  • Cycle lanes are designed to keep cyclists safe in their own lane, some road users also think they should be able to use them to avoid waiting in a queue of traffic.
Here we see a few drivers move into a cycle lane crossing a solid white line in the process.
The fine for using a cycle lane is 3 penalty points and £100 fine, local councils can also issue £70 fixed penalty notices.

It’s the same in Litherland by Ford Cemetery where a bus lane goes to a left turn only lane and there is a specific place to enter the bus lane to turn left but most people don’t and enter over the solid white line to avoid the queue to go straight on! It’s even marked clearly on the road as to when to enter the bus lane to turn left but they still cross the solid white line to avoid the queue

Let's be honest, the cycle lane shouldn't be there... Or, at least that wide. Catering to cyclists is all good and well but let's not pretend the lanes get half the use they were built for. Manchester is the same. Big cycle lanes everywhere but I can drive 200 miles around the city and spot three people on bikes if I am lucky. Gotta love the tax wasting though...
But on that note and rant aside, anyone breaking a solid white marker into any cycle lane should be a fine and repeat offenders should be points and a fine.

Cycle lanes are usually empty because people have reached their destinations instead of being stuck in traffic. I cycle 14 miles across Manchester daily and this sort of infrastructure is extremely helpful and protects me from being killed.

@@MancAlB Your common sense and eyes should be what protect you pal, never in all my 40 years have I felt I needed a cycle lane never mind an oversized one. Nice try with the "they are already where they should be" tosh though... So why are they not in use during the busy times of the day, like rush hour? Must be fixing a flat tyre hey?

Catch 22 situation, it won’t be widely used until there’s strong enough infrastructure but people complain about expanding the cycling infrastructure due to lack of use.

@@darksidehazuki4327my great grandad said never in 90 years did he need a harness when working at height, your feet should be providing adequate balance pal

@@TheAviation101 yet we still have roofers and they dont use a harness? Wasn't the win you was expecting with that silly comment hey? And your catch 22 is daft as a brush mate. It's already a "strong enough infrastructure" Suppose all them bus lanes was made to make busses feel safe. Until you muppets start obeying the rules of the road along with drivers, like stopping at lights and no undertaking... Dont cry about safety.
