    A real trip down memory lane - Thanks. Did a 2yr trip around Oz over 30 years ago on my XR600 and had forgotten what it felt like. Vibrations, sound of the bike, your own shadow following, little adventures and cruising into small towns after loooong days. Spent 5 days in the Simpson navigating with a compass. Would make a good TH-cam adventure!

      @Nat Cull, sounds like an awesome trip. I can’t wait for my around Oz trip when I can afford to take time off work. It will happen though for sure.
      I reckon there are heaps of guys with epic adventures pre GoPro era that would of made for awesome footage. On the big XR600 as well. Good stuff.

    Gday mate, I’m 64 years young. I survived cancer going on 11 years now. I’m going on a solo ride to the Bourke & Wills Dig Tree near innamincka this July 8th’22. I have done adventure rides with my son too so I get how important this ride was for you. I know your dad is proud of how you’re living your life. Only a father knows a good son is better than Gold. You are just that.

    Well done! Subscribed. Love your channel. You are mostly responsible for my purchace of a used DR-Z400. Thanks. I started out wanting the DR-650 but wanted a lighter weight. Everyone talks about how tough both bikes are but you really prove that DR-Z can get it done! If it can haul your big ass across a desert it's good enough for my 180lb(81kg) ass. It rocks the way you work with what you have in that tiny garage and wrench on your own bike. Your right about if you cant fix it in your own garage you don't stand a chance in the outback. Keep those videos coming!

    Another great vid mate...inspiring many to get out there. I have the identical bike and set up. I've also done the Oddnadatta in 2001 in a Hilux, wife pregnant and two littlies onboard, even stayed in that same room at the pink roadhouse. I'd love to do it all again on the Dizzer if my knackered body will take it. I did Ballarat to Grampians last week after watching your channel, had a ball in the worst weather imaginable. @Fealy hahaha me to. Just not while it’s happening lol. I rarely swear actually but out there with when things don’t go right (which I secretly love) I can’t help but not to swear.

    Stumbled across your Simpson desert video last week and since then I’ve watched quite a few more, I like em. You got some balls at times I’ll give ya that! Reckon you’re old boy wound be proud of ya! Keep it up 👍🏼

      @Anton Zeleznik, I’m glad you like them. Mate at times I want to go a little harder and faster and have bigger balls lol. I think some old age self preservation kicks in at times, which I probably need. Thanks for watching.

      @Litzen Jacob, they hate the real cold stuff. So bring a power pack for jump starting encase you flatten your battery try to get her going. More so for when the bike gets older though. So I have found in my experience anyway.

    a cheap but effective way to make a heat shield from your exhaust is to get 2 cool drink cans and cut the ends of them off , then flatten them long ways .......... then make 2 slits either end and thread a clamp through them ......... tighten and jobs done .... if you want to make them look smart get a can of engine spray paint from auto pro ... good for 550 degrees ............ good video

    Great video and love the clarity of the video. Did the same trip on my outfit a few years ago. Couple of tips. Invest in a fly net that goes over your head. Fits in your pocket and is just about the most important gear in your kit. Second always carry summer and winter gloves no matter what the temp. There are a lot more hints but I ride sidecars so i'm cheating :)

    • @The_Apprentice_Adventurer
      @The_Apprentice_Adventurer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @3 legs, I know I know I know, I bloody went to buy a fly net and the day I left I realised i only got new head warmth gear and left the fly net at the shops. Wasn’t happy. The flies were happy though. Haha.

    Mate great video, I felt like I was sitting on the back with you. I just finished a 10,200k ride on a Harley with a mate of mine form Melb to SA, NT, QLD, NSW and back home, I know what you mean about head winds and fuel as we had a couple of close ones nearly running out with only .5 off a litre left, we took the bikes on places that a Harley probably should not have been on. Its a great country and as you said make the most of it while you can. I'm 62 and still feel like a young guy but you can defiantly feel the acks and pains. Sorry your old man couldn't have joined you. All the best.

      Mate you’d be surprised how many times I get told that. 4x4 guys switching over because it’s cheaper and Moto allows for more accessibility out on the tracks.
      My whole setup wouldn’t be more than $9000 and that includes the bike. 👍
