This is exactly what I needed! I've been agonizing over whether to make the jump from the CV1 to the Quest 2 and you really swung it for me. The CV1 is fine someone's first headset but I'm starting to get tired of the "fuzzyness" and hoping the Quest is an improvement. Think I'm going to put an order in! You got my sub, looking forward to more VR content!

@@Renvaar1989 I'm glad to hear this. I originally got my CV1 when it first released... got the touch controllers, and a 3rd sensor for room scale. Now I'm tired of needing to play in my small room where my PC is. I've been afraid of lowering the quality jumping to a Quest 2... but I want to be able to play Beatsaber and other games in more open rooms where it wont get as hot. Also eliminating 4 USB ports would be nice...

great video man, I already own a quest 2, got it on release, but still watched the whole video. Im loving it so far. I mainly use it for virtual desktop and PC VR gaming, I have a GTX 1080, which seemed to be perfect for the original quest, but with the quest 2's Higher resolution, Im in the need to upgrade my graphics card now lol, getting the 3080 when they get back in stock.

22:55 Ayyy nice Broly figure! Great informative video definitely gonna subscribe! Quest 2 sounds great but I'm still having a hard time deciding between this and Rift S. Wireless play sounds like a fun experience but I feel like my specs won't be strong enough currently have a cpu 3600 and gtx 1660 super. I think I might just go with the Rift S since I don''t know if I will be getting a 3080 gpu later in the future

    • @KeyJayKN
      @KeyJayKN  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Really depends on what you're trying to play via PCVR. I got pretty for with my 1080 at the time and Virtual Desktop has improved since I filmed this video. I'd say go with the Quest 2 and scale your system around it.

  • @charlesboozer7034

Great video! I'm here after the disappointing Facebook Connect 2021, which unfortunately didn't include any new VR headsets. I was ready to pull the trigger on whatever they were releasing, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.
Anyway, I'm in the same situation as you were in this video. I still have my CV1 and enjoy it, but that screen door effect is nasty. I'm trying to decide whether to upgrade or hold out for another year at this point. After 128GB Quest 2, RT-AX55, and Virtual Desktop, that's around $500. Tough choice...

I own both headsets, I prefer the Rift over my quest because of its tracking. I have been using it for so long that changing my controller weight will throw me off on my games, the Oculus quest controllers center of mass is on top of the ring unlike the rift.
I play vr in the dark and using the quest in the dark is impossible since the sensors are not the same sensors as the rift. It is like having 4 cameras on a phone on different parts of the device rather than an external webcam IR cameras.
The quest updates and not even in the beta branch, is very buggy and beta like that some people needed to factory reset their quest to use it again.
There is a reason I still use a Rift, mainly because of weight change and tracking and comfortability.
My main reason why I don't like the Quest personally is the out of the box experience, to make the quest a good VR headset you need accessories for it.
I don't care about it being wireless since the wire has never been an issue for me, I've used virtual desktop on quest and it's impressive at 150mbps 120fps but it still isn't my go to headset because of my use case.
As Mark said, "VR will become the most social network ever." Their intentions are to create VR as a social space to shop, talk, share, etc. Oculus's vision is being occluded by meta's quest to build a social network where "1 billion" people use vr headsets daily.

I had the cv1 and when the quest 1 was released I bought that and sold the CV1 when the link option was released. And when the quest 2 came out I gave my quest 1 to my brother. And it is likely I'll get rid of the quest 2 when it's predecessor arrives. The black levels on the quest 2 can be increased by lowering the brightness. The strap is annoying and with a high IPD my eyes can see the outer display on both eyes. However all that is forgiven due to the incredible resolution and lower price tag. I do regret selling my CV1, I do think plugging the headset into the GPU is a better experience than using compression via oculus link. And they should reintroduce 2 separate OLED displays to resolve the black level and IPD issues.

Recently got a Quest 2 after audio died on my CV1 (again). I can't stand Quest audio. Quest 2 default audio is just as bad as Quest 1. Maybe slightly better. Even with the deluxe audio strap mod it's not even close to CV1's audio. I'm max level in pop1 and feel like I can't even play the game anymore because the audio and tracking/latency is so bad. The sound of multiple people moving close together will get jumbled together and reloading fails half the time because I either reload too fast for the tracking to keep up, or I bump the stupid rings together. I miss the CV1 so much.

fov is not 90 and It also depends on your ipd, If you about average 64mm ipd its actually an improvement also even If that Isnt true you can just get a thin vr cover to get 10 percent more fov

    • @KeyJayKN

Adjusting to your comment for completeness, as quoted by smartglasseshub.com, "According to the previously mentioned crowd-sourced data, where people measure and share their field of view measurements for different VR headsets, the Oculus Quest 2 has a horizontal FOV of 89 degrees (+-4) and a vertical FOV of 93 degrees (+- 5.1°)
Since the fit of the Oculus Quest 2 can vary from person to person and depends on the size and shape of a person’s head, one might experience FOV degrees slightly lower or higher than others (thus the +- variation)"
They go on to say, "Another way to increase the FOV is to find ways to reduce the distance between your eyes and the screen inside. You can replace the foam padding on the kit with something that’s slimmer and sits more snugly around your face. This has the added benefit of reducing light leakage, if that’s something you’re experiencing.
Of course, the closer your eyes are to the screen, the more eye strain you’ll feel, which may also cause discomfort and motion sickness for some."

Out of the box, sure it would be nice. But if you go to 15:58, I did mention the VR Cover accessory that (through my experience) does increase the comfort level exponentially. MMV of course, but definitely worth the investment especially if this is a communal headset.
