A Hero on the Hudson - Captain Vince Lombardi

For nearly two decades, Vince Lombardi has been a ferry captain for the New York Waterway. January 15, 2009, was like any other day for Vince, ferrying passengers to their destination. That is until a passenger jet came to rest in front of his vessel in the Hudson River. Knowing that every second mattered, Vince mobilized his crew and helped rescue 56 passengers from the wing of the submerged plane. He credits God and putting faith into action with helping accomplish this harrowing feat.

The professionalism and seamanship this captain and other captains that day displayed was proof of how well-trained they are. I've seen this man interviewed several times and he talked about how he had to operate his vessel in reverse and he was worried about his wake knocking people off the wing into the water this is evidence of his professionalism and skill as a captain. All those ferry captains that day should be commended for what they did, people think all they do is cross the river taking people from one spot to the next, but they are highly trained captains that know how to operate their vessels. Had those captains and their vessels not been there that day there would have been loss of life these men saved those people on that plane from the river.
