I know this is an old video, it goes back to the CM days, but I love these small projects. Johnny's voice over is great, and sponsors love it, but it would be nice to see Johnny do a video like this once and a while again, simply showing the art side of wood working. Beautiful piece, and great video
Finally! ha ha. I'm sorry you had such a hard time before, but it seems like this blade on the bandsaw made a big difference. I think you could have made the knob out of plywood (purebond) and it would have tied in the theme really well.
+Bruce A. Ulrich thanks Bruce! Yea I just found the knob at a hardware store locally and thought it matched the look, but a plywood know would have been cool.
I am sorry but I would have to give this guy the thumbs down , in fact his lucky to have any thumbs with his total disregard for safety on that table saw , god it made me cringe with horror on how close his fingers were to the blade just at the very start of the vid you can see this. Hopefully his skill will not come to nasty end , but what about all those folk watching that thinking its OK !!!! Len
Surprised by some of the comments below. Your project turned out great, the music is fine. People should stop being so picky about free content, and just be happy you took the time to let them watch you make something nice. For the haters out there that wish they had all of these tools, maybe just calm down. I sold most of my power tools a few years ago and I make projects very much like this using hand tools alone. I just finished a cedar pop-pop tug boat for my son using a bandsaw box type construction, and I only wish I had the technical skills to create a video out of it like this one. Any woodworker worth his/her salt, should stop whining about what equipment another guy uses and adapt their technique with the tools they have. And don't make the mistake of criticizing other workers for selecting different tools/methods than your own, as long as they are being safe and responsible, who cares. But I would recommend thinking twice about opening the video with those less than ideal safety precautions, especially when your push blocks are sitting right in the foreground while you run your hands over, and then next to, a moving blade. Probably not helpful for beginners who don't know any better, or don't understand that not all saws have a riving knife etc. That said, you did a great job with the video, keep it up!
Nice! Wood you reccommend sanding the outside of the actual drawer/insert? On the one hand, it'll look and feel a lot nicer if you sand it, but if you don't sand it, its a much cleaner fit. Maybe some light handsanding, so you don't take too much off? Or is a belt sander fine?
Beautiful job! Nice and neat workspace, not like the mess I make when I work. Foolish question, what kind and size blade on that bandsaw? I have the same saw (most likely a laguna 12/14), and no matter how I adjust the blade my cuts come out looking like wavy potato chips. I think I'm going to try a thinner blade and more tension. Also, do you have the blade touch those guide blocks? When I tighten the guide up it's impossible to leave a hair between. It's either touching or 1/8 inch away which is no good. Thanks if u reply but great job. Really. Subscribed!
+samlol23 thanks a lot! The blade type you should use is outlined in the Bandsaw Box book, I think it was a ⅜" skip tooth blade. It's amazing how much of a difference the right blade makes! Usually the blocks are slightly touching the blade, but not so much to cause too much friction.
Makes me want to make one too. But I will change one thing about the design. I think that the little round drawer pull is underwhelming. I'll either make an elongated horizontal pull, or make a finger hole along the upper edge of the drawer.
Nice job. For those of you who thinks the equipment used would be $30,000 you evidently never saw a real equipped shop. Not to say these are not nice tool. I don’t know what brand the table saw, the jointer, and the bandsaw are. The sanders can be bought at Home Depot. Palm sander and oscillating sander combined about $250 $300.you can get a ridged table saw for about $400 $500.a god saw for a home shop. I’ve owned a few over the years, mostly for onsite work.jointers are priced from A to Z. Same for bandsaws. I got a 8 inch jointer used for $500. Delta long bed. New $1800. Bandsaw for this type of small work $300 to $500. Used sometimes $100. Glue brush $2.00 Incra jig , pricy. Incredibly well made, very accurate. Don’t really need one for this type of job but sure nice to have. Bessie clamps, best made in my opinion. I believe those were about $40.00 each.. chop saw, auto z. These are basic tools to have in a home or garage shop. I could build a house full of furniture with these tools. My point to all this is it’s not $30.000. It is a well equipped small shop and he did great work for a simple box with these. Always ways to build without every tool in the store. That being said , who doesn’t want every tool in the store. I have been a furniture maker for 51years and I pretty much have every tool in the store and then some.i started with a skill saw, router, a few clamps and a palm sander, and a couple of drills and bits. If you like woodworking and want to do what this guy does buy the basics and there is no end to how much you can spend..
Nice job , i don't care for david or his work i get this feeling of Christopher shwarts where its mostly all talk and bigging up their skills kinda thing ... I like your box and the video was relaxing .
Nice video, except for two things: that REALLY irritating 4 bars of music repeated endlessly, and the fact that you pushed your hand right by the saw blade at the 0'25 - 0'30" mark. No push stick? But that music - ARRGGHH. As a musician myself, that 4-bar phrase was agonisingly worse than being stuck in an elevator listening to elevator music. I realise it was probably from one of the royalty-free libraries, but man oh man - couldn't you find something that went longer than 4 bars and that had a bit of something to it?
Oh don't get me wrong - I enjoy ambient music. I play a lot of it myself. But this is just a 4-bar phrase, repeated endlessly - like having somebody say "Hello, how are you?" 150 times in succession. There are much better ambient royalty-free tracks out there. Or better still, find a local musician who will lay down a track for you for nothing but the exposure. It's not the 4-bar phrase itself that's the problem - it's the fact that it's the same 4 bars repeated a bazillion times. Extremely boring, and to anyone with a musical ear, it's the equivalent of fingernails down a blackboard, or a fork pushed across a plate. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the woodworking part of the video - thanks for doing it :)
There y'go. You're a musician too, so this is the chance to combine the music with the woodworking - perfect :) Will look forward to the results. Syncopated Sawcuts - new name for the channel? ;)
Hah, I've just chosen to invest money into my shop instead of other expensive hobbies. I'm lucky enough to receive free or discounted tools from time to time as well, due to the promotional value these videos provide. That definitely helps.
I like the video too much . Its really difficult for me to be happy for anyone else because of my low self esteem so i guess all i have is to hate you because you have nice things . Jeeeeeez
and after all that i come away zero tips on how to build a band saw box...but I do know how to hum along to a two chord song and watch a wide variety of awesome tools being used.
good stuff man! just subbed ya. I don't know how often you subscribe to other channels but I would love to have you aboard mine looking forward to seeing what you do and what you have done

Heck yeah, flock it!
I don't know what's more impressive, your woodworking skills or the cinematography.
Thanks!
Thanks Ludwig! Was trying a new style for this video with my new camera, glad you noticed :)
+Crafted Magazine What's the new cam?
I've been thinking of finally making my first vid.
Thanks
Ludwig Barnes I'm using a Panasonic G7 with a 25mm 1.7 lens. amzn.to/2aemhaa
Love the pace of the video, hypnotizing to watch this little box come to life.
Thanks man, I need to do more of these no-voiceover videos.
Looks good dude!
Thanks man, couldn't have done it without your book!
Awesome! Glad you were able to successfully make one! Looks great!
Thanks!
Magnifique travail

This project is wonderful, who would give it a thumbs down?

Great idea!
Good job. I line mine with felt. You can even get decorator designs on it.
That's cool, I might have to give that a shot!
So good! Glad it worked this time! What blade did you say you ended up getting?
Thanks! 3/16", 4 TPI, skip tooth blade from Highland Woodworking
Amazing piece of work bro. Love it. My next big tool investment will be a bandsaw.
Thanks man. Definitely one of the more versatile power tools in the shop. I know a lot of hand tool only guys still keep a bandsaw in the shop.
Very nice result!!
Thanks man!
Enjoying this style video. Very beautiful. And nice box too!
+red12287 thanks!
I really love the design! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks man!

Very nice, I think you got it figured out.
Thanks Lyle!
Really nice work!!
Thanks Tami!
Awesome, after so many tries.
+Making Stuff 👍
Beautiful box mate
Looking to make something like this for my daughter for a jewellery box, thanks for the inspiration
Cheers
Tim from wood 4 nothing
Glad you enjoyed, thanks Tim!
Nice! What kind of wood did you use for that? I first thought it was birch plywood!
The plywood was leftover scraps of Purebond. Thanks!
@@craftedworkshop ...Huh, I've never heard of Purebond before hearing about it at the start of your video.
Good job. Any idea what the black powder is?
It’s flocking powder, there’s a link in the video description.
very nice build!!!
+Marla White thanks Marla!
Beautiful!
Thanks!
that came out awesome dude!
Thanks man! Took me enough tries, hah.
+Crafted Magazine I think it's ok as long as you learned from it, at least that's what I tell myself lol.
+Matt Lane hah I definitely learned from it... Learned I don't want to build another bandsaw box anytime soon. 😂
What is the powder? I have never seen powder like that applied to a finish.
great build! much love!!
Thanks Matt!
This came out awesome!! So did you do a victory dance after completing the box. Great job glad you didn't give up on bandsaw boxes.
+Thom spillane thanks Thom! More like a sigh of relief, hah!
Beautiful box!
Thanks!
Great job, especially for a first time.
Thanks Deb!
What was the black stuff you put inside it? I've never seen that method or whatever it was before, looked interesting.
Sean Freeman it's called flocking! I describe it more in the build article here: craftedworkshop.com/bandsaw-box-build-video/
Very nice...where did you get the template?
Thanks! The template was from the New Bandsaw Box book : amzn.to/2onOZcV
Crafted Workshop thanks! Looks like a good book
+Mike Levant it's great!
Nice!

I definitely sanded it. I wouldn’t go crazy but flocking the inside of the box will add back some material to improve the fit.
Crafted Workshop thanks!
Nice projects. What is the width of your band saw blade? 1/4 inch or 1/8 inch?
Thanks! I believe it was ¼”.
Crafted Workshop thanks. Got me subscribed. 👍👍
Nice, welcome!
Nice job! What kind of plywood are you using with no voids in it?
Beautiful job! Nice and neat workspace, not like the mess I make when I work.
Foolish question, what kind and size blade on that bandsaw? I have the same saw (most likely a laguna 12/14), and no matter how I adjust the blade my cuts come out looking like wavy potato chips. What bandsaw blade are you using? Those cuts look really clean.
3/16", 4 TPI, skip tooth blade from Highland Woodworking. The cuts were very smooth, the blade made all the difference.
what kind of band saw do you use in the video?
+Andrew Cross it's a Laguna 14|12. There's a link in the video description if you want to learn more.
Good work, presentation and music.
It is possible to give me the link for all the clamps Bessey you used in this project ?
Costas from Patra Greece.
What is that thing black u used inside the 📦?
+alawe as it's called flocking, there's a link in the video description.
awesome ...man u r blesses with talent....but why did U put that black thing??
+lavie laav thanks!
Black stuff is called "flocking." It's similar to the felt inside jewelry boxes. Used for aesthetics and functionality but not necessary.
+C Martin yup.
nice job..
Thanks!
Makes me want to make one too. But I will change one thing about the design. I think that the little round drawer pull is underwhelming. I'll either make an elongated horizontal pull, or make a finger hole along the upper edge of the drawer.
Sure thing, make it how you like it! That’s the beauty of making stuff.
Wondering what brand and model bandsaw that is?
The bandsaw I used in this video is the Laguna 1412, available here: amzn.to/2fkqNYJ
What was the width of the blade?
One of the most relaxing videos I've watched in a long time! Great job!
Thanks!
Are you using a 3/16" blade for this?
+James Marshall I believe so. That info is in the blog post linked to in the video description.
Try 3/32
When cutting the inside the box in circle design type cut,,,I get a choppy or rough edge..how can I make a smoother surface cut.
I would try another blade, that is likely your issue!
What's that material you put inside de box?
+gabriel b it's called flocking.
What is the purpose of the black powder
It creates a felt-like texture on the inside of the drawers. Just gives it a nice look and feel.

+Ashley King glad you liked the box and video, Ashley. I dig David's stuff (and Christopher's), different strokes for different folks!
@2:55 WILLIE!
I like you kept the video to a minimum of essential steps. The hole in the plywood did bug me a little, should have filled it.
Thanks!
Willie!
Gotta love him!

You have an extremely well equipped shop there, ie. Sawstop table saw. You must have some big bucks.
Hah, I've just chosen to invest money into my shop instead of other expensive hobbies. I'm lucky enough to receive free or discounted tools from time to time as well, due to the promotional value these videos provide. That definitely helps.

I use them every day, I just keep them clean!
I like the video too much . Its really difficult for me to be happy for anyone else because of my low self esteem so i guess all i have is to hate you because you have nice things . Jeeeeeez
Nice video of the building process. But why do most TH-camrs feel that annoying music played over and over is preferred by the listeners?
dimensions?
This design is from The Bandsaw Box book by David Picciuto, he has templates available.
and after all that i come away zero tips on how to build a band saw box...but I do know how to hum along to a two chord song and watch a wide variety of awesome tools being used.
You were shown the steps in succession. What else do you need?
♡♡♡♡
+An Đỗ Trần thanks!

Done! Thanks for the support man.
Crafted Workshop always! & Awesome thanks bro..
HOW TO MAKE A BANDSAW BOX using a bandsaw, table saw, chop saw, router, router table and a workshop the size of Belgium. Gone at 30 seconds ...
Well you don't need all the tools, He's just using them to make it easier, but much of the process can be done by hand sanding.
Just to beperfect!
Maybe instead of that music explain what your doing.
Use your eyes. you can see it.
I MUST KNOW THE NAME OF THIS SONG ITS AMAZING!
More ads than a bad cable tv show
Ruined it with the interior.
Showing me how to do something when you have a $30K shop is of NO use to me.
+Larry B you could build something like this with a much simpler shop. Really, a bandsaw and a sander is about all you'd need.
Angry bird aren’t you?
