      Right now, I'm harvesting Celery, green beans, tomatoes, herbs, all the things in the garden are coming in, so I am preserving little by little, so I don't get overwhelmed.

      Lots of tomatoes - I’ve dehydrated some of the cherry tomatoes and today I’m cooking down a big pot full to make some sauce. I won’t be canning it, because I’m not following a recipe, so I will probably freeze it.
      I also have some summer squash still coming in, and a few cantaloupes and other squashes maturing. I got carrots
      seeded last month for fall. Sunflowers and a few ornamental corn plants are looking pretty!
      I really enjoy your videos and plan to make the salsa when my hot peppers mature. I hope you make it to 100K - your videos are so well done! 💗

    Hi Bre, I’m new to your channel (2weeks) been going through all your videos and I am hooked. I love all of them. I wanted to share a story from when I was little, my great grandmother would grow cantaloupe and she would have us pick which one we wanted to share with someone in our family, we would pick it and go into the house and she would prepare it for us and we each got a half and she would put a dip of vanilla ice cream in it and we would enjoy that sweet treat. It was so good. I’m 68 yrs young now and still enjoy doing this. Thanks for sharing your garden with us all. I really enjoy you.

    The easiest way I've found to peel tomatoes is to freeze them first. Take them out of the freezer and put them in warm water for about 30 seconds to soften the skins. Then squeeze them and the skin comes right off.

    I just replanted my watermelon seeds that out grew their little container! They grew so fast haha i just put a bunch of seeds in a thing of soil and watered them and they sprouted over night! I maybe shouldn't have put ALL THOSE SEEDS in there but i figured only a few would take but i think all of them did 😂 im so excited for those to grow!

    That salsa looks delicious! :)
    You should try giving your chickens some frozen fruit and veggies when it gets really hot out. Mine love to have a couple of frozen apples, tomatos, cob corn, etc to nosh on. It's a good way to make use of the not-so-pretty garden harvests that you'd probably be giving them anyways, but if you keep a stash in the freezer to dole out as needed, it won't be a feast or famine event for them to have home grown goodies.
    Cheers from Maine!

    Freeze drying your eggs is an excellent idea. You said you wanted to use some freeze dried eggs for holiday baking. How much egg powder equals one egg? How much liquid is needed to reconstitute one egg? Alas, I also had to take down my multi branching Chocolate sunflower. They were blooming beautifully then one morning I went out to garden and was shocked to see every flower head, even the buds, were chewed off by squirrels! I found 2 small buds on the grass with their petals spread around like a bird kill. They must be able to smell when the seeds are ripening and go crazy!

    • @ninjapiratess
      @ninjapiratess ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds more like raccoons, haha. Squirrels leave sunflowers alone usually, in the flower stage, and even when the seeds are still drying, I've never had any do that. If you grow any berries/strawberries, or tomatoes, that's where squirrels shine in being jerks. XD

    • @rvduerr2297
      @rvduerr2297 ปีที่แล้ว

      And boil the salsa…..is that a necessary process for canning?

    • @itsbreellis
      @itsbreellis  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everything I've read on this states that skinning tomatoes before canning helps remove the bacteria that can live on the skin. Canning should kill off most of the bacteria present, but its a extra precaution. Some people also prefer to not have the skin in for flavor reasons

    • @itsbreellis
      @itsbreellis  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rvduerr2297 Just depends on the recipe I'm sure. I cooked mine down to thicken

    • @Nicole-jz8yd
      @Nicole-jz8yd ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rvduerr2297boiling releases some of the water content. If you put fresh salsa in a jar without boiling the jar will come out looking pretty “empty”. There would be a lot of liquid in every jar - boiling basically allows you to fill the jar with more solids that will not change form as much after processing. Usually recipes will recommend ~10min of boiling before filling jars.
