The only reason people hate it now is because it somehow crept into the memesphere of jokes. I have no idea how the meme cycle works to revivivy these old forgotten classics into either smash hits again (i.e. Africa by Toto) or the butt of a loathed joke (like this song), but if I ever figure it out, I may just have unlocked the power of human congregationalism.

THANK YOU, Rick for giving this song the much needed breakdown it deserves. I think in contemporary times, this song is SO world famous in music history that it can be easily riffed on, taken the piss out of, or whatever - which I always found to be so annoying. This song is GREAT. Most of us listeneners dont know WHY its great until YOU break it down for us - the drum part where Alan comes in, the dissonace, the Suss chords, Noel's writing, Liam's VOICE. Ugh. This is truly one of the best songs ever written - accoriding to their new MG25 releases they recorded this in 1-2 takes. Brilliant. Long live rock and roll. Thanks, Rick!

Both Liverpool and Manchester are both close to the Irish sea/ old port towns. The accents are nasal because of it and that comes through in the singing voice. A lot of the Mersey beat bands from the 60s had that same sound and a lot of tge 90s bands hailing from the same areas did too because they were often singing in their own accent and vernacular, so the nasal tone comes through. Noone's 'copying' anyone, they're just singing in their own natural accents.

It may seem irrelevant and I know this sounds like an almost idiotic comment but I always thought the tambourine really helped lift this track in a great way. It's brilliantly full sounding, at a great mid/high pitch which seems perfect for the song and it's been played ( or edited later ) with great feel. This was also the first track I learned to play the drums to and one of the first songs I learned on guitar so for me like many others - it has a very important place in my music past and life. Thanks again Rick!!
