      and @L33Reacts....
      I've never understand people always saying that Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins had same voice. It is so noticible to me. May be I am the one who miss the point but really I don't think so.

    • @davidbarker77
      @davidbarker77 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @arielquarante they are quite distinct but blend extremely well together. The same with Anderson and Squire. You can tell them apart but blended they almost sound like double tracked vocals. I think it’s the reason they could continue to do a lot of older songs after Peter left. Phil could carry on well, even though it was different.

    • @arielquarante
      @arielquarante 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed. But people, that's the point, usually don't notice the double tracked. And even not when obviously just as here Phil is singing alone.
      Of course, because he did a lot of double tracked vocals, one can often mismatch who it is. However, when it comes to be a lead voice, there is (to me) no doubt. Or at least after few lines.

      @@arielquarante I can tell immediately whenever Phil or Peter are singing. Their voices are quite distinct to anyone who's a long time listener of Genesis and Phil and Peter's solo stuff. But, I guess for new fans, it is harder to tell.

    Return of the giant hogweed, One of my favourite Genesis songs about a gentle romp in the English countryside with well heeled and well travelled gentlemen and their imported flesh eating plants that can walk and inject poison❤❤❤❤❤ this and 'watcher of the skies' as good as any Prog. Both even better live......

      @L33Reacts There is a giant hogweed plant in the UK. It is seen as an invasive pest. Although nothing like this in the song, which is more 'day of the Triffid'. Ours has poisonous leaves, and the sap which can burn and even leave scars, a bit like your poison ivy.

    Hi Lee, what a lovely reaction. Steve's guitar makes me weep also. He and David Gilmour are the most emotive guitarists in prog. When I was your age and feeling overwhelmed, music was the salve and I turned to it often. Progressive music always elevates my mood, but Genesis takes bliss to another level. It's good to see you "shedding ever-changing colours" (your emotions) as you let music guide you through difficult times. Chin up, buddy. You're doing right and things will work out for you and your girls. Cheers!

    I've seen Giant Hogweed once in the wild. It really is a giant, an enormous umbeliferate (like huge cow parsley or hemlock, over 6ft tall) with a massive stem covered in red hairs. You don't want to go near it! The hairs are poisonous and stinging, the poison reacts with sunlight to cause painful skin blisters. But worse than that, it can cause blindness if a hair gets in your eyes! I only knew about it from this song, so thanks Genesis, not just for a great piece of music but a useful public health warning 😊.

      You can hear Peter saying "Heracleum mantegazzianum" in the song, which is the Latin scientific name for the Giant Hogweed.. The plant is native to Russia, but was brought to England in 1817 as an ornamental and became naturaliized an spread in the wild.. It also spread throughout Europe and North America.

    I had to take a break seeing tears in your eyes. You seem, like me, to be extremely affected by music (for me movies too, everything). I weep at beauty and this, however it sounds, is “complete.” Genesis filled a void when I was 15. Floyd did at 16, and Yes did at 17/18. Crimson much later. Because Genesis were the first, I still find all their great music can take me places other bands can’t.❤❤

Also, Family's vocalist Roger Chapman has a near identical voice to Peter Gabriel and was a fan of their 60's albums where Chapman has a distinct heavy, raspy belting voice thats aggressive. I like to see how much you enjoy the band. I listen to the band like for the past 40 years when à friend made me discover them. A tip, although I do not know where you live, go to Hackett's gigs. They are increible ! Hé just did the Foxtrot tour and Seconds Out, and next year the Lamb (though not complete). It is worth it. And if you plan to go to à gig close to you, let me know. Hey, you're not alone, tough days will go away and as you said before, listen to only quality positive innovative music..it works!

      @@L33Reacts Mmmm....Not sure here on "already recorded".... Some of the tracks were already composed, that's for sure, but recorded? I don't think so... Steve joined in December 70 and Nursery Cryme was recorded in August 71! And also, For Absent Friends is a Hackett composition, it would be odd Mike playing the guitar on a Hackett composition.... So, I would say acoustics are as usual a mix of Mike and Steve's 12-strings, and Steve augmented the compositions with both electric and acoustic guitar playing.

    Sorry for your cold. I just got over mine (3 weeks, ugh). Nice Genesis choices.
    OK, it IS hard to tell the difference often, but this is Phil on 'Absent Friends'. You get a pass. 'Hogweed' is undoubtedly Peter. Note the botanical name included at the end of this tongue-in-cheek tune. Nothing like concern for invasive species back in 1971! "immune to all our herbicidal battering" is such a fine line. Love how Genesis uses all their instruments to blend a rockin' masterpiece. "Kill them with your Hogweed hairs! Heracleum Mantegazziani"

It is music that will stick with you for the rest of your life and help you through the dark times. I know it has for me! You were mentioning Yanni. I believe one of his biggest influences was Vangelis, another Greek keyboard maestro I suggest checking out. He did four albums with Jon Anderson of Yes and many groundbreaking electronic, and symphonic electronic albums from the 70s through to 2021.
