I'm here as someone posted in the Steven Wilson Facebook group that his new release 'personal shopper' reminded them of this. I hadn't heard this before. I like it. I hear Ozric Tentacles.
I'm excited that I discovered this so I have to share it. The music @1:00 is clearly inspired by the Popol Vuh track - Brьuder des Schattens from the Nosferatu album. I came across this song because the song Through Pain to Heaven is often played in Opeth's live gigs before they come on stage. Nosferatu is a pretty psychedelic album too, check it out. Cheers.
I understand and share your feeling. I have been a PT fan for a long time before becoming an Opeth fan. But it is through Opeth that I discovered and loved the music of Popol Vuh, after listening to Trough Pain to Heaven. And some time later I realized the same thing that you noticed about this song.
KoTLinho You have good taste man. Every one of those bands are amazing in their own right. I really hope the upcoming Tool album lives up to the legacy. A decent psychedelic prog album is sorely needed in this day and age.
Tom oooohh yeah man i've been waiting for that album for sooo long and i know it is gonna be great. They never failed and ceased to amaze me. Rock on man!!!
Ugh... This song is amazing and all... But the compression that has been done by the youtube player has made a great loss of quality from the album mix. I'm telling you, listening to this with great quality and speakers or headphones adds many more layers of amaze.
I about split a gut reading your comment. I came across Porcupine Tree about a month ago. And have been listening to them almost nonstop since. Steven uses electric voices from all of rock history. I am constantly recognizing that guitar sound, this Jazz or Rock keyboard sound and this "tribute" to that rock band's ditty. There are a million sounds that have been created by Rock and Jazz musicians. Plus you can add Classical voicings to work with. These are voicings, the tools, that Steven Wilson & PT masterfully uses to create works of music. I have been exploring his and Porcupine Tree's offerings like a 16 year old. I havent been this enthralled with a group in over 50 years. T'is fun to be a juvie again.
i feel ya but, i think it's because the first album was like a collection of random songs, kinda like an ode to those old prog rock bands, very experimental stuff. while this second album is structured, planned out so to speak.

Porcupine tree's tribute to Ozric Tentacles.

What a musical trip!
Saw them back in the day with the mighty Chris Maitland playing this . Live, it was incredible.

this reminds me of the original Sanctified by Nine Inch Nails
KoTLinho Definitely see the similarity. I wonder if they used the same synth soundboard.

Indeed, glad someone thinks the same.
This would make a kickass soundtrack for Mass Effect 1
I miss PT
This should have been the soundtrack for Requiem for a Dream

This sounds like the soundtrack to Metroid Prime
Oh yeah! Why didn't I think of that before? Good ear!
