In apartment buildings it's almost impossible to get rid of them completely, the move around between apartments via plumbing, even if you get rid of them temporarily they always keep on coming back

Boil water to pour on laundry before washing in hot water. I literally had to throw away ALL my furniture. Obviously I moved. My neighbors apt was totally infested. And they bite. IDGAF what “pest control” says. I’ve killed two on my legs biting me.
@@eddiemorra2984 Those aren’t silverfish if you’re being bitten. They’re completely harmless to the human body. They don’t even carry diseases.
They do, however, eat our clothes and furniture.
@@Alex-1611 open your outlet covers and apply some pesticide in dust form into as many outlets that you can and then dust the attic with the pesticide dust and treat outside perimeter with a good residual liquid pesticide

@Idk__ the CY-KICK spray he recommended actually did the trick! I sprayed the base boards and the bathroom behind the toilet and the baseboards in there too and I haven’t seen any. Any dark little place I pretty much sprayed

I can't figure out where mine are coming from. Seen 4 so far, all in different places and on different floors. Kitchen windowsill, hallway downstairs, bathroom upstairs and the last one I saw was on the ground floor, where the carpet was recently ripped out but not replaced yet ( so there are holes in the ground floorboardd etc).
Nevertheless, still confused and grossed out.

I saw one crawling on my bed a few nights ago, if it wasn't for my laptop illuminating my room in the dark that mfer could have been crawling on me.
I live in Puerto Rico and it is normally humid so I have an explosion of silverfish. They eggs are everywhere and in the hundreds. I have to constantly be sweeping them off the ceiling and walls. The houses here are made of concrete so oil based pesticides probably not a good idea but I will try the packets to see if that works. So frustrating!! Thanks for the video.
Just be careful..they also eat clothes! Check your clothes if it’s a thin material you’ll notice little rigged holes a little bigger than a pin hole..

Get a dehumidifier n keep moisture out the house
Just had one crawl across my bed, inches from my face. It's hard to take proactive steps, since I rent a room in a house shared with others. But I will definitely ask my landlord to seal up the baseboards.
How old is the building? Is it near parks? What is the humidity like?
@@Skyrilla It's a relatively modern house (built early 2000s, maybe?), and in a very suburban environment. The issue, I think, is that it gets very hot and humid upstairs (where my bedroom is) when I'm not at home, because my housemates turn off the A/C to save electricity, take vory long hot showers, and there is no attic for the heat to escape into (the second floor is directly under the roof).

TALSTAR P is non toxic for children and pets once it dries 30 minutes later.
Don't use this stuff if your dogs eat the bugs.

When the eggs don't hatch, how long does it take to decompose sort of?
One of the best ways I have found…. Moth balls!!! Place them under your mattress, in draws, under the sink so forth.
And finally crush the moth balls, and place the powder all around the rooms cracks “for example the cracks dividing the wall, and the floor”…. The powder will go into the cracks and poison them.
Every night rub yourself with lavender oil mixed with your body lotion so they will stay far away from you, and your laundry basket do to the leftover scent…
Wash your floors and walls with bleach water, everyday for at least a week when you have spotted them… then slowly start washing your walls and floors with bleach one a week.
Put dried whole cloves, crushed cinnamon sticks, and lavender stems all over your home in little drawstring bags in the couch, under your bed, in your closet you name it.
Spoil yourself with scented candles, and defusers they hate strong scents…
Get a night lap in the rooms they are most present as they hate light.
It’s a process but once they are gone it is so worth it, plus this will keep them from ever coming back repeat this at least every 3 months.

@@zinebchaouni4701 they hate light, lavender and perfume smells. But to poison them moth balls are your best bet.
It seems to be the BEST way and the simplest way is to keep the humidity in the house low, aim at 40%, as then the eggs won’t survive. So don’t dry clothes inside, air out and dry out when showering and keep the house WARM in the winter. Do this and the problem will go away.
I keep cleaning my bed everyweek and using lavender spray but no success 😪 they just keep coming. I have no luck. Please help
Are pesticide sprays really needed? Im fine with the silver fish packs because there is basically 0 exposure unless you are actively trying to get it open, bought a dehumidifier and sticky traps too. I just dont like the sprays because inhalation and adverse affects from long term exposure. Stuff life that. Are they absolutely needed?
Hey Chris, I just wanted to update you on whats been going on with the silverfish/firebrat stuff. Still have them, have them since November 2020. I had an insect company come in and spray every month, eventually they increased the sprays to 3 times in a month, then they came in drilled holes in the wall and did powder. Then I had my company come in and seal up around the pipes in both my storage units, they sealed up some cracks in my closet and some around the baseboards but not all around the baseboards. The next thing I will do is be sealing up around the baseboards. I didn't know if hte company was bad or not since they have been doing treatment since november 2020, so now we have switched to another company. With the seal ups around the pipes. I am pretty concerned that this thing is just impossible to get rid of.... It may be the wood of the interior of the storage units, Ive seen them in the storage unit doors their were so may of them. we have treated that area alot, for months now. I really want a successful outcome with this. The last thing I want to try is setting baits inside the storage units and then sealing up the cracks the best I can all around the baseboards and the storage unit doors. Does sealent work effectively? If they are here at least they won't enter into my actual living area. I dont use the storage units and if I seal the baseboards they will go somewhere else? This has gone on long enough. My apartment business will even let me break lease terms to leave, but im so fucking tired of moving and it costs alot of money.
If this is still an issue for you, I recommend buying Niban.
Buy the fine granular stuff and powder the areas where you’ve seen activity, particularly at any crevices that might be potential entry/exit points for the little bugs.
It’ll possibly take while before you see any effect, but the bugs will eventually ingest the bait and destroy their own ability to effectively process any nutrients from whatever food they consume.
You should do this in conjunction with making sure to regularly clean your home, and possibly install any dehumidifiers if you live in a very hot and humid place, particularly in your bathroom and maybe closet.
They hide under the insulation, gotta get under that.

I find 5 of these suckers per day, it's been an issue since 2020, back then it was 1 per month that I would see them, now it's 5 per day..
I am considering moving away, it's such a shame cos I love my area... They can't survive regular oil, like 1 drop of nigella oil and they die, so I am thinking about buying nigella oil and put it into all the wood and cracks and then seal the cracks with woodglue, and also getting a dehumidifier in a few days.. These small bugs, they are so so annoying and disgu...
@@orion9k I have good news for you my friend. Your efforts won't go in vain. Do it. If that method works then do it. I'm from Michigan so something worked out really well for me. I keep my apt at 68 degrees year round. They reproduce at the temp I think of 72 or higher. My suggestion - use sealant on every baseboard and crack around entire apt. After you do a massive company spray. Use the company but seal and use sprays and everything. The sealing and 68 degrees does wonders. I still have my spray bottle but I'm down to like 1 bug every 2 months, it's amazing, and they aren't crawling on my wall over my head or on walls. Usually on carpet even dead most the time. There's also that white powder I forgot what it's called but not good with pets and hard to breathe in. I vacuumed it up but only need a little bit of it if you want to add it to your repertoire
@@orion9k I used a liquid sealer it's like a caulk but it's better for removal so when I move won't be an issue but my apt. Business didn't mind at all. They aren't as bad as cockroaches. Cockroaches you must move!!! With bristletail creatures you can fight and win so that's the good news. Deck out on your resources and crank your AC on. I love my place now that I got them down. They may even be fully eradicated from my crib at this level. Also if you find rotten wood get rid of it, whether that's manually or with your apt business. That's one of the top things is getting rid of the bad wood, but I know that silverfish are a winnable battle. Trust me on that. Just keep some regular bug spray on hand like I got now. Zero stress now. Doing a spray every 2 or 3 months for one bug is a cakewalk (especially after all the seal ups around baseboards). They aren't as bad as cockroaches, remember that. Another thing, do seal ups on baseboards and cracks anywhere you see them in entire apt like I did. I know it's costly but it is a winnable battle with this resources and efforts. Take it from me. That's the best methods

Exactly so have I. Everyone keeps saying they are nocturnal I wonder if silverfish are aware of this they appear to be ones who are morning insects, midday insects and night insects. Also they are not just in bathroom. They can be anywhere and everywhere. Maybe they have evolved because from all the videos I've watched everyone says the same things but it seems scripted and it's not true.

Hi Chris cheers for the info. We see them in our House at times. We bought Boric Acid Powder. We read that it kills the Eggs as the Silverfish take the powder back to those friends lol and the Eggs. . They look Ugly buy they do not wamt us Humans they love Warer and Toilet paper as you mentioned. We put it in the corners of the Bathroom. All our Breakfast food are in Plastic Containers. Keep safe and well during theses difficult times with Covid x
Chris, I just moved into my apt on the third floor of an older building and saw silver fish crawling out of window crack , bathroom has no fan and claw foot tub. I can do the sticky stuff, but spraying exterior not a possibility this high or would spraying first floor exterior prevent them climbing up?
I've been finding them in my closet in the middle of my clothes. Im so afraid but my closet it's a cabin what should i do?? It's a sort of cabin with inside a big closet and peobably their hiding behind. Im so afraid i literally sleep near to them and they're eating my clothes. But also i have a cat that goes always inside the closet and i don't want him to taste some sort of pesticide... What should i do??

Hey chris, i had a silverfish problem for a while now they always come in my bedroom where there is no sort of paper. Im typing this in the middle of the night because there was a silverfish in my bed. I have tried a lot of things to get them out my bedroom but they keep coming here, is there anything that could be luring them in? like some crumbs behind my bed or outside the garbage bin?
Lavander oil will repel them they hate lavander. Put some in your floor aroun bedroom, closet, ect . Borax closet floor. Indoor pesticides behind stove, bookcase , washer dryer, or big furniture. Open doors , ventilate. Don’t leave food or crumbs. Keep floors clean. Hope that helps.

@@zinebchaouni4701 It did work, i went to the hardware store and bought some silverfish spray. I sprayed it around the nooks un my room almost daily, eventually they just stoped coming probally because i killed them all. Also closing of gaps is a good idea. they used to climb op on my bed via the gap in my bedframe and my wall so i just shoved my matres against the wall closing the gap. Highly recommend gettung a flashliht and noting places where you see many. make sure to hit thos spots extra well
My first time seeing those pests was when I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet. When I was about to wash my hands, there they were in the damn sink. I know they love damp areas but now I hear they can get into your bedroom???

Cute guy too. But I live in an apartment building and I think they're all throughout the building, they collect in the light fixtures, some are tiny and some are about a half inch long. I don't think getting just my apartment treated will not do it. My landlord has said that an apartment above me had a leak, BUT I've seen them throughout the building.

Last 4 weeks I've killed 4 or so I think are silver fish. I live in north Carolina just moved into this house an I always have to have it around 65 an chill but I've been noticing alot of humidity in the house an I'm not sure what's the source like is there to much insulation or do I need a dehumidifier? I need to make it where they go away. Bugs freak me out really bad almost a phobia 😥 Also am keeping my fan on my account going all the time now feels like it still doesn't help the humanity.... idk.

I am having a hard time identifying which is the ones I've encountered or more material on firebrats. Especially that silverfish bait, I was thinking about getting that to lay it in my attics toward the center more away from the Earth powder stuff near the inside of the door. Yes, the treatment for firebrats is the same. Firebrats and silverfish are very similar and fall into the same family (Lepismatidae). The dekko silverfish paks will indeed work well on firebrats.
@@chrisvan1 thanks for your message I had the exterminator come over and for months they've been doing spray and nothing has had any success. About a week ago they came over and drilled holes in the wall and so they put a dust into the wall. I haven't seen any near the baseboards like I was seeing a lot more near the baseboards and near the lower parts of the wall but for the first time I have seen one that is too hard for me to reach and kill I'm looking at it right now LOL it's basically about 15 ft up on the ceiling and so I need something that will projectile to get this guy down. Is this normal because I'm assuming because they just did the powder into the walls that I would see this?

I moved 2 years ago and brought them with me unfortunately, still have them, mainly see them in my bathroom and my bedroom a few times 🙄 soooo cringe but I’ve had to just try not to think about it.
Problem is I’m moving again and I’ve had cardboard boxes in my hallway for 4 days…today I’m packing up some stuff and there’s a baby one speeding round the box! Ffs. I’m waiting for the sticky traps but I’m guessing I’ll be having them in my new home to!
Omg this is exactly my biggest worry for when I plan to move soon. The little infant ones are literally invisible to the bare eye unless you are specifically zoning in on it which means they could literally be everywhere and we don’t see them.
Sticky traps are practically useless. I've been using them for the longest time and yea they catch em but it doesn't help. I just moved into a new home and it's infested with them, I don't wanna live with them for the rest of my life and everything I've tried doesn't work.

I have used a pest control service for 3 years.always a temporary fix. Never more than one or two at a time. I am now tackling it my self. I have never seen any in the usual places..

Hey not a pro on this topic BUT i read that they eat fungus or rotten materials. Do you have any places that could be a potential spot? Oh and they live mostly in tubes behind the wall and only crawl out when they thing that "outside" is a better place to live. And yes they are attracted to paper becouse of the starch... But if your books have little holes in them its a completly different race of silverfish
Treat the attic in winter months and put a pesticide dust in all voids like your outlet covers ,remove and dust then replace covers.they migrate from your attic as the weather warms they want to go back outside

You couldn’t be more wrong. Once you see one, you’re dealing with an infestation. The neighbor on the other side of my wall is a hoarder. Boxes & paper floor to ceiling. They eat paper, books, boxes. They infested my closets, furniture & mattress. I’ve found the plump newly hatched white ones on my body FROM my mattress. On my cupboards, knobs, etc. Total infestation DURING WINTER.

Dude just came across your video and you brought up some good points. I recently just moved to a new apartment in San Jose and I’ve noticed some silverfish in my apartment.
I occasionally see them in my bathroom on the bathroom mat, but recently saw one in my room and on my sleeping bag. I’m waiting on my bed cause of shipping so I’ve been sleeping on my sleeping bag on the carpet and noticed one on my sleeping bag.
I’m a clean person and vacuum my room every single day even bathroom. Yet i still see these damn bugs every other day or so. I do have a cat that sleep in the same bedroom as me so I wanted to ask if those silverfish packets would be ok to use in my room knowing my cat is gonna be there too? Any help I could use?
Same , just moved into a new apartment and notice a few silverfish. I started putting my ac up and haven’t seen them . Those suckers are fast 🤣😩
Update : I’m moving out , I’ve done everything, but if they don’t treat the other units or as I seen silverfish in the parking garage, I will always have them in my apartment. I left a $950 apt no insects , to move to a $1535.00 brand new Building/apt to be dealing with this . . I have raid / fogger/ something earth I purchased on Amazon, so I better not get charged for early termination fee . No one should be spending there monies on something that the building owners should be ADDRESSING..!! Ugh 🤦🏻♀️
