I just bought a new Baby Rock and I realize after owning every kind of 1911 even 10mm, that the Baby Rock is more practical to carry even though it weighs more that other plastic guns. I'm 6'4" and 230 lbs. and the Baby Rock is perfect for me. Putting .380 rounds down range is a piece of cake. .380 is just a dwarfed 9mm and still packs a punch. And people wonder why .380 is more expensive than 9mm.........hmmmmmmm Happy Carrying!
Good review , and luckily you got one that works. The one I bought is a little chunk of crap. Sent it back to RIA got back the same chunk of crap. Front sight fell off , rear sight slides side to side , can't get through a single mag without failures , spent cases come out dented in 2 spots. Even the proof cases that came with it are dented. Gun should never have left the factory. Should have known better when the manual says it needs a 500 round break in. I now carry a Kimber micro 9 , awesome little gun that never fails. So for the price of a baby rock and break in ammo I have a gun with better power , more accurate and functioned perfectly right out of the box.
Nice review AL, thanks. RIA had to replace my Baby Rock due to slide stop notch peening after only 300 rounds. Fedex delivered it today as a matter of fact. Turn around was about 3 weeks. The first mod I did to my original BR was to cut the rear sight notch slightly deeper so the front sight was easier to pick up, made a huge difference. It also had a POI about 3" high at 10 yards so I machined a taller front sight and added a fiber optic rod. It was as accurate as any of my full size 1911's and just as much fun at the range. Now I have to start over with the new one and hope the slide stop doesn't beat up the slide again. If all goes good I'll be carrying it like you do.
Looking to buy one this month seen a lot good reviews on it. Love the size of the baby rock. Like you said 380 will do the job just need good shot placement. That's what's all about.
Just got one and it seems like a nice pistol. Put DuraGrips on and changed out the slotted screws for Allen Head 6-40 x 1/4"...would love to find night sights for it, but will probably be painting the front blade and rear sight to be able to get target aquasition quickly.
Early April 2019, After watching countless videos between the Llama & the Baby Rock, I went with the Llama. After all, both are about the same $$$, but the Llama offers 2 mags & a fiber optic front sight, I was sold! Got the gun Thursday, 4-4-19, went shooting it on Friday, 4-5-19, sent it to American Arsenal (factory repair facility) on Monday 4-8-19. Long story short, the thumb safety literately fell off around 60 rounds into my day. After being at the reapair facility for several weeks, and no apparent resolution for this problem, I went to the Eagle Imports website and sent them a note inquiring as to what was happening with my repair. I was contacted by their representitive, and as it turns out, Llama has some issues with the safety falling off and other more serious problems. According to them, its possible a resolution will be coming around September of 2019. 7-15-19, I again wrote to Eagle Imports asking for a status update, this is what they replied with: "We are still on target for late August early September {2019} for delivery of the replacement firearms. We have been in contact with factory on a regular basis. Hoping to have the test samples here soon" 8/16/19: I wrote and heard from the folks at Eagle, at that time they stated : "We are still hoping to see something soon. Samples should be arriving soon for testing. Then replacement would arrive soon after." 8/21/19: I asked how the replacement would be distributed back to folks like myself (recall that I sent mine in to repair back in April, it will NEVER be returned), the answer was "The replacements will go to American Arsenal and Armory first then to your dealer. We have some samples coming next week so hopefully these test perfectly." 9/5/19: I asked how the testing came out, and inquired about the delivery time line... to date, no answer back. It is 9/11/19, 18 years since the attack, and I have just heard back from the fine folks at Eagle Imports. As you may recall, the week of August 26th 2019, the "test samples" were supposed to arrive and be tested. I inquired a week later (9/5/19) as to how that testing went... here is the answer I received today... drum roll please... "Good Morning, We have not heard good or bad....so I am taking that as a good sign? Hopefully, we will hearing something soon. Thank you for your patience." As Sonny & Cher famously said... "and the beat goes on..." 9/18/19: I wrote back to Eagle Imports: I am hoping that you have heard something regarding the test samples by now, can you share anything on how that went? Hopefully, everyone is getting closer to determining the delivery time line, can you share anything on that time line yet? Good Afternoon: We still are waiting for the report and findings. I do apologize for the delay. Hopefully, we will hear something early next week. We at Eagle do appreciate your patience during this period of time. 9/26/19: I again wrote to Eagle Imports, "Can you share anything on how the test samples fared?" and the response was: "What I have been told is next week we will be receiving guns from the factory to for the exchanges. Please allow shipping, receiving and delivery time to American Arsenal and Armory. We here at Eagle appreciate your patience during this time. Thank you" 10/11/19: Yesterday, I received a UPS package with the replacement pistol in it. I will be taking it out and putting quite a few rounds through it this evening or tomorrow morning. I will report back with my results and hopefully be able to close out this saga with a positive note.
