    John, thank you so much for this educational video and coming on my stream! It's amazing how you go out on a limb to help us 1400-1700 players grinding their way to the top. As per your recommendation, I'll totally consume "Starting out :1. d4" by John Cox and try out the Botvinik Ne2 concept with the QG!

      A couple months ago I was watching your stream and you asked for advice and I mentioned John Bartholomew's Fundamentals videos and how it changed my way of chess thinking. I'm really glad you guys found each other! :D

    My advice to less experienced players: You see how John after 13.f4 spot it weak pawn on e3 right away. After such moves I used to think why is this f4 good move and panicked it looked scary, coming forward on me, overprotecting his knight etc. Just try to think the opposite why is this possible bad move and you will see much clearly unprotected pieces (or pawns) free squares for your pieces and how can you take advantage of your opponent last move. Be calm and confident, not end of the world if you make a mistake that helped me lot to improve my play.

    Actually i had the same position OTB u had at 10 ne5 against an uscf expert, in which i ended up playing nf8 too, but he then took on f6. I got a nice initiative later but the catch is that black gets a playable position. Anyways this is one of my favorite series and it helped me a lot

    Hi John, I absolutely love your videos and find them very helpful. I like how you keep the games very simple, especially for beginners like us (I'm only ~900). So I focus on defending my pieces, gain an advantage and look for sensible trades. But often I do find myself with a minor piece advantage and I highly struggle with it. I have a very weird suggestion and I don't know if others concur with me on the same. But I found myself looking for games comeback or a counterattack was launched from a disadvantageous situation. Or even if there is any compilation of your games in which you overcame a disadvantage, that would be super helpful!
    Again, everything that you do is super helpful, I am highly grateful to your videos and suggestions.
    Do let me know if I can be of any help. Please keep these up!

      i remember john saying in some videos that if you're down in material, one good idea is to keep the pressure up. look for ways to attack so that the other side is busy defending, and maybe you'll find a way to equalize the material or get a better position

    The dedication of you viewers of Fins channel is pretty insane, I didn't expect so many people to be up in the middle of the night like me clicking John's videos every time the notifications from this channel pop up! If you keep this up you might be the top chess You-tuber someday and inexplicably overtake Hutch.

    That's so nice of you, John!
    Edit: Aside from missing the in-between-move, I think the big mistake was playing f5. It did give him some space and some nice king-side squares, but totally restricted his bishop and queen... And it really turned his bishop from a fairly good one to a passive and fairly bad one.

    Just curious if you use OBS to record your games? And also how did you resolve the audio/video lag from the recording

    • @JohnBartholomewChess
      @JohnBartholomewChess  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use XSplit. And what do you mean by audio/video lag?

    • @wurican1
      @wurican1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I record my games from time to time, but when I got back to watch them the audio is not synced with the video. For instance, I'll make a move and then a half of second to one second, you'll hear the audio for the move. I've been looking around and couldn't get one straight answer from youtube. I'd figure I'd ask someone else who records their games.

    • @JohnBartholomewChess
      @JohnBartholomewChess  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      daniel walker That has only happened a couple times to me on XSplit, so I'm not of much help :/ Uninstalling/reinstalling would be my first step if I were you; otherwise, maybe you need a better video card?
