Johnny in that first group of guys you meet after the train crash is the voice of Aradin from BG3, crazy to recognize so many established VAs in a mod!
I noticed several Disney references on my playthrough so far: The gilled people in Thamestown have a little red haired playing and she says: "Look at this stuff, isn't it neat?" Also a ghoul talked about "corruptiple immortal state," although in the Haunted Mansion they say mortal.
The intro narration, the setting, and that storm that kicked up around 5:24:00 all give me heavy "War of the Worlds" vibes. Specially the Jeff Wayne musical version. While I doubt there's anything in the mod, I do sincerely hope there's a reference to it somewhere.
As someone who is playing this mod at around 1 or 2 fps on the lowest quality, I'd be glad to get anything close to 30fps. I should also point out, when you got the Balisong knife and said "Are the British really this cool?" technically, the "Saxon"" in Anglo-Saxon comes from the word Seax, which was a long knife that every Englishman carried lol. So, we are actually so associated with knives, we are named after one haha.
Well, not entirely. Anglo-saxons are mixed folk as the word says. Namely Angles and Saxons. Angles where a germanic tribe from Jutland (Denmark) and the Saxons, also a germanic tribe, from old Saxony (northern germany). The Anglo-saxons became a cultural group when both of those tribes emmigrated to the british isles. The "old English" cultural identity, developed after the anglo-saxons intermingled with the pre-existing Romano-british culture. The proper "English" culture came after the viking and norman conquest and is basically a mixture of roman, celtic, germanic, frankish and norse culture, although Anglo-saxon is most dominant.
@@MyDoMiXD True, it was more for the "Britain knife joke" than anything else lol. Anglo-Saxon era England (and Bronze Age) are my particular areas of interest, always found them fascinating. Though, I would say the Romano-Celtic and Frankish influence is very minimal over all, depending on the area of course. I think a lot of the Old Norse influence English is said to have is not *quite* correct. Say with the word Sky for example. This is said to be an Old Norse borrowing. I don't think so. In ON Ský meant Cloud rather than the sky. Their word for the sky was Himinn. The OE word was Heofon. While Himinn and Heofon may possibly be descended from the same word, the pronunciation has shifted enough to say that if speaking to each other, English and Norse would not understand Himinn/Heofon instantly. They both however, have a word that is much more recognisably similar to each other. ON: Ský, OE: Sċēo, both meaning "Cloud". So when speaking rather than saying "Himinn/Heofon", both choose to say "Ský/Sċēo" which merged into "Sky" There are many other examples where a word is said to be a direct borrowing, but had it's own cognate in Old English. Skyrta/Sċyrte -> Shirt/Skirt Boli/Bula -> Bull Egg/Ǣġ -> Egg Lopt/Lyft -> Loft And so on. So I think many cases of borrowing are more choosing the easiest cognate that both can understand quickly. Especially with the "general" mutability both languages had, it makes more sense to choose the words both languages share, rather than the unique words of both. I do think that we borrowed many for sure, I've just noticed a lot of borrowings had cognates. I think that what ON was instrumental in changing English was syntax and word order, etc. English today seems to follow the rough same word order as Norwegian/Swedish and most Danish, whereas early OE was likely more similar to German word order, though less strict (you *could* change the order and still make sense.) Can you give me that book? Kan du gi meg den boken? (Nor) Kan du ge mig den boken? (Swe) Kan du give mig den bog? (Dan) vs Kannst du mir das Buch geben? (Ger) Kun je mij dat boek geven? (Dutch) Kinsto my dat boek jaan? (Fris) So in early OE I believe it may have been more like: "Canst þū mē þæt bōc ġiefan?" and later OE more like: Canst þū ġiefan mē þæt bōc? Sorry for the long tangent, but you mentioned Anglo-Saxon history, so I often tend to ramble on when it's mentioned lol.
