    Bear in mind that most beginners buy trees like Chinese elm from nurseries that are planted in the wrong substrate and have terrible root systems like I did when I first started. It’s no wonder they struggle, so don’t be too hard on yourself as a beginner. You’ll discover in time how to better care for your tree and make it stronger. I hope one day beginners will have access to better material like they do in Japan for example.

      As with population increase, education, and awareness, more prople will develop a habit to the art, and with demand comes supply. Your absolutely right, you can't expect to do everything perfect on your first try!

    Some more specific info:
    -coniferous trees shoul be replanted with absolutely minimal disturbance to the soil. The roots need their symbiotic fungi for nutrient uptake.
    -reconsider your watering habits as well as the placement in your garden
    -use a led light on a timer in winter, trees need light to produce the necessary compounds to grow new foilage, roots and to close wounds
    -mist the trees with insecticide, weak trees are an easy target for sap-sucking pests
    -put them in direct sunlight and cover them with a transparent enclosure that holds in moisture, but only when the tree shows signs of recovery. you dont want to encourage harmful fungi growth.

    Thank you so much for sharing this video. We are in extreme winter (-29°) in Toronto. I just noticed today that one of my gardenia is dying! Its leaves are getting softened. Little confused, I have misted water and add root buster, and hopping any positive results!

    • @bonsaiempire
      @bonsaiempire  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I assume your gardenia isnt outside? Ideal temperatures for this species are between 16° C and 23° C / 60° F and 75° F and not below 15° C / 59° F in winter. If the windows are opened for ventilation in winter, take care that the Gardenia tree is not exposed to cold draught: www.bonsaiempire.com/tree-species/gardenia

    I have a chinese elm that I know is healthy because it's getting new shoots. But one branch is losing a lot of leaves. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with my wiring. Do I just let the leaves fall and let new leaves grow? Should I actively pick off dying/dead leaves to help the tree along?

    • @bonsaiempire
      @bonsaiempire  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No need to remove the leaves - and yes the wiring is likely the reason the branch is not doing well. Perhaps it cracked somewhere while bending? This is sometimes hard to see. Anyway, all you can do is wait and see.

    Can you keep an outdoor bonsai indoors with full spectrum LED lighting? I’m new to the world of Bonsai and my wife just bought me a juniper, and we don’t have great outdoor space. Thanks for any info.

    • @bonsaiempire
      @bonsaiempire  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope. Its the change in temperatures, light intensity and winter dormancy - things that are super hard to imitate indoors. Junipers need to be kept outdoors.

    I was gifted a Satsuki azalea. Knowing nothing about this species, I kept it indoors next to a window and it was thriving. However it got an aphid infestation so I had to move it outdoors because it did not want aphids spreading to my other plants. We have had an abnormally hot summer (90-100 degrees Fahrenheit most days) so the satsuki dried out and 95% of the leaves dried to a crisp. I moved it to a mostly shaded area and temps have cooled to about 80 degrees now, but it is still drying out despite me watering it well. I have no idea what to do with my little azalea, any help would be appreciated!

      @bonsaiempire  20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Im afraid you already killed it, if it dries out completely only once your tree is dead within days. The only thing you can do now is take proper care for it and water it correctly - and hope for the best!

    What if it's a fifty year old bonsai that you've inherited, lets say an acer, the top/trained used to be wired branches all appear dead, yet the lower branches are still producing shoots, what would you do ?

    • @bonsaiempire
      @bonsaiempire  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, you'll have to work with whats left and redesign your bonsai.

    A lot of bonsai is saving dying trees. Attempting to revive any tree regardless of the condition is a worthwhile cause.

    One of the best method I've found to revive a dying bonsai is to do some partial defoliation & wrap the tree with plastic cover & keep it in indirect sunlight. If scratching the bark is green then it CAN be saved!
