    That's why my trunk almost knocked me out on the face! I knew when opening it that wasn't normal. Love it, something to do now and closer to fixing everything on my F10 to new status!

      Same here, my F10 almost to brandnew condition, but remember the F10 uses 2 trunk tension springs Right & Left and BOTH need to be replaced as the left spring is a bit different to the right side. Both OEM originals cost $100 total with an unbeatable Lifetime Warranty! Worth it...

    thanks for the video, i bought my spring off ebay and it wasnt a bmw original, i had problems at the rear end i.e. the ball and socket end. the socket end of the spring was slightly different to the original in that it had a small piece of spring steel on one side presumably to make it more secure and stop it popping off when in use. i found it impossible to push the spring onto the ball in situ and was going to give up but noticed that the ball was actually threaded into the bodywork of the car and was quite easy to remove. i used pipe pliers to then clamp the spring socket end and the ball together and it popped in ok, i used grease on the ball and socket and put a spare nut on the thread of the ball to protect the thread.(it would have been much easier with a vice but i dont have one at the minute) , it was then quite easy to install the spring and screw the ball end back into the body and its working fine, cheers derek

    Excellent video. I have the same problem. I've been looking to purchase the spring/shocker but they are listed as "left" or "right"
    Is this correct? Is it on both sides or just the one.
    (I'd rather get 2 if I need to and replace both but I would like to know if I do need 2. I will check on real oem later when I get the chance

  • @TebogoMotlhale
    @TebogoMotlhale 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    a BIG WARNING that SHOULD be put at the BEGINNING of this video, is the fact that if you are replacing BOTH springs (the Bigger/Longer one on the RIGHT hand side as well as the smaller/shorter one on the LEFT hand side) . . . the MOMENT BOTH springs go LOSE, you better have something over your head or SOMEONE to HOLD onto the lid !!! It will smash you so hard and injure you for dayyyyys if you FORGET the fact that ONE of hte SPRINGS is the ONLY THING holding it up there, otherwise it drops like a stone, and it is HEAVVVVY as HELL, so it will blow your skull and hurt you if you Don't support it with something at the MOMENT the LAST spring comes out, especially when you are removing and replacing BOTH springs, good luck people and always WEAR gloves in your hands (ideally wool/winter gloves and Not the thin silicon gloves) :) :)

    • @OweisAzizi
      @OweisAzizi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      just the right one if you have the same issue as in the video as only on the right side you have a shock absorber + spring (BMW Article no: 7 204 367). Left is only a spring (BMW Article no: 7 204 366).

    • @Sammmmmmmy70
      @Sammmmmmmy70 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OweisAzizi ok soo just the right one is the problem. Thats interesting how do you know that?

    • @OweisAzizi
      @OweisAzizi 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sami Wahab left is only a spring, while on the right it’s a spring plus shock absorber. If the spring would be broken the trunk would bounce, if the trunk snaps up as in the video it’s the shock absorber which needs to be replaced, therefore you need the part for the right side. I had the same and didn’t know before either

    I dont see a different between the old and the new one. And where exactly is the damper? The damper is not evident for me.

    • @UsualRepairs
      @UsualRepairs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no visible difference between the two. The damper is inside the coils of the spring and the ends of the spring attached to the dampers terminals. An old dumper looses its inside pressure with time and the effect is that the trunk does not open as it should

Or else the one you only replaced will have all the tension pressure directed to it making FAIL prematurely! Both original OEM with a LIFETIME WARRANTY cost $100 and worth it!
