That is one sweet lookin' SUV. And I LOVE color!! You won't have any problems towing the trailer now. Scoobs will love her ride. Good idea on the Deadbolt lock. You made the install look SO simple. I bet your are ready to "rock-n-roll" soon now. Give Scoobers a milk bone from me.
Thanks for the video I never much liked RV locks. Heres a tip I saw on another video to secure the door. Those outside screws that hold the door on the frame can be removed in no time alllowing entry. Shoot some metal screws into the sides of the stud frame to secure the door.
Thanks much for this! Did you install the RV door handle too? And if so did you post a video on that? I saw one video that made it look hard to do. Occurs to me one could use a double sided deadbolt and just leave the key inside to lock from inside
So if one could install a deadbolt like shown in your video, then in theory one could also install a standard locking door knob correct? Love the idea of the deadbolt, but wondering if purchasing a deadbolt/doorknob set would be an effective way to get in/out with one key vs having a deadbolt key and a rv latch key
Hi Russ! I like the info you gave on this video....you make it look so easy. I think the truck suits you well, Scoobs will look great hanging out the window! Look forward to your travels!!
The expedition is sweet. You got the perfect stealth setup now. I seen a video on a different channel of a guy that had a stealth utility van like yours. The guy had put "Danger - High Voltage" signs on side of the trailer to keep curious onlookers away from it. He said he never had any security problems. lol.
@@rvertv I thought it was for the A P Products RV Trailer AP PRODUCTS Direct Replacement Door Latch Assembly. Ah, I think I need a different one. It's ok though. I dont know why I thought you were installing that
About how many hours would you say it took for this build? I'm looking at doing something similar with a 28ft trailer but the rear 16ft is going to be for my racecar to be in so it will be similar size to yours about 8x12.
wow.... actual construction hours would be 40-50.... chasing down all the materials, trips to lowes/home depot....waiting on deliveries from ordering online is what burns up some time, I completed most of this converion over a 4 week peroid... good question... thanks
Love my ford F150 w/ the triton, but I did have a HUGE surprise when it came time to put plugs in it; cost me $900.00 due to the fact that the plugs that ford put in that engine broke off when trying to remove them. Not sure if Ford has fixed that problem with better designed plugs or not.
Thanks for all the info Russ. We who are lookin to jump in need all we can get. I looked but did not see anything in your older content but what about dealing with a base address for those institutions that require one and the mail ? I think this part is the most intimidating for me. Also for security look at those tiny RIGID gang boxes at home depot, the little 32" one not the bigger one you see on jobsite. Lowes has one but not as robust. Dual locking with hidden shackles, Got one in the truck and 2 in the house. One for photo gear, the other one for other valuables. Scale shock though, 80 lbs a piece. HAVE A SAFE TRIP !!
oh, and i noted you had to really crank on the key to extend the bolt into the strike hole.. that doesn't bode well for the longevity of the deadbolt innards.. it's the bolt that will suffer.. the worst case is that it will fail when it's locked. hopefully you have another way in, like a rear door..

Scooby is a lucky girl. All the nice roadtrips and nice campers.
Love the SUV! Love the color too. I saw the key fob & thought Ford??? Looked like my old one my son totaled when he hit a deer. I loved that vehicle!
thanks

Nice SUV there, Russ. And the interior coordinates with the interior of the trailer. Like you planned it!
sure i did :-) haha
Looks good Russ, nice install of the deadbolt.
thanks
Nice SUV you did good. Now it's time to hit the road in style. Have a great time.
thanks richard
Great idea nice Clean simple install. I may do the same.
Sweet deal on the Expedition with such low miles. Friend of mine had one and I loved riding in it. You could name her RUBY. lol
Ruby would be a fun name

Great video, Thank you. Mine didn't come with that template. Do you know if I can download it somewhere?
maybe this will help make sure your door thickness is correct s7d5.scene7.com/is/content/BDHHI/drilling-template-Knob-%20Lever-%20Deadbolt

better to let the dealer service it.. then it's their problem when they break something...
Gee, your just full of surprises!! (Sneaking that new SUV on us)

you can rent "private" mailbox services that have a street address that can be used for mail and what nots
How does it work for you to date?
Happy for you looks like a great deal!
thanks janet
Really nice Russ!
You do nice work! Nice lookin SUV too. Now I hope you have Scoobie's approval :)
Temper it and all is great!
Does the little reefer in the trailer operate on both 12vdc and 120vac?
yes both AC/DC
Do you run it on 12vdc?
I have not had a chance to use it yet...soon
Ok, I'm wondering if it works as well on 12v as it does on 120.
Looks like an Airstream cargo trailer.
great SUV !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for the technically inclined, a 2-3/8" backset is standardly residential, a 2-3/4" backset is standardly commercial...
