Julie shines in this kind of singing. Her voices wants to do the trills, the jumps, shes wired that way. It also probably kept her voice fresh and clean as opposed to singing songs that are too low and too much of the "chest" mechanism. My two cents worth thinks too much singing down in the lower register disconnects the top and creates "holes" in the voice. Just listen to Julie's entire range here, its all connected and beautiful! If it wasnt for that Victor Victoria songs, she may have still been singing today.
