+XUAN NUONG LAM The joys of a guitar solo seem to be all but lost! I was born too late to enjoy this music at the time, but thanks to my Dad, I love it!
I was lucky enough to see this combo play live back in either 87 or 88 in New Orleans. Of all the times I've seen Clapton this was hands-down the greatest show. He and Mark compliment each other amazingly. It's one of my fondest music memories.
These guys really had a lot of fun playing together. You can plainly see that on Clapton's face. Mark, Eric and the bassist all got into the keyboard riff. Loved the way they were grooving with it.
When I saw that there is a video of Clapton and Knopfler playing "Cocaine", I already knew that I was going to listen to it over and over again. I did not expect that I would do it for the keyboard solo though!
***** no need to get your knickers in a knot. people just have different tastes and preferences. that's what makes it interesting. fancy calling someone a fool just because they don't know something - that is foolish
Billbill80s excellent rant. not only is Knopfler a far more accomplish musician and player, he also has great charisma and personality. Clapton's playing gets boring real fast and is way too predictable. "What is his big song to date, Tears in heaven, for letting his kid fall out a window while he shot up heroin..." priceless.
Mark Knopfler is underrated. I think he is up there with the handful of best guitar players of all time & well Clapton....we all know he is one of the greatest :)
my dad met eric back in 1969.. he's a great down to earth guy.. easy to talk to and funny man... eric still is my dad's guitar hero and he's 71 years old now...
Well - fact is that Clapton and Knopfler have, and always have had, the deepest respect for each other. As guitar technicians, each of them could easily duplicate, note for note, the other's finest work without too much practice. Neither of them have a desire to engage in one-upmanship - that is just a fantasy in some people's heads. Aside, from that - their styles are completely different.
The singer of Creme the 60's group and sang this song popular in the 70's and 80's about his experience of using drugs like Rick James sang about maryjane.I never used drugs or partied at all my mother late mother was an drug cop san diego county supervisor 28 has been deceased now for years.
Sorry for my poor english ! To night I was listening the Blues Brothers film, and then I want to listen each songs of the performers. It is why I am visiting all those singer on you tube. I stop once more on cocain. Such a great way to magnify life. Ok ! I don't us drug, but i feel the way that some persons need be to explore differents way to reach the best of human being. Great song and if I may suggest you an other film that promote the search of the best is «All that jazz» so long folks

Credits end and tune starts at about 2:00. This is brilliance -- cannot thank you enough for promoting it here. If you were ever moved to post a version at a higher bitrate (if your source material's good enough to support that), it would be even greater.
This was just the beginning of Clapton's rise back to greatness. He's looking and sounding much healthier in this clip than he did in the early-to-mid eighties. After years of boozing and a string of mediocre albums, Eric came back strong in 1989 with the "Journeyman" CD, and he's been producing great music ever since. I saw him live in concert back in 2004, and he was on top of his game!
This is not a Clapton song. It's JJ Cale's , the most underrated guitarist/song writer ever. Influenced Knopfler and post 80's Clapton who cut covers of many JJ songs : Cocaine, After Midnight, They Call Me The Breeze,Same Old Blues Again.
In so many videos you comment this. Yes it´s a J.J. Cale song and Eric covered more songs of mister Cale. He respects the man and his music. They made an album together, he made a tribute album when he passed away. Look at crossroads guitar festival where they play together how much Eric respects J.J. Cale.
People argue about whether Clapton is truly "great" or "overrated" (as if there's nothing in between) as a guitarist. But he's seriously underrated as a singer. Great, great voice.
WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! Now that's more my style, absolutely LOVE his tone on that one, it's got some effect on it but it lets the amp breathe it's wonderfully full tone!!! Good call bro, thanks for the vid suggestion, just added it to my favorites!!!
This is Fascinating, 1988, Mark is playing his ''No can do'' riff, a song that wasn't released until 96. Refreshing that even he would play around with a riff for eight years before finding it a home. (No can do - Golden heart.)
desde españa, que recuerdos inolvidables,la musica que te hace volar al pasado ,guao, saludos a esa generacion de los 80 que escuchamos misica de la buena .
Man that groove the band is playing at the start is killer. Mark is killing that feel big time :) Love it
Wow, you're a youtube veteran. Love your channel, man!
That will transform into a lovely song called No can do from Knopfler's amazing 1996 record Golden Heart
Man, that's a tasty lick Knopler is playing through the intro.
Eric Blair sounds a bit like "a song for sonny liston"
+Eric Blair did he play "wolf whistle" when the ladies were introduce? :)
+deepfieldspace It's actually "No can do" :)
+Eric Blair me suena a No can do
Jorge Camilo jiktfeber
I love it, this song never died, and so does the music by Eric Clapton & Mark Knopfler.
+XUAN NUONG LAM The joys of a guitar solo seem to be all but lost! I was born too late to enjoy this music at the time, but thanks to my Dad, I love it!
Written by JJ Cale, but agree! He recently passed away and Eric made a tribute album with Mark featured.
XUAN NUONG LAM
There really are no words to describe the enormity of Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler sharing a Stage 🎸🎸
1:50 Mark Knopfler can whistle to girls with the guitar.
TRue!!!! hahahah that's sooo great!
No egos competeing. Just two GREATS having a good time playing together 🎸🎸❤
Cookin' with grease!!
If you people like the intro, look up "no can do" by Mark Knopfler, its on the album "golden heart".
I was listening to the Golden Heart the other day and was like "oh that's cool that 'Cocaine' song is on here!" then realised it wasn't.
Call me the breeze............ The perfect Song!
I was lucky enough to see this combo play live back in either 87 or 88 in New Orleans. Of all the times I've seen Clapton this was hands-down the greatest show. He and Mark compliment each other amazingly. It's one of my fondest music memories.

My two favorite guitarists playing together, simply perfect.
2 of the best
It does not matter if Clapton is better or Knopfler is better. They are both entities in the guitar pantheon. Together...it is simply amazing.
These guys really had a lot of fun playing together. You can plainly see that on Clapton's face. Mark, Eric and the bassist all got into the keyboard riff. Loved the way they were grooving with it.
the little riff of the band with knofler in the presentation of clapton was epic
LOGAN PARKER It's from his song No Can Do :)
patrik streng thanks
Glad I could help
Mission accomplished my friend
They call me the breeze
When I saw that there is a video of Clapton and Knopfler playing "Cocaine", I already knew that I was going to listen to it over and over again. I did not expect that I would do it for the keyboard solo though!
Nathan East on bass....one of the very best.
he's a legend
True
Great show1❤eroc for ever❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love how mark knopfler is playing the intro for 'No Can Do' one of his own songs doing the intro :D
This number just sends chills down your spine!
Knopfler is owning it from the start.
well said dude
I think Knopfler wins just by being the least 80s.
***** no need to get your knickers in a knot. people just have different tastes and preferences. that's what makes it interesting. fancy calling someone a fool just because they don't know something - that is foolish

***** I think your post needs more lol's
This is awesome! Clapton, and Knopfler are both amazing guitarists.
Énorme version !!!
Two Masters... Slowhand and Mark Knopler
No one can play Knophler off the stage, but he can play with anyone.
Simply the most powerful guitar player on earth. His soul streams to his fingers. Amazing.
Yeah Mark is great.
Eric Clapton is alright too.
My all time best guitarist
Mark Knopfler is underrated. I think he is up there with the handful of best guitar players of all time & well Clapton....we all know he is one of the greatest :)
OK, before someone wants to correct me & say, "Clapton is not 1 of the greatest, he IS the greatest." Well........I agree he probably is !
As Eric might say, don't be silly... there's Robert Johnson, T-Bone Walker and Guitar Slim just for starters.
Guys, have you ever heard about Joe satriani?
Jo si
Francisca prats soler No tots entenen el catalá aquí(bueno, jo sí, però, la majoría parla anglés)

Two of the greatest guitarists together on the same stage. It doesn't get better than this.
How about the keyboard playing of Alan Clarke
Buenos tiempos.

Classic !! Awesome !
You're right, my friend. The Knopfler/Clapton world is an amazing one.
i honestly give it a 10..
People can like whatever they want to like, and many likes both Rock and Hip Hop.
And... Classick rock will never die!!
im 63 years old love the sound but hey i love all music bring it on
There is no one to compare to the late, great, beautifully unassuming genius that was J.J. Cale. Miss you J.J.....
7:02 , east and knopfler grooving in sync! epic!

That intro riff by Mark..
So much effortless talent, all bases well and truly covered. Wonderful.

Didn't Clapton also do an album with Cale? I seem to remember one. But, it might just have been an album of mostly Cale songs.
They cut only one album together just before JJ Cale died. The Road to Escondido.
Thanks. Thought that they had, but, couldn't remember for sure. Let alone remember what the title was.
Clapton in Tokyo 1985

In the beginning mark plays the riff from his solo song "no can do", which was released 1996, 8 years later!

That god damn voice. Holy shit
People argue about whether Clapton is truly "great" or "overrated" (as if there's nothing in between) as a guitarist. But he's seriously underrated as a singer. Great, great voice.
People that think he is overrated are just jealous, and yes he is underrated as a singer.
This mussic gives me chills!! Grew up listening to this. THE REST IS IN THE BOOK !!😉
Even if you are so far away, you are inside me...good night my love
They're both awesome in their own style and together they make magic !

Remember! Never do coke! Only Pepsi!
***** But if you have ice, then you need something to put it in. Pot for example. And I don't mean marijuana.
But you need a girl to have that with, say Molly?
and I don't mean ecstasy.

Kim Pallett Buen comentario amigo.
Kim Pallett apparently the musicians that make the music.
Right, but sometimes both together could be a really nice coke-tail ;)
Shared on Google...brilliant performance by clapton and knopfler :-)
Good song STFU about cocaine. The song rocks!

he has a receding chin
