@ ajwysopal That's right. I should've realized you don't expect to still be competing for the Big-12 championship toward the end of the season or beyond, in the CFP. There is a conference championship game, you know that, right? The Utes will be in it.
Utah did not respect Arizona plain and simple. I guarantee you if this was Alabama or any top five team they would kick the field goals. They tried to cheat and get to the bye week with Isaac Wilson instead of telling Cam Rising to put a band aid on his ouchy and going out to play. What a total fail from the coaching staff.
To me it’s really simple.. Arizona did their homework. Wilson is clearly only being given some of the offensive packages… which makes him less dynamic and an easier task for defenses to handle. Kudos to Arizona for doing their job. I have been to every home game this season and it’s a night and day difference when Cam is under center. I know that we will win the big12 if cam and the team stay healthy… but at some point I have to question the strength and conditioning team + nutritionists.. because the amount of injuries we have had in the last year and a half is not normal.
If anybody is making Cam's situation a distraction, it's the fans, the ones complaining, acting like spoiled children. I get the frustration for sure. At this point, it's like the kid laying on the ground throwing a tantrum in the grocery store. Yes, ice cream would be great, but mom said no. Be mature and deal with your emotions, quit being a distraction.
Of course, if Cam plays in this Arizona game, there's no guarantee that Utah wins as their issues involved more than offense. However, Cam being in there healthy might change the game plan and play-calling.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if someone within the Utah football program, staff, administration, etc. inquired as to WHY the coolers that Cam Rising was thrown into during the Baylor game were so close to the sidelines? Almost always, those coolers will be back by, adjacent to, the benches or, even BEHIND the benches. Should hv never been located where they were!
@wmb1977ify I use work in the Utah AD goofball! My questions are relevant and pertinent to Cam's injury and any potential future injuries. Former Boise St/Washington HC Chris Peterson brought-up similar questions afterwards. Glad you're not overseeing the logistics of the sidelines otherwise, you'd probably hv the team benches, training and medical staff carts and equipment all near the sidelines🤣Your juvenile comment only reveals your narrow and limited perspective on the matter. Because of my job, I had to understand the various RULES that applied to the areas that the passes were eligible for and applied to. I think the Rising fan frustration comes from framing. If week after week Cam is medically cleared but is a game time decision it gives the impression that he is good to go but then last second on multiple occasions he’s not able/willing to go. Last year it was a game time decision week after week. It just gives off a bad vibe the way they present his availability. I’m fine tho. If Cam plays great, if not expect the worst, hope for the best.
Utah fan, I like your coach but can't stand the smugness of the fan. It was wonderful to see the Wildcats lay the smackdown on Saturday. That's 2 in a row. Don't take the cats lightly.
They shouldn't have. But Isaac Wilson is no Arch Manning. With Rising, you have to deal with the fact he probably isn't that motivated to play in the NFL anymore, doesn't want to live with a disability for the rest of his life and another 2 weeks off (5 total) could ensure the Utes are playing their best football at the end of the season. Watch out, kitties!
Cam Rising reminds me of the mythical John Frum, the diety of the Cargo Cults in the South Pacific. No one can remember the days when he was among us and used his powers to benefit the people, but the day will come when he returns and showers true believers with all things that are good. Just keep waiting. . .
It was coach Whittingham who chose to start the freshman QB, Wilson. Cam has been cleared to play for the last two games. It's obvious that coach Whitt has a new shiny toy in Isaac Wilson. So much so, that he's actually obsessed with his new toy and selected him twice in games that Rising should have started. Rising might be at 95%, but his 95% is still better than Wilson's 100%. In the two seasons that Rising has started, he's won two conference championships. Rising is a winner. This is his last year. It's shameful to see coach Whitt not select him. You could see the frustration on Cam's face at the beginning of the game with AZ, that he wasn't selected to start. I blame coach Whittingham for that loss. He needs to just retire already and let coach Scally take over. There's no reason that we should have lost that game, and Rising of all people knows it.
Sorry! For me, Cam put himself back into this situation against Baylor with his ridiculous decision to hold onto the ball, not throw the ball away immediately out-of-bounds- or even slide- and, allow the defenders to close in on him and throw him into the coolers/table etc. His decision-making after last year's injury should hv undergone a complete overhaul with regard to: 1) his obvious importance to the team, 2) his potential susceptibility to another injury/re-injury if put in a compromising situation on the field. Now, it's obvious that Cam can't control certain things on the field, like a blindsided sack or a tackle on a goal line play but, those situations, like the one with Baylor, where he could have thrown the ball away to live another down and not play the hero on a "meaningless" down, are the situations that he should have thought long and hard about the last year. Almost as if he learned nothing and now the team is back in a somewhat similar situation. Like the guys alluded to, it's become an unnecessary distraction potentially within the team and we have to watch Cam, with the almost permanent anticipatory grin on his face, waiting on the sidelines for ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY to play again coming off of a preventable injury! This has been more than frustrating as a Utah fan, especially with the potential this team had coming into the season!
A lot of this is on Ludwig. Ludwig is terrible. He does not know how to adjust or mix things up. Why did they go away from the run? Why do the always go up the middle instead of sending our speedster around the edge once in a while? Ludwig is stale and predictable. He squandered a good opportunity to score before the half if he used a 2 minute offense, which he seem to not know how to do.
You're partly right and partly wrong. Ludwig is a good play caller, but he does have trouble with using Isaac Wilson. The freshman's a pretty good open field passer, but Ludwig still doesn't have enough confidence in him to mix it up well. Especially in the red zone. That was a joke against Arizona. You can't send every single player to the line and not expect the corners and the safeties to come up and stop the well telegraphed, obvious run! When Wilson is in, he has to come up with short plays (rollouts, screens, passes to the flats, etc.) that keep the defense honest, while still protecting Wilson from himself and his demonstrated ability to throw interceptions. With Rising in, someone with experience, running and scrambling ability, on field panache, versatility and strong will to win and make plays happen, Ludwig isn't limited by the lack of skills and experience of his QB so he calls a good game. The problem is, he still has to call a variety of plays to catch the defense off guard even when Wilson is in and much of the time, he hasn't been able to do that.
