@@ryanjacobson2508Warrior paid his dues. He was just an @$$hole about it. Sting stated in Midsouth, got off the roids and Eddie Gilbert taught him how to be a wrestler.
I wrestled on the indies for 10 years in early 2000 and worked in a 20x20 ring mainly, but one promotion had a 10x10. I'm 6'2. Every move had to be corner and it was still tight. Not to mention running the ropes was just one foot in the middle of the ring before hitting the other side haha I love your channel.
I believe Goldberg meant well but WCW obviously didn’t train him long enough in the Power Plant before they pushed him on TV. Once Regal had that match that exposed Bill, WCW should’ve sent him back to the Power Plant to improve his performance as a worker. By the time Goldberg got to WWE , many people got in his ear and I think he was kinda jaded and a little arrogant. That’s why he didn’t care as much about injuring guys because people told him it was part of the job, which it is. That person didn’t follow up that statement by saying the talents can minimize the risk of injuries by working safely.
Yeah, I don't blame Goldberg as much as others because all these people should have taught him better in the first place. It's like telling an alcoholic not to drink after they were taught to drink and then a lifetime of drinking.
@@JesusFreak89 Bischoff was the main person to blame along with other veteran agents who all saw Goldberg and that he was limited in the ring. That match he had with Regal showed he couldn’t wrestle at all. If we the fans saw that, you can’t tell me Bischoff and all the others didn’t see it too. They sacrificed Goldberg’s long term potential for short term success in pushing a new star but doing so before he was actually ready.
@@freddysmith1471 I agree completely. It was on Goldberg to know his limits and try to improve. He didn’t do that. But, at the same time people in charge should have been aware of these limits and made necessary changes.
Great story of your match. Those who are able to put their ego aside enough to put others over should be appreciated more. Making someone else look good is an essential piece of the puzzle and requires real talent. It is awesome to hear that it was actually Stevie's idea for Goldberg to no-sell.
When Stevie was talking about the ropes and wires in the ring I was picturing Old School and how much easier that might have been for Taker with stiffer wires to shuffle along.
@Benforuk he looked like a superstar. I'll give you that, but if he wanted to really hurt people, he was in the wrong profession. Pro wrestling hurts enough already as is so it doesn't help prolong a person's career if you're in the ring with someone who is injuring people. There were stretches where he was hurting himself even more because he didn't know how to perform in the ring safely.
Goldberg pissed me off when I watched "Who killed WCW?". He didn't take accountability for hurting Bret or Russo. He passed the blame into them. That's shitty for a professional wrestler to say.
@@TheMattypoo21 Goldberg and Warrior would have been an interesting tag team. They'd hurt every team they wrestled and blame their opponents for the injuries.
I will say though that roughness actually translated into something in the ring. To this day, no ones spears-- not Roman, Edge, Bronn-- no one spears like Goldberg
The gore was a pretty damn good spear lol but that was in the same days as Goldberg. Also breakers spear is insane too. I agree edge and Roman’s don’t look as devastating
Those explosive hard moves is why everyone loved him. The fact that it looked like it hurts is what set him apart from other matches. An edge Sphere and a Goldberg Sphere just looked like completely different moves, and it made it believable that he could end a match so quick.

Because the period which stevie is talking about, heidenrich is very much new to business, and because of his size and roughness, he was very stiff to work with

I got nothing but respect for Stevie Richards, but I'm sorry, his take on Goldberg I don't agree with at all. Not every wrestler has the same style, and plenty of old school wrestlers worked stiff. No one that ever had a match with Chris Benoit said he wasn't stiff and rough to work with. All those Japanese wrestlers worked stiff as hell, and if you weren't ready for it, you were going to get roughed up. Guess what, some of the best wrestlers in the world are from Japan, and some of the best wrestlers in the world, worked a hell o' stiff. Old school wrestlers don't mind being stiff, and some like the Steiners preferred it. If Stevie had a problem with it, don't wrestle the guy. Richards never personally liked Goldberg, and that's why he shits on him every chance he gets.

Facts Reign did too but Goldberg was way more brutal. I remembered he speared Austin by accident instead of Mchmon. His face expression was like I’m not bullying this guy 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
He was famously the first player ever cut from the Panthers.
SD Jones would've made him eat his corn the long way
I like story time with old man Adam Cole. (Highest respect for you Stevie!)
Merry bloody Christmas guys! Recently found this channel and have been loving the content! Been a fan if Stevie since the ecw days 👍
Goldberg was fucked over by the power plant and WCW,he even admits there was never a time he wasnt green
When every match you do is only 10 seconds long it doesn't give you much time for practice.
@@theboombodyin a few early wcw matches, he displayed an extensive moveset. But once they (wcw) put him on the run (and later wwe) , it was spear and jackhammer. But anyone suggesting he only had 2 or 3 moves, did not see anything of his early stuff. Look at hogan work in japan
I've been a fan since a little kid but kinda trailed off around the PG era. I loved Attitude Era and WCW. Thanks for these videos! Very cool to get an intelligent perspective from a really well-spoken guy. Definitely had to subscribe. Thanks Stevie!

Now channel. But great content you'll the numbers go up quickly
It's a new channel.
We all criticise Goldberg for being stiff and hurting people, but praise Stan Hansen and Brusier Brody for the same.
I feel bad for the people in the ring with him, but Goldberg was a lot more exciting than the cooperative gymnastics routines I see so much today.
It's the idea that they didn't pay there dues, guys like Warrior and Goldberg. That's where a lot of the bitterness comes from.
@@ryanjacobson2508Warrior paid his dues. He was just an @$$hole about it. Him and Sting had some slow times and had to drive up and down the road in Memphis and Midsouth while not making a ton of money. Warrior quit and split for WCCW.
@@JesusFreak89 alcoholics are addicts, it's not the same .
At a certain point though it is on the wrestler to learn spatial awareness. You have to learn while you are on the job.
One day, Maven and Stevie crossover.
Hearing Stevie talk about leading the match reinforces to me how wild a skill set competent professional wrestling actually is!
Now we need the analysis of working Macho Man Randy Savage! :)
When Stevie was talking about the ropes and wires in the ring I was picturing Old School and how much easier that might have been for Taker with stiffer wires to shuffle along.
I don't think Goldberg knew that wrestling was a "work"
It's real to him godammit!
@@TrueNomadSkies 😄😄😄
I don't think many knew what a real superstar looks and feels like.
It a oh this guy can actually kill me right now....
Don't be dumb
@Benforuk he looked like a superstar. I'll give you that, but if he wanted to really hurt people, he was in the wrong profession. Pro wrestling hurts enough already as is so it doesn't help prolong a person's career if you're in the ring with someone who is injuring people. There were stretches where he was hurting himself even more because he didn't know how to perform in the ring safely.
There is an interview somewhere where he actually mentions this. He didn't for the LONGEST TIME.
i subscribed today, stevie. always a favorite.

“Goldberg is reckless, careless, and dangerous - but let me tell you how he’s easy to work with.” 😂
"From a personality standpoint."
It's like a drunk person driving a car. Fun if you ignore the imminent danger.
I like how you explain things. In a non bias way.
Goldberg pissed me off when I watched "Who killed WCW?". He didn't take accountability for hurting Bret or Russo. He passed the blame into them. That's shitty for a professional wrestler to say.
Operative word is professional. If he’s that reckless, he’s not professional.

Liking the channel so far. Digging the vibe.
Those explosive hard moves is why everyone loved him. The fact that it looked like it hurts is what set him apart from other matches. An edge Sphere and a Goldberg Sphere just looked like completely different moves, and it made it believable that he could end a match so quick.
"His body smeared across me like an oil slick of stiffness." That's wrestling poetry righ there.

Goldberg's finishers for WWE Smackdown! Here Comes the Pain
good job on both parties for making it look good
Do you think Goldberg would have been as popular if his name wasn't so easy to chant
He would've, wrestling has a soft spot for big guys like Sid vicious, Golberg, Batista, and Lesnar.
Maybe that's why Hornswaggle never got pushed to the main event.
Stevie is really interesting & insightful ... I like them videos !
Why was Heidenreich the stiffest wrestler to work?
Because the period which stevie is talking about, heidenrich is very much new to business, and because of his size and roughness, he was very stiff to work with
He was really "Green"
That's a question you should ask Michael Cole.
He got horned up in the ring
Thanks. I could t understand who he said.
Really cool video, I’d be interested in hearing what it’s like to work with other people.
💯
Golberg made a mistake of not wanting to work with Jericho at WCW. Not only would Chris have put him over even more, but I think he could have helped him with his mechanics.
Vets that actually worked with Goldberg made up his best matches! Hulk Hogan! Sting! Lex Luger! DDP! Booker T! Scott Steiner! All guys that worked with Goldberg and had his best matches with them! Also all guys that have had his back when being criticized for the Bret Shart shit!
I was a kid when Stevie was in his prime with Meanie and Raven, and I couldn't stand him cause of all the times they interfered in matches...always played such a great heel
Turns out he has incredible insight and he seems like a REALLY cool dude with great analysis of the business.

It's pretty generous of you distinguish between Goldberg the person and Goldberg the wrestler.

Very good interview.
Issue is also just how big/powerful Goldberg was so that even just a minor botch by him could really hurt the other opponent.
I remember reading batista book, he said when they had evolution vs goldberg, during break the evolution members would check on each other just to be sure they are ok, cuz goldberg was so rough

I really don’t care how good of a “worker” Goldberg was. Growing up, he was easily my favorite. He was raw animal power before Lesnar, and so explosive. He looked like a million dollars and he was believable.
"His body slid across me like an oil slick of stiffness."
P Diddy approves this statement.
In hindsight everyone hates on Goldberg but he was as over in 1998 as anybody ever.
Of course he was. He was at the top of WCW in 98.
@@sheldonleroy3963 How couldn't he 😆 Script wise he was written as a Unstoppable Force and the streak helped make him more famous at the time , Also it helped he came at the time WCW was at its highest , He was a Product of it's time , If He came around at this era I actually believe he would've been a Mid carder

I've always wondered why the first three rows were yelling. Idaho did Bill Goldberg ever wrestle Stan Hansen. I love a copy of that match💯🍺
Richards never personally liked Goldberg, and that's why he shits on him every chance he gets.
there's a difference between stiff and sloppy, and sorry to burst your bubble bucko, but I'll believe Stevie's word over a faceless Internet schlub that's never taken a bump in his life
