Thank you, Kay, for explaining the ladders and the tension, because it does look far too loose at the beginning. As I am trying to get myself back into knitting, especially with socks, I have been struggling with over tightening those stitches after the needle changes, which really does compound the problem, just as you said! I have been far too stressed over every little imperfection, and I realized that I just need to relax and trust the process. You would think that I had never made a sock before! 🙄🤣 I have been my own worst enemy! I would have continued stressing myself and continuing with this problem, had you not explained it this way!
I have been a magic loop knitter for many years… bought a set of flexi flips just for kicks….and because I am addicted to “new techniques”. The addies are not sharp enough…so just ordered the Hiya Hiya….. your tutorial is fabulous… picked up a few great tips ❤❤❤. Will be watching more of your videos soon.
Thank you for this tutorial for knitting an entire sock on flexi-flips. I’ve knit only a couple pairs of socks, all on flexi-flips, but always got confused on how to arrange the stitches across the needles during the different sections of the socks. Your instructions were great, easy to understand, and the video quality was excellent! Thank you!!
SO helpful; I’ve been struggling with trying to get to grips with everything to do with socks, and starting from zero knowledge of socks at all, with the HiyaHiya Flyers; I know how to do magic loop, and love it; I’m allergic to dpns except for making iCords! And watching classes where they use dpns and say, ‘oh, it’s easy, you can do this in magic loop if you want to’ doesn’t help if you haven’t already knitted dozens of pairs of socks. So your video has been a life saver; I’ve finished my first very small sample/learning-curve sock entirely thanks to you. A few mistakes, but not many. The real art of teaching is to put yourself in the shoes (or socks…) of someone who knows nothing; so few people really do that. You do, and I’m eternally grateful.
Thanks for a very good and easy tutorial 😊 it’s my first sock and have looked everywere on the internet without finding anything. Greatings from Denmark 🇩🇰🇩🇰
The best explanation I have seen, and I have been looking for a year I have been knitting for 60 years, and have never had the courage to try socks. I can hardly wait until tomorrow to start!😊
Jump right in. I'm the same, have knitted for over 50 years and just knit my first pair of socks in November and my second pair in December. I'm hooked!!
I use 3 chiaogoo 9" circular needles instead of hiya hiya flyers. They aren't as pokey, plenty of room for gusset increases, not as fiddly as other methods. I prefer this way over 9" circulars because I'm a tight knitter and get a real spiral going with them.
all the same sizes 3 9inch chiagoo needles ..instead of the high high flyes ..you just made my day today my friend ....i am going to try it .......and you just do it the same way she is doing it ? ty from my heart you made my day today ...happy knitting ..YOU ARE THE BEST
@@stephanieboshnack6100 I hope this works for you. The red cord on the chiaogoo 9 inch is really sturdy, gives a nice stability to the feel of the needles. Happy knitting!
Thanks so much for this tutorial. This is my first attempt at socks with the Flexi-flips. Really like them but also wasn't certain how to distribute the stitches once I finished the heel turn. Thanks to search feature on TH-cam I finally found this tutorial for cuff down on Flexi-flips.
So very excited. I have my square flexi flips ready and everything else you said to have. Waited a long time for this tutorial so could not be happier. Love the nails.
This is embarrassing but I've been knitting for 11 years and never knew how to count rows by looking at my knitting. I always have used the tally marks you mentioned. Being able to look at my knitting and know which row I'm on will help make it more portable, so thank you so much! I also ordered a pair of Hiya Hiya flyers and can't wait to give them a spin :)
I love knitting with my Addi FlexiFlips I like to have different options to knit socks thanks to you for showing us all Thank you again so much for for sharing 💞
I'm so happy I found this! Hubby bought me the complete set of Addi flexi flips and I have been trying to figure them out! I can't wait to try these . Thank you for this tutorial!
I have the Red Lace Shorties set by ChiaGoo and I got extra needle tips and the 2” cords so when I want to try my hand at doing Flexi-Flips or Flexible Flyers, I am prepared. Work out great on top down socks, heel flap - it’s managed! The longer tube part of the sock I often do on 9” circulars if it’s all stockinette, if its a texture or cable of lace, the 8” trio of needles is the way to go or Magic Loop, easier to manipulate a lot of transitions of knit to purl or cables.
I've just bought a set of flyers to try after watching videos of you and others knitting with them. I'm a DPN knitter, but I only use 4 needles mostly because that's what sets I have but also it's a tad easier than knitting with 5. I've put the front stitches on a circular to hold when I'm knitting the heel and sometimes forget to move stitches back to my DPNs this also has encouraged me to give the flyers a go. I agree with what you said it's great to have options 😉💜
I'd love to try these needles! They look more comfortable, and more like a knitting tool than the stiff dp needles. Plus, DP needles look more like murder weapons lol
Thanks for this tutorial. I've been waiting for it so I can try my Addie FlexiFlips. Just watched the cast on and how you knit the cuff so I'm off to try it out!
I cast on with twisted rib at midnight. Kind of fiddly but I’m starting to like them - I’ll know when I do the heel. Thanks for the video - wish I’d waited for it. I love magic loop but it’s fun to explore new ways.
I am currently trying the Hiya Hiya flyers on some toe up socks and I love them. I also have the Addi Flexiflips but I don't like them nearly as much. For me, I like the sharpness of the Hiya Hiyas
Have my yarn caked up and my flyers at the ready to case on to try this new set of needles. Thank you for another awesome tutorial for Summer Cock Camp 2021!
Terrific tutorial video. I will try this with Addi flex needles I receive for Christmas. I have yet to complete a sock. I get confused on the gusset, when to SSK. You have clarified that for me. Thank you thank you!! I’m excited to try. I will also look for your tutorial for sock on a magic loop. I love magic loop knitting. Your instruction was terrific.

You may be able to knit cozy tube socks using a round loom. They come in different sizes. I’ve had success helping a family member with hemiplegia to use the looms.
Thank you for the tutorial. Now I understand how to pick up the second side of the gusset with Flyers. Seems I was hung up on using needle #2 to pick it up because I'm used to 2 circs. I'll give my Flyers another try!
Oh yay 😀 I have so been waiting for this tutorial. I know flexible DPNs aren’t your jam but they seem to be mine. Thank you so much for putting this together. Happy first day of camp 🏕
I ordered a few in different sizes and have used these. I really like them. Thank you for all the tips! It is definitely different from dpns and magic loop, but still another very good style. Nicely done video too...clear, good pace!
Your video is so full of information. I have always stressed when knitting socks. You make it look so user friendly. I am trying to teach myself Continental Knitting and would like to know is this a good project to learn Continental Knitting? Looking forward to your next tutorial. Will be purchasing some new needles.
I bought the 2” cables for my chiagoo mini needle tips that will create a similar type needle. I’m pretty sure they came in a set of 3. You can use the 2” tips or 3” tips or one on each side I guess. I think I’ll try this as I’ve never really used them before.
Hi Kay! Your tutorials are always so helpful and this one is no exception, I will knit my next socks using these needles and process. I have started my scrappy blanket and was hoping you would do a video showing how you add a new square to a square just finished. I have 12 completed squares and already dreading putting squares together ( what a task). Also what method would you suggest for sewing finished square together? Thank You! Dawn
Hey Dawn, the pattern I follow for my Cozy Memories you attach them as you go. I have any notes in my Ravelry project page for it and the link for the pattern I use is in there too.
This is the best sock pattern and video using flexi-fllips. I am a new sock knitter who gets discouraged very easily. I have made a few mistakes but am determined to keep going. My concerns right now are I have one more stitch on one needle than the other and what I have done so far doesn't resemble knitting in the round! I also don't know how to count the 20 rows/rounds before I do the leg. Do I count a row after I do both the front and back or count a row after I do the front and then count again after I do the back? I'm going to stick with it! Besides, I hate the Magic Loop! Thanks for this video.
This is a fab tutorial! I purchased some Addi’s when they first came out and watched a different tutorial but the way they held the needles didn’t work for me! I’m a big magic looper and continental knitter and I think your video is a game changer!! Gonna cast on tonight!
I think I figured out why they’re called “flyers” 😂 Every time I change needles I twist&push my new needle back and the end does a little propellor motion! I have the 5” ones (I use them for baby socks), do the longer ones do that?!
I have a hard time getting the stitch to pull through when picking up the gusset side "v's". Any suggestions? You make it look so simple. Btw, your videos and instructions are amazing.

My red lace tips are a little less pointy than the sharps.

I have just finished knitting your socks on DPN’s - can I use the same pattern to knit on the flexi flips. If not, where can I find the pattern. Thanks.
Like I mention in the tutorial, I suggest using the magic loop pattern. Happy knitting.
Do you ever use 3 of these needles to hold your stitches (as in dpn’s) and use a 4th needle to stitch with?
You'd have to buy another set. There are 3 needles per set. At 25 bucks or more, it isn't cost effective.
Why would you choose this method over regular 9" needles or the magic loop? Thanks!
It’s just personal preference. Some prefer one over the other.
Can you do the hole sock with 9 inch circular and nothing else
Are they more difficult to work with than DPNs or 9 in circs? I'm very interested in trying them but at $25+ a pair for the addi's, I want to know what I'm getting myself into. 😂
If you have a fat calf, do cast on more stitches and then decrease before the heel turn?
Great question

So, are you still using these, or have you gone back to another system?
I’m working on my first pair of socks (toe up) and I’m using flexiflips. I’m getting such bad laddering, what can I do?
Try pulling the 2nd stitches on the needles tighter.

Hi. I appreciate the video but you had me a little confused. You kept saying you're supposed to have x number of stitches on needle two but there were two needles on the back that had stitches. Which one was needle two?
Need 1 is the front of the sock. Needle 2 is the back of the sock.

What's the size of needle ???
I go over all needle sizes in the video, and they are listed below the video and in the written pattern as well

The flyers come in only one length.
