  • Part 2 of a "Bonsai" from Amazon, that i bought in the spring of 2020. This video shows its fierst year in the garden, where it was pretty much left to grow after a hard pruning.

    Really can see the shape taking form - seems to have thickened up since you first got it. Looking forward to the air layering video - something I'm hoping to do as well, but haven't built up the nerve yet.

      Cheers Sue, yeah i think it is thicker. the branches i grew out certainly have.

    Huge improvement over the messy branches from the starter tree.
    I guess in a few more years you'll be closer to where you want it.

    Would it be possible for you to grow this as a root over rock seeing how you have a split base? You have some quite long and thickish roots which could be used to grip a piece of stone and the stone could be placed in the "Y". Just a thought.

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have thought about it, but its not the look I want. I think the gap in the Y is kind of tight and the two legs are kind of thick, so it would be hard to find the right stone, but i think it could be possible.

    i still maintain that CEs are the single best species for bonsai because they survive pretty much everything except severe drought (I only went and killed one this summer while I was away because the watering line was blocked)
    Yours will do great with a layer in spring. will you do it in the current pot as a ground layer? its the easiest option...

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ah Dave thats a nightmare! but yeah, id say you are right. if it was a "you can only have species" this would up there for sure, probably top of the list.
      (and yea i will keep it in this pot and basically ground layer it)

    You know technically after you air layer it depending where you do it you'll end up with 2-3 trees

    What’s an air layer?

    • @BackGardenBonsai
      @BackGardenBonsai  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      its basically when you force the tree to produce roots somewhere on the tree, so like half way up the trunk. or on a branch ... so its sort of looks like they are growing into the air. ..once there is roots, you can cut that section off and just plant it up like a new tree
