Who did the Edomites worship?

  • The Edomites make frequent appearances in the Bible. They lived in what is now Israel and Jordan and were often enemies of the ancient Israelites. In the Bible, though, the Edomites aren't explicitly condemned by the prophets for their idolatry. So who did the Edomites worship? We know it was a deity named Qos or Qaws, but we don't know much about this figure. We know that the Hasmoneans converted Idumea to Judaism but in the Iron Age they worshipped a deity by the name of Qos/Qaws. Could it have been an Edomite name for Yahweh? Let's dig in.

Well, Job, from the Book of Job, actually was the Duke Jobab from the land of Uz (he was the son of Reguel, the son of Esau).
So he was an Edomite, as well as his friends Eliphaz, Bildad and Zofar were.
They lived in the time when the Israelites were in Egypt, even a long time before Moses.
So it seems that, at least the early Edomites, still worshiped the God
of Israel, or at least some of them.

Some actually say Job was a bit older a contemporary of Abraham.
Others say that Job invaded Egypt with Arphaxad and possibly Shem/Eber and put down the Egyptian Misraim child sacrifice and Nimrod adjacent pagan Idolatry and built the Great Pyramid thru forced labor of the pagan priests and population as a prophetic monument.
They started the Mixed Part Shemite line of Pharoahs with blonde and red haired princesses.
The Egyptian priests told the Greeks two thousand years later that the temples were neglected.
They found the Melchizedek Arphaxad blood sacrifice temple in Israel just now... It is built for giant humans over 8 feet tall.

Esau did not find repentance Heb 12:17. Tears were not over his sins but out of negative consequences. This was prophesied while the babies were in the womb. Israel and Edom/Esau wer brothers but Esau had murder in his heart. Yes they made up but it was only through Jacob/Israel's humility that it occurred they still separated. Isn't it completely irrelevant which deities with which names was the No.1 in their pantheon of gods - and where the name JHWH ultimately comes from? It should be clear that God didn't give himself a special name, and that he was always one and the same from eternity, despite different religious cults/names of God.
From which related tribes/nomadic clans the Israelites descended can never be finally clarified, especially since almost all peoples of the Orient, Asia Minor and the Levant to Lower Egypt/Nile Delta have been migrating back and forth for around 6000 years+, very similar cultures and civilizations including mythologies produced.
Not unlike a little later in Europe or Far Asia. If it's just a matter of finding out who first "invented" monotheism, when and where, that won't be able to be completely clarified either. There is also something like a religious "evolution", without the ancient civilizations and their mythologies/religions the emergence of the YHWH cult/belief would have been unthinkable. Judaism didn't suddenly "fall out of the sky" either; one has to understand it more as a "dialectical" process; Thesis (creation myth/gods/cult) -antithesis ("underworlds", demonology, "Satan", magical incantations/occultism etc.) -synthesis (monotheism in OT, NT and Koran, spiritual "turning point").

Edom worshiped Yahweh which is a symbolic name for Baal. The name given to Moses was I Am/Ahayah. Yahweh was inserted into the scriptures after many translations. If you look in the Strongs Concordance at the root Hebrew translation of God, you find Hayah. That’s His name, Ahayah Ashar Ahayah, I AM THAT AM. Read Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
