You’re out there doing it ! There are no rules, no pack drill. Change your mind? Change plans. I’m always doing that. Spike Milligan said “ I don’t have plan , therefore nothing can go wrong”
Your films are a breath of fresh air in the mad world we're living in. Thank you for going to all that effort to show us the beautiful parts of Britain that we never seem to find time to go a see. Excellent.
Its easy to fall into the "Not Enough" zone. Fairplay to you for knowing how to deal with your processes. Take time out. You Barry, are a magician and an inspiration to so many people. I doth my cap to you Brother! Much Love...
Thank you so much Paul! Yes I often beat my self up, or always behind schedule, but this time I didnt know the reason for it. But plenty of adventures since and back on it!
Nearly caught up Barry LOL!!! - another great little film as always... fab to see Mam Tor right at the start too - had my worst off on the downhill after that many moons ago but happy days and memories! Keep up the great work buddy, your films and adventures are always a joy to watch!!!
When i started watching i thought "Geez Barry, you're a brave man doing that on a gravel bike!" The first bit around Hope valley and the broken road is my neck of the woods. 😀
You are the best videographer in the bikepacking realm!! You had a rough go,it's OK man, what you brought to us is awesome! Waiting for next one ol 'sod!🤣👋
Lovely work Barry. I've intended to ride this myself a couple of times but life has got in the way. Always nice to see my local trails - I had no idea the ridge along Mam Tor was on the route. I had a great bivvy up there a few years back. And when we're not feeling it, we're not feeling it. No need to force it.
I have camped many times in the peaks there, but still to do it on the summit of Mam Tor! Yes the route does not go over there, but I knew some tracks I wanted to ride :-)
Phew I thought I put my gravel bike through alot! I'm impressed by you adapting to your changing plans, it's always so hard to shift when something goes wrong
Hey Angela, yes i am very used to changing plans, I am not sure any trip and gone totally the way I had planned it, but that is what makes it an adventure no? :-)
Always great to see a new vid from you Barry, even if things didn't go to plan. And yeh, when it's time to go home, just go home. It's just for fun after all, and when you're done you're done. Hope the trip back home went smoothly. You never did do the BG Tips on how to book bikes on trains (or maybe I just missed it?), to be honest I always assume it'll be an unreliable nightmare and end up driving everywhere. Would love to hear more about your experiences in that regard. Anyway, looking forward to seeing your next adventure. As ever, thanks for taking the time to share this stuff with us.
Hey Jon! Well I have filmed quite a lot of the train BG tips, but then have never put it together, the problem is it is just very hard haha, so would be more of a rant video rather than an instructional film haha. Thanks so much for the support!!!
@@barrygodin7538 Ha, yes I suspected that might be the case. Incredible how we've ended up with such a crap service at such an exorbitant cost. Anyway, thanks for the reply and keep up the good work. Your videos are always a treat when they appear.
Fantastic video Barry as always - our last trip didn't really go to plan either but such is life - looking forward to seeing you do the badger divide another time (its on our to-do list as well!!)
Hey! Thanks very much, yes the badger divide will wait for another day, But I was so excited about it as I was a last minuet plan and also last chance not to get midged before summer.
Great video. I recently started the Great North Trail, but had to give up after four days (Covid)). I remember all the hike a bike bits and sketchy downhills so, be careful, do not underestimate the challenge.
Hey Mark! Yes it is a challenging trail, and not in a obvious way, but it showed me many new places the first time I rode it, and had me going back to many areas to explore them more
Great video - love your honestly, do it for fun even if type 2 fun but not punishment. Sometimes you don't feel it. Trail was my area, definitely suited more to mtb than gravel especially fully loaded. On to the next one, keep em coming. 👍
Thanks so much Andy! Yes I totally agree, I have done plenty of type 2 and even type 3 before, but this time just wasnt feeling it! Dont worry I have been on a few trips since and all back :-)
nice one BG, well done on that bike up there and still a good ride and content - the trail sections looked good but yep, needed the mtb to enjoy it more :) it's good that you listened to your own advice at the end!
Thank you! Yeah really enjoyed the ride in all, just wanted to ride a bit more like a lunatic haha. And yes it is not often do I listen to my own advice
I think drops subconsciously encourage you to continually crack on, do you think that route on a more usual Barry steed would have seen you over to Carlisle?
Hey! I have to say I did see you comment a few days ago and have pondered over it, I think I might of made it to Carlisle if I was on the mtb bike. For one I would of been more full of fun. I can slog away for hours on end as long as I know I will get my adrenaline shot at some point, so that would of kept me going and having fun.
Great video. I'm planning to ride the whole GNT in May on my gravel bike. I know the English section will be tough but figure the Scottish legs will be better suited to a gravel bike and the roads coming back South. What sort of distances are possible in a long day?
Hey Martin! Oh what an adventure your going to have! And yes the scotland routes are still tough but less large gravel ;-) i recon big days 70-80miles are achievable but back to back it is tougher, just take it easy and enjoy yourself
Hi That is cave dale going into Castleton. You can get there from some good loops from Hope, or it is the Lime stone way going through it. Hope that helps :-)
Great vid Barry. I believe your the same eight as me 5'8" so can I ask what size Arkose you are riding. I'm thinking about buying one but I'm in between sizes.. I ride a medium longitude.
Hey Andrew, I recommend you have a watch, i explain lots about bike choice. Gravel bikes are amazing, but that route is quite tough on it, and i love fast descents which the gravel bike did not give me
Are you saying don't ride on trails like the great north divide on a gravel bike or be prepared? Currently in Yorkshire for a bit and the paths are rockyyyyy
Haha, I am saying be prepared and hang on :-) for me I love the rush to descending and on the gravel bike felt restricted on the descents so was not having as much fun as normal. But then my normal bike is heavier and slower on the road and flatter trails, so it is all what we find the most fun :-)
Hello again... I am traveling from Canada to ride the GNT this late May/June, do you have other suggestions for 5/6 days bike packing routes departing from the Edinburgh area. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated we were thinking riding south for better weather. Cheers Lorna
Hey Lorna! Maybe go and explore Aberdeenshire and the cairngorms, I have a few films from that area, think i call it eastern Scotland, but that will give you some amazing trials and landscapes to see that do not match the GNT :-) you will have an amazing time, if you need any more help please let me know :-)
Haha, I have often thought that as I am constantly longing to go north! It was a dam good pie, and those mushy peas were a much needed vegetable that trip ;-)
Great video as always Barry, how you liking Pinnicle Arkose? I've the Arkose 2 been a great bike I have too say, look forward to seeing more videos with gravel bike 👍👍

Barry we love you .great to see you out on your bike even if it is the wrong bike . any way another great video ,
Thank you so much James!!!!
OMG!! Thanks so much for this. Wonderful editing and camera work! Now I have to go to Iceland. Breathtaking. Great stuff Barry!!
Haha, your just traveling the world from your seat :-) Thankyou so much for watching!

Great adventure barry
Thank you so much
When i started watching i thought "Geez Barry, you're a brave man doing that on a gravel bike!" The first bit around Hope valley and the broken road is my neck of the woods. 😀
Haha, or 'what a tit' I think i did push the boundary of what 'gravel' is. The bike is totally capable if you can hold on, just not at high speed :-)
Awesome video . Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much Amine
Lovely as always. That was terrible terrain for a gravel bike
Haha, yes didn't find much gravel, but the railway line I started on, I was flying!!!!
Glad you called it and got some rest before heading into the office after an awesome ride.
Yeah that was needed, I use every day off as much as i can and can burn up from it, I think this trip went the way it did due to this any way
You are the best videographer in the bikepacking realm!! You had a rough go,it's OK man, what you brought to us is awesome! Waiting for next one ol 'sod!🤣👋
What a wonderful comment, thanks so much!!! Lots of adventures on the way :-)
Another great video Barry. Scenery is amazing too.
Thanks so much Ian! I was worried this film is tooo gopro, which it is, but is does show how stunning and changing the landscape is on this trail
Scotland is so beautiful. I enjoyed the aerial views
It was England, he never went as far as Scotland.
Dont rub it in Dal ;-)
but yes Scotland is also stunning, so is England :-)
@@barrygodin7538 Aww sorry mate, didn't mean it in that way 🙄

superb video, I did miss your MTB however, like you did no doubt. What a wonderful bikepacking trail!!

Thanks so much! Yes I totally recommend riding it, and also the trails around it! some incredible riding
Brave doing that Castleton descent on skinny tyres! Hope to do this route at some point!
yes I may on not ridden all of it haha, but impressed what I did :-)

Fair play for doing a lot of that route on a gravel bike and fully loaded
Thanks so much Ross!

Brill. Often wondered what it would be like to take a massively overloaded gravel bike down Cavedale and potato alley...
Haha, have I tempted you to try it?????

Hey Calum, it is a medium arkose and was on a medium Genesis. I do run a 90mm stem on the arkose as have a short reach, but that you will work out ;-)
What month did you ride the trail? Well done, Cheers!
Hi Lorna it was in April, so rather early in the year but worked really well
The route is recommended for MTBs, how tough was it on the Gravel bike? Which would you take if you had to do it again?
Hey Andrew, I recommend you have a watch, i explain lots about bike choice. Gravel bikes are amazing, but that route is quite tough on it, and i love fast descents which the gravel bike did not give me

Genesis longitude for that trip mate .
Oh yeah! Or even my new bike :-) more to come on that sooon
Down Cavedale on a gravel bike seems a bit like making life unnecessarily hard for yourself! 😆
Haha, silly fun though :-)
