If you can get your hands on some limes, zest about 6 limes and dehydrate 2 cups of sliced jalapeños. Once everything is dry, blend them together with a teaspoon of salt. This my go-to for jalapeño lime seasoning
Hello there. Hey just so you know. The hibiscus seed pods you remove are a natural pectin. I process it and use it to make my hibiscus jelly. FYI I will look for the TH-cam I follow that shows the "how to" for you. 😊❤
SPOT ON PIE. Bre I ❤ it. Who woulda thunk it😅. I just picked down all my tomatoes November 12th. A great season and the San Marzano's just did not quit. So the pie was the best option. I used large muffin tins to make mini pies. Allspice and nutmeg instead of clove and Pate Sucree pie dough.
Indeed your garden has served you well! It’s remarkable what you’ve grown and then accomplished with your harvest. You rocked the 2024 garden! Oops, I commented before the end and I wanted to thank you for sharing about drying the loofa. I grew it for the first time this year and it took so long to grow any fruit. I hadn’t been in the garden for a few weeks as I was in and out of town with my mom so my hubby was bringing in anything ready to harvest. When I went out to plant my garlic I was shocked to see 5 or 6 decent sized fruits. I harvested them and now will attempt to dry in the oven. You really are a hard worker and I appreciate what you share in your videos.
My grandmother always made Chow Chow with her end of the season green tomatoes, cabbage and peppers. It’s a delicious relish that we would eat on pinto beans and cornbread.
Hi Bre!! I'm getting my seedling room ready in my basement. I've received one round of seeds for the spring. Can't wait to clean up outside and move into the basement!! 🎉
Good tip about wearing gloves while using hot peppers. They will burn your hands for hours. Also, never visit the restroom afterward.. Don't ask me how I know. 😢 Great video!!
Oh my goodness, yes, I did that once. My nail beds burned for hours 😂. Washing did not help. Thankfully, it faded by the time I woke up the next day. Gloves are a must when doing significant processing of peppers 🌶 😊
It’s almost satisfying watching you work in that tiny kitchen. My kitchen is small too. I can’t even fit regular appliances underneath my cabinets, because they are too low. I feel at home watching you. 😅 I do dream of a bigger kitchen, but I would rather spend money on other things than a remodel.
Well...I apologize for asking my question before watching the entire video... you did a fantastic job explaining and showing us how to do the luffa...thank you
Hey Bre, I have never had much luck growing bell peppers here in Kansas. I grew giant Marconi. Omg they were awesome. Check those out for an alternative to sweet peppers
I've found laying my peeled hibiscus pieces out in a single later on a paper towel or cloth towel indoors (kitchen countertop, etc) and it air dries perfectly in just a few days to a week depending on indoor humidity levels. After another week in an open mason jar, I can feel that it's dry to the point that it won't mold. Then I close up the jars for using for tea as needed. Sometimes I burp and fan the jars every other day or so to make sure it's totally dry but probably not necessary after the first couple weeks.
So many things🤗💚 Bre - you might love fermented salsa!!! I made a big batch with end of year things - no need to peel tomatoes and you can just dip out what you need👍🏼
Thanks Bre! Any chance you can make a short when you have another green loofah that is less dense and that you can tell is easy to peel? I was hoping you’d spend time there letting us hear what it sounds like when you squeeze it and more details on just how lightweight it feels. I have a ton of loofahs like you do but I’m having a really difficult time determining if any might be easy to peel. I’m just going to grab a few that I think might be there and try it but someone said that when it’s time to peel one of the green loofah, when you squeeze it it almost sounds like Velcro Inside. Just want to say I’m blown away at how long these things take to dry out!!! This is probably a one and done crop for me! Thanks again!
We went down to the 30Fs last week, so early! Everything is mostly fine, a little damage on some annuals. I'm usually not looking forward to the garden dying for the year, but with how the drought has been, I'm tired of watering and looking forward to a rest! I've been bringing my peppers in and out for two weeks now b/c they're trying to make a few late season peppers, but it's def too cold for them to stay out overnight.
Thank you! Its from Christy Dawn! I have a discount code with them in youre ever interested! CDBRE_15 for 15% off - steward.christydawn.com/itsbreellis2
Hi Brie, are you going to do a video on the drying of the luffa? I would love to see from the sticky/gooey peeling of the green luffa through the drying... I am new to this and threw out a lot of luffa that I may have been able to save...i have about 8 left on the vine and would love to salvage them.
For the green tomatoes, why did you feel it necessary to still peel them? I don’t peel my tomatoes when doing any recipes, honestly, but I can see doing it for pizza sauce which I've never made. Just curious, that seemed like a ton of labor when you could just cook them as is.
I would think they would change the texture. Whenever I can I always remove. Theres some that don't but for safe canning I always do just for precaution
Hi Bre!! I have also delved into making hot sauce with my pepper harvest this year. Have you ever tried yucateco hot sauce from the grocery store? If you haven’t, do yourself a favor and try it!!! I can send you a copycat recipe if you’re interested, it used habaneros. My habanero plant was the most productive so I’ve been playing with those peppers the most. I’ve made the yucateco, habanero and garlic, Thai chili and garlic, and a mix of all the peppers I grew. I also got lemon jalapeños from the farmers market and used those to make a peach hot sauce 😋
One time I chopped an unknown pepper that I received in a meal kit bare handed. Turned out to me an Anaheim pepper and my hands and nose burned I KID YOU NOT for 24 hours
Its good you never get bored.

Defiantly need to try this! Thanks for sharing!!
First frost always evoke feelings of melancholy. What a lovely tale of your journey. Thank you for sharing!
It is bittersweet! I am always so sad to see the garden go dormant, but I do get so excited for the next season.
@@itsbreellis I agree, I am tired by the end of the season of growing. Zone 6. Yes, but no.
Already growing lettuce indoors

Grew luffa for the first time this year. Your tips have been so helpful! Thanks! 🤍

I tried that green tomato salsa Verde this year too. It turned out so yummy!!
I'm in NY, and we have yet to have a hard frost! It's great for my flowers 💐 ☺️
That is awesome!!!
We did the green tomato salsa Verde and loved it!!!!
Thank you for sharing! I was wondering if anyone has! I still havnt opened a jar yet, but Im excited!!

@christineb8148 Yes! I've been there and done that as well. I guess I am not smart enough to learn from my mistakes. lol
I once moved a bottle of death sauce in my fridge to get to something behind it. I had to soak my hand in a bowl of water and ice for about 5 hours.

If it feels airy when you grab it its probably easy. If it feels heavy it will be more dense!
Make several more of the pies and freeze them...I'm sure they would freeze beautifully

Do you make hibiscus tea and what part of the plant do you use?
Yes I do, I use the part called the Calyx

What a beautiful harvest! Is the hibiscus plant a roselle hibiscus? I know some gardeners turn the berries into a Roselle jam.
Yes technically! This variety is called singer but its the same from what Ive gathered!
What will you use your pepper powder for?
I use it for all kinds of seasoning day to day! Seasoned rice is a good one for a lot of them!

Did you start the hibiscus inside?
Do you make your gorgeous aprons or buy them. I would like to have them too.❤
Hi .Do you sell luffa seeds ?? I live in Puerto Rico.

I have only seen one person talk about roasting, and havnt been able to find clear information on it! But I had the same thought just never tried it.
