- Enjoy an inside look into the motorcycles of the Best In The Desert Series as these male and female dirt bike teams prepare to tackle an unforgiving and punishing Vegas to Reno, 550 mile 11 hour course. Along with bike setup u info these fearless riders offer desert riding tips for this Baja 1000 style race featuring a wide array of bikes, including two strokes and four strokes with a heavy dose of Honda CRFs, KTMs and Husqvarna. We are asking you if you would ever try this and if you would, what bike would you use and why?

Id definitely start with barstow to vegas or similar... i have done a half dozen 100 mile races but never 500+
Would use my XR650R, or a husaberg 650, 570 or yz450fx if I could afford them

Must have missed you at tech! 096 solo ride 12hrs 51 min to do the 505 miles. Hard crash slowed me down at mile 230 but pushed through and pulled a second place ironman. This race will test your bike and your mind even more. Most dont complete because the mental aspect
Yes I would love to do this. Bike I would love to use yzf 450 hor crf 450 maybe a xr 650 for nostalgia

The mechanic is Gilbert Grieve, the best in Reno & one of my closest friends.. He was a Winning Desert Racer for years & now he is teaching the next Generation.. Amazing Team, Great People.. Desert Racers are Amazing. .
I wana try this by myself in a few years. Then if it goes well I wana do the baja 1000 iron man
I would TOTALLY solo this race. Back a few years ago I used to ride my cr500 enduro 3 hours South to Pueblo motorsports park then ride the sand for 6-8 hours, then ride home.

It's about 150mi there 150 back and this park is like 20mi by 20 mi so a lot of time spent there and you rarely find the same spot twice. They have a website and event tracker if you'd like to check it out. Just Google Pueblo motorsports park international.

Hoping to make it out there in 2021 to attempt it solo! I've got lots of research ahead of me to pick out what bike to build for it.
i did the first vegas to Reno in 1996 on an open pro class husky 610 4 stroke blew the motor just before the cottontail ranch gas check the race was tough but the getting from gas check to gas check with the pit rigs was almost worst
as a matter of fact just the other day i found my jacket and t shirt from that race

@@cycledrag god no nothing that hi tech route maps and roll charts and the course was flagged pretty well also if i remember right. it was pretty amazing to us dummies from alberta to be involved and actually do pretty good right up until my friend crashed his brains out and blew the motor, ty davis and greg zitterkopf won in 8 hours and 30 minutes or so on a kx 500. it was mind blowing to watch them going across the dry lakes at well over 110 mph
@@timryerson6733 those older husky 610s didn't have an oil pump they were a cagiva 4 stroke top end mated to a 2 stroke bottom end if I remember correctly
Would I try yes, what bike dunno yet I wanna do Baja 1k so I would 1st do this race because if I can’t do this then there’s no way I can do Baja 1k

Yessir, would love too. About to pick up a 250xcf for the hare scrambles at my next duty station, and I’d run this solo on a 450xcf. We’ve always run ktm’s and I just want to stick with em

My team raced the 2019 v2r!!! Bike #370 open am! We ran 3rd most of day even got into 2nd at one point .....after starting 7th in class .....
We finished 6th in class after our 4th rider blew pit 13 rider change and ran it to the finish where he crashed 5 miles from finish line. He learned the hard way that the last 25 miles is the most dangerous!!!! He is ok though!!! A couple less teeth and 14 stitches but hes all good. It did back an hour but he got the bike across the finish. Proud of our team . I will be back next year !!!! BOOOYAH

I would use the Honda CRF 450 with feine tune suspension and Michelin stare cross 5 tires, if I couldn't find anyone else to do it with me I'd attempt it solo
