What a beautiful room! What I love about this is that he clearly did a full room treatment without making the room look like a DIY man cave/hobby shop. It’s very tasteful and looks like a place you’d want to hang out for hours! Thanks to you both for sharing - I wish I had so many cool audiophile friends. Love you Thomas!

Thank you very much for the presentation of this fabulous audio system. Here, I think he has achieved a perfect balance, a synergy between the room and all of his audio system. This is the lesson to learn, the most perfect synergy possible between all the elements, whether it is a system not too expensive or very expensive. Listening to properly implemented electrostatic panels was a shock to me. The musical reproduction is apart, unique. They are difficult to implement well, but the sound result is then sublime !
Thank you very much to the owner of this magnificent audio system for agreeing to show this very beautiful audio system (as an ideal; for me personally) and a big thank you Thomas to you for this very beautiful report. Best regards from France.

Thomas this is simply outstanding and I agree after you get the synergy right, you must get the room right. The room is as important as the components and actually the room is a component. Thomas you mentioned music as an experience and you are right few people have EXPERIENCED music they have heard it, but an experience is different. An Experience is so emotional t6hat you feel it from head to toe and after it's over you can even clap as if you are at the concert itself, that's an experience, but the room must be treated regardless of how much you spend the room must be treated. Thank you for doing this and thank your friend for allowing you to do it. Thomas you have one of a kind friends. Hegel products are great, but like you said they are expensive.

I have treated my room in an unscientific way, but based on a lot of research. $400 for 10 1" cotton spun fabric 2x4' panels, curtains and honeycomb blinds on the windows and hanging some Zapotec wool rugs with foam behind them, and taken down glass wall art. It has made a big difference in the sound. For one thing I can play the system much louder, and hear the music better from the speakers more directly with greater detail, and without so much reflection. And I don't get as tired listening. I may tweak some more and add a few diffusers. Some good ideas and good taste here for sure. Thanks for posting.

IME, room treatment does help with speaker transparency/disappearing. I'd start by treating all first reflection points. You can find them by moving a tall mirror along the wall and noting the places where the speaker cabinets are reflected, as viewed from your listening position.
Definitely interested in a sound demo of this room.

Audiophiles all have two things in common...
    1. Their love for high quality audio / music
    2. Their love for showing off their audio equipment to other audiophiles, as a way of asserting dominance through a unique form of analog fueled posturing.
Ohhh and by the way your friends system is amazing. I love your reviews. I learn something new every time.

@@ThomasAndStereo When I was assembling my system, I poured so much of who I am into it, that it became an extension of me. Now because of this I have been fearful to experience anything new that may alter my perception...

Beautiful Quad ESLs. Transparent open wide soundstage, point source, quick transient response revealing every little thing precisely. It's a very flat response speaker with detail that is as real as it gets. It's quite bassy too but in it's own subtle way of doing it. Well done for adding a subwoofer. Two subwoofers would have been even better. I use two LD Systems 18" PA subwoofers as they're very musical and that is what they do very well as professional audio subwoofers. Although people usually don't use them big PA subs in high end audiophile systems, there's nothing better for a truly musical system in my opinion speaking for myself.

Every time when it comes to room treatment, I must laugh about my own room. My listening room is so full of stuff, that I don`t need any treatment like bass traps or diffusers at all. I have no flat surfaces, and the floor is covered with a thick nice Carpet. And, the room is so small, that I can reach the speakers with my hands from my sitting position. already... It`s like sitting in a big Headphone lol...
The only thing is, that I get a little bit jealous when I see such a nice treated and clean prepared room. And, by the way- the chosen colours of the room, the treatment, the carpet and all the stuff around the audio-system shows up that your friend has en excellent Taste! Another awesome video Thomas!
Congrats on your friend for building his own sub, most impressive. From what I am told only one of the REL subs is fast enough to do electrostatic speakers any justice.
The same thing happened to me when I was introduced to electrostatic speakers when I was younger, I still don't care to much for they types of music that they resolve the best. That said I would love to hear this system, you are very fortunate to have such awesome audio friends Thomas.

Thanks for commenting, these speaker definitely got me interested at electrostatic. Now I worry if I try other brands, it would disappoint me.

Always a valid concern, but it is part of the journey Thomas.
The best part might be all the awesome people you find along the way.
Oh have you heard of Alsyvox? They just brought their planer magnetic speakers to the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest recently, and made an impact with bass response of all things...on top of all the other positive attributes known to accompany this type of speaker. I want to hear these so bad!

Nice system. Thanks for sharing it with us.
WRT speakers disappearing, I think there are a number of factors that can make it happen. First you need a good source that images well. I have experienced it with inexpensive vintage Boston Acoustic A100's. What helped in this case was treating the drivers with the EnABL treatment. See Planet10-Hifi in BC.
My current speakers are DIY open baffle dipoles. The cones are treated. They are completely invisible. The sound stage is deep and wide. The speakers 4 feet in front of wall and the sound stage is a 3D image behind the wall. The room is in bad need of room treatment, so I don't think that is the sole reason for the disappearing speaker illusion. It can be a factor. Everything counts.

That Naim is amazing for the price ! 80 watts well watts dont mean much to me the compasitors inside are close to100k micropheretes , and the output stage transitors are not stuck onto the huge heat sink with pads lol their actually mounted flat in front of heat sink , but of corse he can use as just a pre or a amp . I almost traded my work truck for the same Naim, but i need my truck for side jobs i take on to keep my channel going :) Amazing system and room ! Ohh love the subwoofer in the middle also ! Thanks again Thomas

Thomas, your review sounds tempting...but I'd like to decide for myself what fits into my system. Let's hear the results !

awesome for the quad review ... wish i had a full incredible setup like that. you should check primacoustics maxtrap for basstrap.. special type absorbing specific bass frequencies. nothing can beat it for bass absorbtion..
