    Are you using a pesado portafilter in the Gaggia?

  • @crodlu98
    @crodlu98 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is there a disadvantage to using a bottomless porta? I have the non modded Gaggia. I’ve been removing the drip tray and putting a paper towel under the blow off so I could fit the scale in there. I have a bottomless porta filter so if it’s not hurting anything I’ll switch if I want to use a scale . I’m fairly new to espresso.

    • @justinstraver24
      @justinstraver24 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I guess the downside of a bottomless portafilter is that it can get a bit messier due to spray. Also, you can't split a double espresso directly over two cups with bottomless. However, it will help you to see if there are any defects. For example, bad puck prep, channeling or too high pressure. Additionally, I find a bottomless easier to clean. But as you have them both I would just try them both and see what works best for you. Although a bottomless gives more clearance I upgraded to a slim drip tray and a Timemore nano scale, so everything nicely fits underneath the Gaggia.

    • @setherd
      @setherd 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are lower profile drip trays out there, made to fit a scale in. FYI

    • @gregspektor7423
      @gregspektor7423 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I put a tall skinny shot glass under the purge tube when I’m using the Gaggia without the drip tray. I’ll probably get the low profile drip tray at some point but for now the shot glass works well to keep the mess contained.

      I have not tried but I would think as many as you want it will heat up fast so the time you prepare your next puck it would be ready. I really do like the form factor of the Gaggia and in USA the Profitec go is $950. It is cheaper with a modded Gaggia with PID. But I do not have personal experience with the Profitec Go. I think the Profitect is a better build Quality. I sold the white Gaggia because I decided to do the Gaggiuino. That said the Gaggiuino is by far more capable as it has flow and pressure profiling and you can repeat consistently and change your profile to mimic any type of shot. So I really am getting great results with it and I'm coming from a Decent Espresso Machine which says a lot.

      @@decentcoffeeeveryday Yes indeed, it says a lot! I’m glad to hear this because I finally decided on making my purchase of a Gaggia unit, a Classic Evo Pro, cherry red, with the pressure at 9 bar from the factory. I want to build myself a Gaggiuino for sure, but I’ll try to live with the unit "as is" for a while, I know there’s tricks to keep the heat up and stable (like purge the system just before pulling the shot so it recycles itself, etc). Here in Canada, the price has gone from $650 to $800 in the last couple of days, so when I saw a distributor still offering their machines at $650 (and there was literally just 2 units left!), I pulled the trigger, at 3 am, in the living room, in my underwear, like all impulse buys should be done... lol Thanks for the great content! Pierre, from Montreal 🇨🇦👍

      Decent much more refined and easy to use and change parameters. Gaggiuino can pull similar shots but decent is just better in every way. I still have my decent its for sale.@@i_Lndr

    Have you noticed how the temperature doesn't change from 100.9c during brewing?...But only after switching off the brew switch?. You probably had a total swing of 10c from the set temperature. The Gaggiuino firmware average the temperature, pressure and flow which does not show the real and accurate readings on the display.

    • @Ron-tr2wr
      @Ron-tr2wr ปีที่แล้ว

      The same happen with my Gaggiuino, I attached an external thermometer to the boiler and the Gaggiuino readying was the same as the thermometer but we I started to brew the Gaggiuino temperature was off.

    • @VSparxxx
      @VSparxxx ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah your deduction here is utter bs, pls do better in the future.
      Longer explanation:
      The screen temperature shows the "target shot temperature" and during a shot the system does everything it needs to achieve(or try to since it depends on how high is the flow) the wanted temperature, there's loads of stuff going on with a gaggia boiler that the software is just working on overcoming, not easy to understand when you're getting your ideas from nowhere rather than working on such machines to understand the ins and outs.

    • @Ron-tr2wr
      @Ron-tr2wr ปีที่แล้ว

      @@VSparxxx What kind of stuff is going on with the Gaggia boiler? The boiler is just a block of aluminum with two heaters. Based on your theory, the software was off by 3c from the target temperature during the brewing. 100.9c during the brewing process and jumped to 104c immediately after switching the brew switch.

    • @VSparxxx
      @VSparxxx ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ron-tr2wr It's small and needs proper handling in order for the newly incoming water during a shot to be brought up to heat during a shot, this is why Gaggiuino software is bumping up the heat during the shot itself, it's an option in the software called Brew Delta, which takes into account the freshly incoming water based on the flow value and heats up the boiler accordingly to compensate for the temp loss that would happen otherwise.

    The espresso has lost all it's creme in the mean time and looks very watery.
    And the screen is so miniaturistic.
    From a technical point of view very interesting indeed.
    What about the practical value?

    • @decentcoffeeeveryday
      @decentcoffeeeveryday  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can get a bigger screen. I opted to get the 2.4in screen because it fit more cleanly on top away from any heat or water unlike the front mounted screen. It is easy to use to do any function small screen does not bother me one bit. I do think this provides a lot as far as function as you can basically pressure and flow profile any type of espresso shot. Like the decent machine just more budget. The Gaggiuino also allows you to be consistent. Unlike having to do it manually it will always be slightly different.
