      @ez12a  ปีที่แล้ว

      Per the service manual there's a washer you can replace. Bolt doesn't need to be replaced. Very low torque needed to tighten, so it wouldn't be an issue to reuse anyway.

  • @Fk8.Hector
    @Fk8.Hector ปีที่แล้ว

    How do you know that’s the check port ? I haven’t seen anyone else do this.

    • @ez12a
      @ez12a  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's in the service manual, anyone that doesn't do this is risking overfilling the transmission

    • @Fk8.Hector
      @Fk8.Hector ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ez12a interesting, but from my understanding when you remove all the “excessive fluid” from that check port the transmission will only hold 1.9 qt. So wouldn’t that be bad ? Given that it’s meant for 2.3Qt

    First time that I see a filler hole and a separate oil-level-check hole. Wouldn't you just be able to fill it trough the check oil like in any other car?
    Also it might be best to loosen the check hole first, so you're sure you'll be able to fill correctly before draining the old oil out. In worst case you can still put it back together and drive to a shop. :D

    • @tezzasaurusrex
      @tezzasaurusrex ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also think it would make sense to fill from check hole - but the only thing is that you'd need to have something to pump the fluid from the bottle to the check hole. So I guess the fill hole is easier to fill from for the DIYer.

    • @carolusdero6663
      @carolusdero6663 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Stories of a Mechanic yeah I used to do it with a funnel and a hose attached to it. Just route it from the top trough the check hole and you can pour it in. Now I have a manual hand pump that cost me like 20 euros which allows you to do it from the bottom (yet I still prefer to do it from the top as it's easier still).
      I was just wondering as I never knew there was a filler hole. I always thought the check hole was the filler hole. 🤣
