Tip 5 - Keeping it clean. So many times I've taken footage thinking its gonna be so epic, but when reviewing the footage it's really shaky or the horizon is not level. Shooting with intent and a steady hand makes such a difference. Tip 7 - Travel Light. So true what you say about less is more. Its also easier to film and pull your camera out when your set up is small and compact without multiple bits and pieces. Tip 1 - Story telling. Probable the most valuable tip, but hardest to do for me. Help!! lol
Travel light... just got back from a trip where I had a backpack and carry-on filled with camera gear, lol. 2 cameras, a GoPro, a GoPro Max, drone, gimbal, various mounts, tripods, filters, batteries and chargers. I used it all. :)
I never knew it as foley but rather sound effects. I am an amatuer moto-TH-camr with limited time but love the post production aspect. Great freaking hobby! TY for the vid thumbs up, proud of your content!
My husband and I started making travel videos, and our goal is to be informative as much as possible. Your tips and information are indeed helpful. Will apply that in our next travel vlogs!
Thanks for the sound effect list! I need to do more drone shots in my videos, but sometimes I get nervous about whipping it out. It's so loud and attracts a lot of attention!
I feel you, it can be so obnoxious, but if you find places in the mountains where it’s quiet or just off the beaten tourist track it’s always worth the shot
Glad you enjoyed it Amelia, was probably info you already know from our storytelling workshop but yes! and yes to focusing on telling better stories :)
I love making travel videos but my biggest mistake is not making a plan BEFORE going for holidays. I love being spontanous but when I put the video together I see i should made a plan. Great content! Thank you!
@@JakeRichandAnnaChah Thanks a lot! My next trip is Brazil in 3 months. I will make a solid plan this time. keep the channel growing as you got new subscriber:)
Great ideas. We have just got back from Brasil and have 200GB of footage from drone to phone footage and not sure how to structure but this has helped to have a bit of a plan
every video is incredible you do, you definitely make it look effortlessly in all you do. I think the storytelling part is what we need to get right first. thanks Jake :)
How cool, just found your channel, excellent delivery. My best tip was Micro stories brake down. Don’t try to tell your story all in one video. For me it’s just to overwhelming. Brake it down to bite pieces and then put together your story in video. Brilliant !!!
found your channel, when i was reasearching go pro settings and techniques...your videos are so so easy to understand and helpful... and todays episode is what i needed...but i dont have your personality, i think that is also a major factor...
This was such a helpful video, thanks Jake! Awesome content, you made me buy a GoPro Hero 9 so there’s no other option than to go travel. Big fan, keep up the awesomeness 😎
Great vid, last tip is spot on. I’m guilty of taking loads of gear then getting nothing. Took just a gopro last time and got loads more, and enjoyed it more too. ✌️
Great video man. I don't make travel videos, but came for the overall filmmaking/storytelling portion and you delivered big. Also, really appreciate your sound design on the little things too like the intro, the transition to overlays, etc. Keep up the super high quality work 👌🏻
Hi Jake! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and advice on your channer, I appreciate it! Could you please share your Premier output setting for youtube? Thank you!
Love all your videos very informative, I have a Go Pro 8. One thing you would suggest for video editing software that is great for beginners would be awesome..Thanks
Thanks for sharing. I see that in most of your travel films, you (and your girlfriend/friends), are almost in every shot. If I look to my travel film, see my channel, I hardly do that but shoot more of the environment. Do you think selfies add something extra to your travel films?
Selfies don't necessarily add anything special or extra if the story has nothing to do with the person holding the selfie stick. Most of my travel films are first-person stories told about my lived experiences which is why I use those shots.
Jake, love your channel! Trying to build family travel videos that captivate. I like the micro story ideas in the larger video. We recently took a week holiday to Stuttgart and visited zoo, park, porsche museum, and city bus tour, etc over 6 day period. Would you recommend breaking these up into individual day events or do you think a micro story of each day for the week is possible? (Shooting with GoPro Max, DJI mini 2 (where I can), and mobile phone.) Thanks!
Do you have a video on how to make a storyline? I don't get how walking around exploring all day could be a story with a climax, denoumount etc. I'm going to watch some of your videos and maybe that will help but it would nice to have the storyboard of a couple laid out.
Hi Penny, thanks for your question, we share our full storytelling structure along with detailed breakdown of how we use this formula for social media storytelling in our Masterclass: notjustcolour.podia.com/zero-to-hero-action-camera-masterclass
Which tip did you find most valuable?
Using a shot list to plan and manage your content followed by micro storytelling.
Good storey telling, variety of shots
For me, micro storytelling is the most valuable, then the importance of audio. ✌
Help!! lol
👋 friend i am in confusion plz tel me present which one is the best camera for you tube videos shoot for nature videos
Don't listen to anybody. If you like to make videos go out there and start. Just be YOURSELF. so simple.
Not even Jake saying this?
You always have to tell a story. The best TH-camrs find a story in everything.
Travel light... just got back from a trip where I had a backpack and carry-on filled with camera gear, lol. 2 cameras, a GoPro, a GoPro Max, drone, gimbal, various mounts, tripods, filters, batteries and chargers. I used it all. :)
Big fan of epidemicsound for foley sounds
I have a hero 9 and a max. Been working on transitions and this video will help me step up my game.
I’m still having difficulties in telling a story in my travel film but this really help. Tks for the tips bro!!
Keep experimenting, storytelling can be as simple or as intricate as you like 👌🏽

Struggle with storytelling for sure. This is all great information. Gonna need to download that shot list

Thanks so much for the advice! I will use them on my upcoming trips.
safe travels and thanks for sharing the stoke
Storytelling advice is literally the BEST advice, always. Frames rates and resolution got nothing on story. Great vid!
Glad you enjoyed it Amelia, was probably info you already know from our storytelling workshop but yes! and yes to focusing on telling better stories :)
One day I will get epidemic sound . Thanx. Another food for thought from.watching this video. Thank you so much.
