- We hit the road in our mobile shop to fix some cars. Our own truck breaks down and we fix that too. As well as getting some customer's cars back on the road in good shape! And some diagnostics. 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭 𝐦𝐞 𝐚 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤, 𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫.

Great job with that belt replacement at the end there! It’s still running great, by the way. I’m glad I had a 15mm wrench! 😂
you and me both! haha :)
95% of the time when I would bring just the tools I thought I would need ,I would always need a tool I didn't have with me.
Exactly. Rookie mistake. Bring all your tools or none at all. Shit never goes as planned. No offense to Earnest. Apparently he just has WAY better luck then I do. I account for a shitty day and am pleasantly surprised when I have a good one. Instead of the other way around. Then again, my family's motto is "If we didn't have bad luck, we'd have no luck at all."
Been there, done that. Sux when you need a tool that you forgot or something else comes up and you need a different tool.
But how do you move a 600 pound tool box everywhere is my problem. Even a small portable box weighs 300 pounds and i have 2 tool bags to bring what i want to a job. Im considering putting a flat bed on my truck with tool boxes as walls for the bed
Seriously. "A day in the life.." are your best videos.
Shade tree at its finest.
I like all of them
As a mobil mechanic, you should fix the parasitic draw on your work truck. Look at south main auto if you need help learning how to diagnose this.
You helped me with ideas to start my Mobile mechanic channel and as war war vet that was hurt by a bomb I have PTSD and this has helped me as well.
Nothing worse than car trouble on your personal vehicle 1st thing in the morning when you are a mechanic going to repair someones car !
right?! haha just one of those days.
@@RoadsideRescue just curious, how long have you been doing this (Mobile Services)? I do mobile services in my location, have a website, Facebook and I still don't really have a client base yet. Just looking for some insight.
@@JohnSmith0956 about 3 years. I really noticed a difference when I had my truck signage put on.
@@JohnSmith0956 Set up a business on Google Maps- just googled your name and can't find you on maps, which is how i'd be looking for that kind of service. It doesn't matter that it's not your actual location, just put your phone number in :-) Good luck!
@@mikewalko536 Last I checked I was on google, but anyhow, www.manningsmobileservice.com; I am on facebook as well under the same name, "Manning's Automotive Service". Thanks for your input.
Hey bud. I’m a full time diesel mechanic. Instead of a power probe, go on amazon and check out a Autel Power Scan PS100. They are around 70 bucks and it is the exact same as a power probe.
The ps100 is now $95 on amazon. Better off with the power probe. It does more and is of better quality. I’m surprised he doesn’t have one already. It’s a must for diagnosing electrical issues.
@@rickgaine3476 i love my autel one. It is the same as the Powerprobe 3 if I’m not mistaken
@@rickgaine3476 power probe is the best?
I would a put a battery disconnect on the system to help with the battery draw
Since you know there’s a parasitic draw I would install a battery shut off switch until you narrow down what it is and just shut it off when you’re done for the day so it quits killing batteries.
Yes I wouldnt even put them on fast charge. Slow charge way better. Batteries were fried.
is there a video on how to do this?
@@Ladiesman__317 on how to install a battery cut off switch? Should be one somewhere but it’s pretty easy. It just replaces the standard terminal with one that can disconnect power
@@Ladiesman__317 search “battery shut off switch install” some videos will pop up
I did the kill switch, great. Also, excellent antitheft move.
My friend is a mechanic and his driveway is littered with projects too. My other friend who has a restoration shop behind his house is spotless.
Great to see another Day In The Life! Love these
On a dual battery setup, 1 bad battery will suck the life out of the other. I was too cheap to buy 2 batteries last year, charged then isolated and load tested them. I replaced only the bad one. Since it had the warranty, and you got them under that, good deal.
How about mounting a solar panel on the roof to keep batteries charged when not in use?
RE: Your parasitic drain: How about fitting one of those quarter turn battery isolator switches into the riser on one of those steps (and a couple of spare keys). You can remove the key when leaving for a while. Keep on keeping on - Great channel
Time to fix your own stuff! Caller...What time can you come?.....I need to fix my van first!...HaHaHa
Exactly what I thought. Semis usually have these near the cab entrance.
Excellent video thanks and you and your families be safe
I love the graphics! you are doing what I want to do. I am just leaving a cushy job because I cannot do the confined space and get to gauges to calibrate them because of an accident. I want to start a mobile small engine and equipment repair and welding biz. I have been watching Fill's vids at small engine nation as well as you vids. thank you!!
Deep cycle batteries? Nice they warranted the batteries 👍 .. costco hooked it up 😆. Another job well done .. 👏
Amazing work dude, you give mobile mechanics a good name.
Thank you very much!
Great content! I'm always learning alot from your videos.
Your child mac is so adorable :)
Thank you!! 😊
Great video
I'm also a mobile mechanic part time when I get an occasional job here and there. I'm out in Chicago and winter is brutal. Stay safe and warm. Look into getting a pair of overalls if it starts to get too cold or I use fleece lined wranglers as well. Keep up the great vids.
That power steering noise was driving me nuts lol
I owned two Taurus like this. The whining power steering pump is common. It helped a lot to change out the fluid.
Put u a master cut off and run u a constant power to keep certain things needed to keep memory etc
remove your negative battery cables and put a multi meter inline between the negative post and the cable and see the draw. then pull fuses and see when the draw goes away. whatever fuse makes the draw on the meter go away is your problem circuit.
Ka24e was my first engine teardown.. Keep up the good work
Love the mountains man keep it up
Don't buckle in right away Ernest. Get the old 6.5 runnin and warmin up for about 10 minutes.
Blower motor will work without the resistor..resistor will just bring the speeds lower..I learned that the hard way
Keep up the good work bud.
Great video. Love your content.
Ac gets in the way of turbos and robs hrspr
Belt driven centrifugal supercharger
If there's one thing I can't stand it's an empty spot in my tool kit. Because that's the one tool I'll need.
MAIL TRUCK RH DRIVE WOULD BE A GOOD ONE FOR THIS. BREAD TRUCKS ARE REALLY COOL. I CANT WAIT TO GET ONE AND WAIVE AT THE OTHER TRUCK DRIVERS LOL
GOD BLESS ALL YOU DO
Are the batteries hooked paralell or series, maybe for lights and inside accesories maybe a deep cycle would be better ?
Interstate Battery strikes again!!
Im too cheap not to use Interstate even tho their batteries only last me about a year. Good thing is after every warranty swap...warranty starts over. I paid for 1 battery like 6 years ago and its currently got 1 year left on replacement portion of warranty!!! Lol
Car #1, the Nissan with missing problem, reminds me of when back in the day there used to be a vacuum gauge that you plugged into the inlet manifold to troubleshoot various valve and cylinder issues. It came with a chart and by looking at the gauge readings you could pinpoint the problem. I do have one in my man cave. I am wondering weather they still make such a tool.
Yes they do, I have one
I work at a shop and do mobile too we take turns going on calls. The cold days are the worst lol. Can’t even think sometimes it’s so cold. And cold to hold on to the tools. I don’t have a Costco in my area but I do have Sam’s and they told me they can’t warranty any batteries that they didn’t install so I got mad and took my battery business elsewhere when they refused warranty.
bummer. Man cold tools are the worst. Its amazing how fast they can pull the heat from your hands!
@@RoadsideRescue agreed they don’t warm up very fast lol. But definitely take the heat.
Great job! i'm trying to learn on how to change my serpentine belt any tips? Great video I loved it all even at the end with you're son! It's awesome.
just get the right tools and it should be easy!
Where did u get ur test light? Good video.
Love these videos
Hey you could put a battery isolation switch on your truck like a tractor 🚜 😉
i had a burned valve and low oil pressure on my 02 pathfinder. big pain in the ass to change those motors
What do you reckon the parasitic draw is coming from? I have a 1994 mazda navajo that seems to have some parasitic draw as well. I drive it back and forth every day to work but if there is a long weekend that I dont drive it or I'm driving my other car, the battery will die. It does have a sound system in it and the power cable to the amp isnt hooked up to the positive terminal very well so im thinking that may be the problem?
Put a battery shut off switch up by seat then don’t have to worry about battery’s going dead
Earnest I like your channel in all but, in my opinion I think you need to do some research on different ways to diagnose problems.. for example the Nissan with the misfire what if it wasn’t so easy to swap tronics around and you couldn’t swap coils or plugs around..
Ernest, Have you tried figuring out what is causing the draw on the batteries? I really enjoy the day in the life videos. Where did you get the circuit tester that you used to test the heater fan? My Subaru Outback fog lights wouldn't turn off last week. I had to get a new relay switch & fuses. After I switched the relay switch the fog lights started blowing the fuse. I have it working now but I need to check the wiring & clean if needed.
Have you looked at getting a thermal insulated coveralls for the Winter?
Bryan
Hi roadside rescue, great video. If you dont mind me asking what was your profit for that day, thanks from the uk
Not sure, but could you get a cut off switch for your work truck, that could save the batteries ?
Or just fix the draw
@@justinhayward5027 What ??? Thats crazy talk 😂
I was just wondering how you could hear the belt squeaking with all the noise the power steering pump was making. 🤣
Ever think about putting a master switch on your batteries?
Or find the draw ,
I was going to comment that. I did that a car I had years ago to prevent it from being stolen
Cold but good day huh👍
Yes it was
always be prepared id rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it seems like your just an educated guesser
put a switch on your batteries to stop them draining? been there, was disconnecting my battery for months until i found my parasitic draw... when you say 62,000 miles do you not mean its been around the clock already +62k being a delivery truck?
ERNEST,ids about
The proper name of you service truck is
STEP VAN. Several mfg's make chassis for STEP VANs.
Ford, GM, Grumman. IH used to under their WORKHORSE name but
no more. The STEP VAN is REAL popular with the vanlife
crowd. There are dozens & dozens of vanlife vids about
life living & traveling in STEP VANs.
!
Hey brother. I HF grabbed a power probe 3ez for 129.00 on Amazon. Grab ya one they rock. There a god sent
i got one at AZ for 70$ I found one th next day. it was there the whole time just behind the front desk!
What's the benefit
Wow you drive fast to the jobs 😂😂😂😂😂
Stops fast too!
What do you need to do when you want to get batteries warranted in USA? They just make exchange without any questions? Do you need to proof that you bought it in this store and when you bought it?
Every retailer is different. Walmart will just scan the serial number to see of there is warranty. If no serial number and no receipt you're SOL. Walmarts with auto centers that are open will want to test the battery. In my experience without an auto center they take the customer's word. I believe Advance marries the purchase with your telephone number.
Do you have one of those Milwaukee heated hoodies? It should help when it snows. I have oil field friends that use those to keep warm during winter.
great warranty from costco
Why dont you convert that to top screw post and run dual group 31 highway truck batteries? They are not that much more than car batteries and you wont ever need all the power so they will last
I tried to change a alternator on the side of the road last week, actually it would have worked fine...
If I would not be living in Germany, some neighbor called the Police haha, it’s actually illegal to fix you car on the side of the road here🙈. I was almost done, so they sad to me I can finish it, but if they catch me again I will have to pay for it...
It’s just German nonsense lol, I love you videos, you have come far👍. Continue the great work
Remind me to never move to german lol
I'm paranoid, but the first rule of car repair is, Lower a window in case you lock the keys inside.
I have a lock out kit and i keep the keys outside of the vehicle.
@@RoadsideRescue Even at 8:11 when you exited the Nissan?
Time for a battery cut off switch on the work truck.
Buy the power probe from amazon
You're out of Utah? I live in Salina. Do you service my area?
Man hook you up a kill switch to your batteries. You can turn it off when you not driving the truck around.
How do you like the Zurich zr13?
Where are you located ? I need work on a workhorse w62 truck !
why not fix the parasitic draw? Or put a disconnect switch inline?
i just throw a charger on it... just havent gotten around to doing anything else...
Why wouldn't you put a master switch on your batteries if you know it has contuinus draw?
i just plug in a charger..
why not put a masterswitch on the battery's and turn em off at the end of the day. Pitty throwing battery's away because of some stray current.
What motor is in your box truck?
Is there a parasitic draw diagnosis video in the future?
Roadside rescue is a fun channel to watch, though a little light on the diagnostics
th-cam.com/video/eGz9BRJ09Rw/w-d-xo.html
Totally agree. Ivan (Pine Hollow Auto Diag) Eric O (S Main Auto) and Matt (Schrodinger’s Box) are the best channels out there for real diagnostics.
P Peterson I do actually pick up a tip or two from Earnest. Yeah, those three channels are tops. Add Keith and Wes
You really need to invest in a better obd bidirectional reader at this point
Im beginning to think diagnostics is not his specialty
More videos!!!
Water pump..maybe alternator
My resistor keeps blowing burns out because of the motor only has 2 settings working ?
Always replace resistor and motor together.
Did you sell your RV?
Hi Ernest, what do you use for cameras and editing?
Adobe Premiere and a gopro 7black. :)
I don't understand how if you are a mechanic you can't find the cause of the battery drain on your work truck and fix it. SMH. Would you be able to repair a customers car if the complaint was a battery drain issue ???
the cobblers daughter never has shoes.
I am trying to start a roadside assistance company. What is the best way to start getting business and get noticed? Aldo did you use Google ads?
Just post on Facebook, make a Facebook page. and make a google business profile. That's how I got started 4 years ago now I'm the number one rated mobile mechanic in my area. Don't forget business cards and a logo.
Okay thank you for the information
-30C is cold where I live .... that’s -22F for y’all Americans
Should fix that draw lol
Why not do a parasitic draw test?
Also could be a injector
Not sure how I feel about you allowing the parisitic draw to kill your batteries then warrantying them out as if they were defective. Auto Batteries do not survive their normal life if constantly depleted to far.....seems wrong...good video as usual otherwise
put a ka24de instead of the ka24e
What are you in college for?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You need to buy a battery charger
Batteries today have a 3 year shelf life .
A battery that is dead in less than there years is not a good battery. Probably It has been in stock for a long time.
What are you going to college for?
To learn to be a libtard
Costco Interstate batteries are junk. I had two bad ones. I'm done with them.
turbo?????
You have not sorted the problem the same will happen to these And the parts shop are not going to keep changing them
Do u ever come across anything you cant fix....??
My car looses all the battery too and the battery is from March!
Do a parasitic drug test on your truck. This way you will not have to keep the batteries on a charger when not being used for more than a day. Even if you just find what fuse to pull to stop the draw and finish it up later on. I personally would fix it properly. But it's not me. If you don't know how to do it. Just let me know and I can walk you through it. It's not hard to do. Also if you fix it. Batteries should last maybe 7 years or more
