Can't believe D'Angelo just casually dropped the fact that he makes music but he'll never release it but also...makes perfect sense that D'angelo makes music that he'll never release lmao
AURORA is, to me, like a warm hug. whenever my existential crises are crushing me, her songs are a hot chocolate during winter. whenever i’m angry at the world, she’s the fire that helps me burn positively. she’s cathartic in a way nobody else is. and her concerts? my, oh my. they’re a spiritual experience. she likes to monologue about importat stuff, like helping each other, wars, and empathy. and her words in said speeches are just… again, a warm hug. i just went to see her live 3 days ago, and i feel like i was reborn again. she is the absolute best. as a fellow autistic, she just gets me and i thank the day i stumbled upon her music.
This is what I love about music. I watched the entire video and I only recognized like 3-4 names you mentioned. There's SO MUCH MUSIC out there for every single kind of taste. I personally have fallen down the K-Pop rabbit hole and have discovered around 30 or so boy and girl groups that I never knew existed. I'll have to bookmark these artists and come check them out too.
Mamamoo, Dreamcatcher, and Onewe are my jam for K-pop! Onewe is more krock I guess, they are a band. But they need so much more attention! Aurora is my favourite track of theirs!

omg i love paramore's this is why and i've been listening to it religiously since its release. i'm so glad it was mentioned despite being a 2023 release!
I discovered it a few months ago and it’s literally something I didn’t know I needed. I’d have to say my favorite rn is the news. (realistically I can’t pick a favorite)
Ah, Aurora is amazing. Like a dream, beautiful and haunting dream. Ethel is also amazing and like a dream, but the dream in question leaves you crying and unable to sleep again. I love both of them so much.
IM SO HYPED FOR PERVERTS TOO!! Ethel is among my top 3 artists ever, she’s so talented both in terms of lyrics, vocals, as well as production and creating such an amazing, gut-wrenching storyline…it’s like she takes what i feel and puts it into the best music I’ve heard! She’s amazing
@tyler_thecreation is your life really that boring that you fill your time by being negative under every comment here? If you don’t like d’Angelo or his fans then go find someone else to watch, or maybe go outside, touch some grass, you’ll be surprised there’s a whole world outside the internet.
I’ve been a fan of AURORA since she released Runaway in 2016 and it’s so nice to see her here. I’m also super excited to see Ethel Cain make it to the list because Preachers Daughter changed my brain chemistry.
IM SEEING HER LIVE IN DECEMBER!!! I’m not a real fan though. I’ve only listened to her first album. My sister is a superfan. She’s listened to the new album like 10 times just this week.
Magdalena Bay, Clairo, HYDE, The Japanese House???? Saw You in a Dream by The Japanese House still has my heart in a chokehold to this day. Amazing recs, can’t wait to listen to these during my commutes. Prelude to Ecstasy by The Last Dinner Party and Underdressed at the Symphony by Faye Webster were my top two albums of the year!
OMG I was so pleasantly surprised to hear that Aurora’s album was your favorite! The whole time I was watching the video I kept thinking of her amazing album. Aurora is one of the best artists out there and deserves so much recognition for her beautiful work. It’s so wonderful to know that you enjoy her music as well! Edit: I’m so excited to have the chance to see her live soon!
First time I saw “Frozen II,” I was like “wow, they did a really good job making that mysterious voice an ethereal, otherworldly sound that you yet find familiar but you can’t place from where” and then the credits hit and I saw AURORA and went “AH”
@@cyan_galaxy Just looked into that. It would seem that all the drummer did to make anyone suggest he was a nazi is do the '👌' hand symbol. He stated that the gesture literally just means 'great' or 'nice' in his culture (as it does in mine too) and that was it. Aurora made a statement to clarify that he was not a nazi and she does not support far-right ideology. Seems like Twitter reaching as always
I got to see her virtual concert in Sky: Children of the Light and I feel the exact same way. I love going back every now and again just to breathe Queendom into my soul
if u havent listened to sarah kinsley she released her first full album this year and its just amazing. her music is so underrated, my fave track is probably escaper (also the album name) and a close second is there was a room. shes so musically talented and she was amazing in concert
I ascended when you mentioned Aurora as your favorite album! It’s such a beautiful track list. It’s very beautiful and hits me at the heart. Also, if you ever want to check out another artist - Kiki Rockwell is pretty freaking cool too
I feel like Megan Thee Stallion has been having a phenomenal year. Her two albums have had absolute smashes on them and I really love the direction her sound and visuals are going. But for me, my favourite album was Doechii's "Alligator Bites Never Heal", which is actually a mixtape but you get the vision. It's such a phenomenal display of her skill and creativity, it's some of my favorite rap I've heard in a minute
Right place, wrong person by RM has been on repeat for me since release. Experimental and unexpected with great features from Little Simz and Moses Sumney.
thank YOUUUU, i love all of the artists featured but have no experience with RM, listening now and absolutely enjoying it already. thank you thank you!!
I feel very grateful for the full body chills I got when you said your favorite was an album I also love so so so so much. The way we (humans and beings) are so connected through the medium of music is something I'm breathlessly grateful for.
AURORA being at the placement it is, is so damn true. her album this year has to be one of her best. every track is so perfect in their own way. it's a perfect combination of existential crisis, entering a dreamscape, going to the club, and fighting in a war. i am so happy she was on the list, because this album absolutely blew me away.
the green-screened bits of the outfit are giving chowder from cartoon network and i am deeply Here For It YOOO CAVETOWN SLAPS I AM SO PUMPED FOR THE REST OF THESE AHH
I’ve been listening to the acoustic version of the little vice EP on loop since it came out it’s excellent- I was so glad to see it on the list since I wasn’t expecting to know any albums mentioned, and lmao as it turned out it was the only one I knew
Wtf I was literally just talking about the weird animation style of Chowder today! Also remembering that time Schnitzel said “oooo rada” when somebody was getting in trouble 😭 That show was so weird and funny!
I love that u mentioned this is why by paramore. I’ve been listening to it on repeat for 3 months now and I can’t get enough. I love how Haley is always experimenting with various sounds and isn’t afraid to try a different style. i really love how she targets issues in society, government and just the world in general in this album. easily became one of my top 3 albums
I think I'm experiencing what people who don't read books feel when watching a youtuber making their "best 30 books of 2024". I don't think I've listened to a single song, let alone an entire album, of my own volition, in the whole of 2024. Glad people are finding gems for their ears
What I have learned is that I have a very different music taste to you- not that I like the the music in the worst list, but because I don’t like the music in the best list either. This isn’t an issue, just a reminder to me that even music I don’t like can be great and worth appreciating. Great video D’Angelo!!
In a similar boat! I do really like Ethel Cain and FKA Twigs, but a lot of the top albums he recommended just wasn’t my taste. I think your reminder is great, and is something that people should keep in mind when discussing music. Hope you’re having a nice day!
More people should check out the album Invisible Empire // Crescent Moon by KT Tunstall, because that’s like the right amount of indie, folk, and country. Beautiful album.
you are just crushing it lately. it’s really great when someone’s pumping out content and it’s stuff that you really enjoy making. the consistent content is selfishly great for us but even more so , its content that makes you happy too. and there’s never a promise or expectation that you’ll keep doing it , so the fact you’ve done so many consecutive had your audience locked in.
Alligator Bites Never Heal by Doechii, it's a mixtape (which is just an album with less pressure) but it's one of the best rap projects of the year. She's whimsical, dominant, versatile, raw and lyrical. It solidifies Doechii as the future of female rap and hip-hop as a whole. Truly a gem of TDE, even Kendrick said she's hard
Thank you for mentioning Ethel, she's my absolute favorite and I'm also really anticipating the new album as well!!! Also this video definitely gave out some new recs to listen to, your taste is ✨
Top 3 is probably in this order: 1. Brat by Charli XCX - the remix album reminded me of how special Charli and this album are. THE album I kept going back to this year, I can't wait to see her live in a few weeks. 2. Imaginal Disk by Magdalena Bay - pretty much for all the reasons you mentioned. One of thee most ambitious yet perfectly executed pop records I've heard in a while. I will also be seeing them live in a few weeks lmao. 3. Cowboy Carter by Beyoncé - it's a shame this really came and went in terms of the 2024 zeitgeist. I genuinely think it's incredible to see Beyoncé continue to innovate so long into her career. It's beautiful and madcap and long as hell but idk it really works for me. This year was crazy for music like I could be here all day if I kept going.
Yessss, love all your content and this video is no exception! Thank you for the artist recs and omg ur music taste is fantastic. Love This is Why, love Empathogen, love so much of the music in this video!! I was waiting to see Alligator Bites Never Heal by Doechii tho, I am loving it. Also, I was thinking of the vid you made about Halsey’s new album and that you like Lonely is the Muse the best (great pick), and watching that vid and then this one made me think you’d also like the song Nightmare by Halsey from 2019 bc it gives me Paramore vibes and I’m a fan of the lyrics.
my favorite album was probably "Right Place, Wrong Person" by RM. i just love the jazzy vibes and artistical direction he was going for all whilst making such a cool impact
1. The Cure - Songs of a Lost World 2. The Last Dinner Party - Prelude to Ecstasy 3. Chappell Roan - The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. Also omg thanks for the shoegaze recommendation! And yay new Ethel Cain coming. And Aurora is this generation’s Bjork, long may she reign
punish is soooooo brilliant. her musical excellence is truly fascinating. one might think that 6-7 min track is super long but you don't even notice when you get into it
Omg just seeing this video and i'm so happy to see someone with the same favorite album as me! "What Happened To The Heart?" isn't talked about enough and people really need to give it it's flowers. I think it's maybe not for everyone, but if you're someone who loves to connect with music and really pay attention to the details and the lyrics for example it is amazing!
Hi dangelo you probably won't see this but thanks for recommending my twee monsters! Awesome album and honestly one of my top 5 already, only knew one song by her. I am so impressed by the album, so fun! My favorite song from it is endorphin heist but I also like carbonhead
solid top albums! can't wait to check out the ones i hadn't heard of before! i'd say my top albums of the year (in no particular order): - empathogen by willow (d'angelo is so right for this one) - clancy by twenty one pilots - troubleshooting by xdinary heroes - dall by artms - big ideas by remi wolf - j by jaehyun - something for everybody by sammy rae & the friends
The Magdalena Bay album is so good! Definitely in my top 3. My personal other two favorites of the year have been Brat and newcomers Fat Dog with their album Woof. But this was a good list, you have some very quality taste imo.
In order for it to be a comeback, you would need to have fallen off. Paramore have never fallen off. They’ve been amazing since day 1, and they’ll be amazing on day 14,001
That mag bay album was so perfect I can’t even describe it. Everything was so meticulously put together and crafted into such a gorgeous project I just love it so much
LETS GO CLAIRO AND PARAMORE MENTIONED 🗣🗣🗣 I think my favourite album for this year is "Clancy" by Twenty One Pilots or "A Hometown Odyssey" by Livingston. Both tackle self worth and mental health so beautifully, its hard to pick a favorite. From both those albums, "Next Semester" and "Neon" respectively feel like songs I've grown to love the most. They both feel so profound in both lyrics and instrumental, and even though they sound different, they feel similar, if ya get me. Definitely recommend the "Next Semester" music video too, its just beauty and pain all in one.
This year I fell in love with Jorge Rivera Herrans' EPIC. My favourites would have to be No Longer You, from the Underworld Saga, and Open Arms, from the Troy Saga. It's geniunely difficult to give even just two songs as favourites, they're all so good.
My friend just got me into this when Thunder Saga dropped and is now holding me hostage to not listen to Vengeance Saga until they come back (I'm going to sob). I don't know if I could choose a favorite, but Open Arms is def up there with Wouldn't You Like and Ruthlessness for me (honestly, I just really like all of Storm Saga lmao)
@@shadowpixie01 oh, both of those are excellent as well. Hermes' laughter and Posiedon's whole bit with "you are the worst kind of good" really bring the god vibes. I have to be honest though, my favourite 'god' so far has to be Apollo, his like two lines in God Games really won me over. It's such a tough choice again though.
this line up of artists and ur brief thoughts on halsey affirms my feeling that you would really like her previous album "if i can't have love, i want power." seriously one of the best albums of the decade in my opinion. cannot wait for new FKA & ethel cain too, they are geniuses
Seconding this, it's incredibly underrated and features sublime Trent Reznor production. A must-listen for anyone who's vibing with the 90s alt inspired tracks on TGI like Dog Years/Arsonist/Darwinism/Lonely is the Muse.
hell yeah i am a HUGE AURORA fan and was like "what if that was number one lol" and it was!!! i just feel like not enough people know/talk about her. gonna see her live again later this month. everyone check out the album and her earlier music too. it just makes you feel so much
not to be a BTS fan, but j-hope’s HOPE ON THE STREET VOL 1 is such a fun, almost city-pop-esque EP that’s just a sweet treat all around. definitely my favorite from this year
He rly did his thing on that album like c'mon Jung Hoseok icon🗣️🗣️ Also the documentary series of the same name Hope on the street was so well done and looked into the dance styles and history he highlighted like popping, locking, house etc
two of my favorites of 2024: Coloured Concrete, Verbathim by Nemahsis (song)- stunning vocals, very cinematic indie pop Make My Soul A River by Thomas LaVine (single)- feels like an open sky, very mellow and yearning indie folk
Right place wrong person by RM has been my absolute favourite this year! I totally thought itd be 'post human: nex gen' by bring me the horizon but RPWP is just so so good man
As much as I'm loving the daily content, and also someone that has to work 7 days a week a day, don't burn yourself out bro, would be a big loss for us
Ethel Cain? That's TASTE, baby! Ain't one bad song and she just seems like a cool person overall! Also, she has the most disgustingly beautiful songwriting I've ever seen. Even the production is flawless! I think finding her music might've actually changed the course of my life and I'm not joking. She's incredible really 😤🔥
I think DALL (Devine All Love & Live) might be my favorite album of 2024, and maybe the best kpop release/debut too??? The title track + its b-sides are so ethereal it makes you forget you’re listening to a Kpop girl group wow. NOT TO MENTION HOW GORGEOUS THE VIRTUAL ANGEL MUSIC VIDEO IS😭 literally a work of art
i literally was cheering at the screen when you mentioned aurora !! i was a little caught off guard bc a lot of the artists you mentioned i have never heard of, im definitely adding some of these to my own playlists and spotify likes
You got to listen to Ley Soul, they don’t actually have an album out and are an independent artist but I think they are planning on releasing an album or maybe an ep at some point in the near future. I am obsessed with all 3 of their songs they have on spotify and can honestly listen to it on repeat because I think it is genius. Amazing vocals, very jazzy, but with a weird out of this world opulent type vibe.
I do dances in Final Fantasy 14, and I laughed when Paris Hilton's album was one of the least liked ones! I actually vibed really hard with "I'm Free" from that album, and when your favorite pick of you favorite album was also one I'd danced to recently, my heart was really happy! I'm happy for the music suggestions!
YOOO TRACEY BRAKES, JANE REMOVER AND MAG BAY MENTIONED ‼️‼️‼️ imaginal disk is prob like my second fav album of this year but i think porter bias wins out this year and i think SMILE! :D has gotta be AOTY.. if u wanna hear more stuff like jane remover and tracey i would HIIIGHLY reccomend underscore’s “wallsocket” if you haven’t listened already!! the production is so dripping with detail and it’s so kinetic and addictive, and the story in the album is soo compelling and explores a lot of underrepresented themes in a super interesting way (like shout out uncanny long arms which actually has jane remover on it lmao, it’s about gender dysphasia thru the lens of body horror, great stuff.) and of course gotta reccomend SMILE! :D by porter robinson if you haven’t listened. porter became my fav artist in the world this year and this album is what cemented that for me, genuinely amazing production and a non stop flow of incredibly 2000s era pop rock / indietronica vibes.. genuinely incredible album
smile is prob my top album this year and wallsocket is 2023's!!! both albums are so intensely unrelatable to me (apart from maybe Is There Really No Happiness and Duhhhhh) but both have remained ON ROTATION since their releases!!! bitch i AM taylor swift!!!
The 4 new songs on wallsocket director’s cut are also some of my favs from this year!! But yes SMILE :D is one of my favs from this year in addition to the tracey brakes & magbay albums, I’m so jealous of the European fans who get to see porter & underscores in the same concert :,)
@ YEA TOTALLY AGGHHH i have a friend who is going to the london show and they dont even know underscores smh 💔 im seeing porter in melbourne in feb and a part of me wishes so badly he would get underscores to open here too but alas i dont think it’s happening rip
no cuz we have such similar taste in many regards bless your entire being for making a playlist of this. Also LOVE how you mentioned that feeling when an artists music matches your life. I have a few artists I've been following for a while who have matched what I have going on, matched my energy even when Im feeling so down. Music is an incredible instrument of expression.
CAVETOWN, ETHEL CAIN AND AURORA MENTIONED !!!!! i’d say you have a p cool taste! My actual music taste that i’d say is the kind i actually really vibe to is kinda whimsical escapism music if that makes sense???? here’s some artists id recommend since i love yapping about music lol: - MADILYN MEI!!! she’s gotta be my favorite of all time aaand she’s one of my main musical inspirations for my own art and i guess shes like- bedroom indie pop with like a fantasy folk twist if that makes sense????? just really unique amazing music with a bunch of styles but all having the same unique madilyn mei feel. She released an ep called “the bard” this year and in 2025 i cant WAIT for her next album ;o; - Sparkbird/Stephan Nance (they release music under both names) aaand they released quite a few singles this year and they’re all beautiful and amazing for just… daydreaming and imagining cool characters. They also use a lot of bird imagery which i personally rlly like as a birder myself ‼️ aaaand Rabbitology is SUPER underrated. released a bunch of singles this year- she kinda makes this fantasy horror kinda fairycore music that’s honestly really a vibe that does deal with touchy topics such as mental health & religious trauma. so great if you kinda want something you can let your emotions out to while also feeling like a cool little forest goblin - of course, Yaelokre (im sure you guys have heard of them if you’ve been on the internet long enough)- aside from the kinda wild fanbase, i’d say listen to them!! yaelokre/keath is SUPER talented. they’re one person who’s created four characters and does the voices for each of them in the songs with a super magical sounding folky indie vibe that actually tells super interesting stories if you listen to the lyrics! this year they put out two eps called hayfields and songs of origin as well as the song “harpy hare” that everyone knows lol. aaaanyways i think this is it :p (i didn’t expect to yap this much holy hecc)
the fact that you like glaive paramore and jane remover really really makes me think you’d like underscores’ latest album from last year, wallsocket. it’s really really good hyperpop/folk/rock and i was half-expecting it to be on your 2023 honorable mentions, you should really check it out if you haven’t already :)
Gahhh this is a little silly because we rlly don’t know each other but THANK YOU for making a video like this. Echo of my shadow genuinely helped me get through so much these past few months. Not to sound like a weirdo but we are pretty similar and im from Canada and I just know you’re probably going through a lot right now. Just know that we got this. The world is scary but it’s people like us that can make it just a little better. Take care !!
my favourite album of this year would either be "what a devastating turn of events" by rachel chinouriri or "prelude to ecstasy" by the last dinner party. i think if anyone likes the recommendations d'angelo mentioned in this video, they'd also like these albums!
Hit Me Hard And Soft, & Empathogen are great! What Happened To The Heart? is my favorite! ::) i was actually hoping Aurora’s album would show up somewhere but i was still surprised when it did! ::D
My top 5: 1. I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU - JPEGMAFIA (masterpiece) 2. CHROMAKOPIA - Tyler (basic but it's so good, Tyler's Mr Morale) 3. SCRAPYARD - Quadeca (could be number 2, very emotional, beautiful and versitile) 4. Imaginal Disk - Magdalena Bay (the same reasoning as D'Angelo) 5. AND THEY MIND FOR OUT BODIES - Gao The Arsonist (my underground pick for this year, great experimental cloud rap/emo rap, the mixing is shit but it just makes the vibe even better) or #RICHAXXHAITIAN - Mach-Hommy (great rapping, lyricism, production and everything, Mach delivered as always)
Having FLO and Willow on this list is so real!! FLO has been coming out with absolute banger after banger and I'm ridiculously excited for the album (Think Different all the way to Mary is an insaneeee run) - DEIRA by Saint Levant > (Allah Yihmeeki goes rlly hard) - If My Jeans Could Talk by Kyle Dion > (all of it. hes my favourite artist) - MINISERIES 2 by Sumin & Slom > (GOODBYE !!!!) - P.O.P. by Marina Satti > (Ah Thalassa tore my heart out) - pawwwfect! by lil hero > (2023 release but its really good)
didn't expect aurora to be at the top of your list!! I love her vibe but I only like some of her songs from previous albums... I'll give her new lp a chance :D
what if i put all the cool songs in a spotify playlist would that be cool (don't care did it anyway) open.spotify.com/playlist/7E2T3Q888sCxE16vjlMBSt?si=de96b1021d574b42
yes d'angelo!!!!!!!!
omg love this!! i will check it out thank you :) also the fit today is serving
thank you good sir!
Jane Remover is a huge W
And Magdalena Bay
Can't believe D'Angelo just casually dropped the fact that he makes music but he'll never release it but also...makes perfect sense that D'angelo makes music that he'll never release lmao

she’s truly an artist SOO close to my heart! i so get you
Ohhhh Aurora live must be an experience 🥹

I love Aurora and I was super excited that she did a duet with BMTH

This is what I love about music. I watched the entire video and I only recognized like 3-4 names you mentioned. There's SO MUCH MUSIC out there for every single kind of taste. I personally have fallen down the K-Pop rabbit hole and have discovered around 30 or so boy and girl groups that I never knew existed. I'll have to bookmark these artists and come check them out too.
I love k pop! BTS, blackpink, gangnam style, that one Cupid song.
this is exactly what i was thinking
Mamamoo, Dreamcatcher, and Onewe are my jam for K-pop! Onewe is more krock I guess, they are a band. But they need so much more attention! Aurora is my favourite track of theirs!
omg yesss stan ateez and kiss of life!!!!!
same for me, got down the same rabbit hole of kpop and even within this, there's just so many to listen to... currently into NMIXX

Have fun at the concert !

I feel so validated now because Aurora's album felt like a spiritual awakening. Your Blood was my fuel through a very stressful work period lol

Just looked into that.

Wow I didn't know she released an album! Have to go listen because "The King" became my whole personality for like a year

Experimental and unexpected with great features from Little Simz and Moses Sumney.
around the world in a day is a banger!!
absolutely the way over just a few months it has become part of my all time favourite album list
It’s such a great album. To me it sounds like a 90’s hip hop throwback while simultaneously sounding fresh as well. Classic.

I feel very grateful for the full body chills I got when you said your favorite was an album I also love so so so so much. The way we (humans and beings) are so connected through the medium of music is something I'm breathlessly grateful for.
Honestly, my fav album rn is Tyla's self titled. Very much vibes in a "i dont gotta try hard to be a baddie but i still like respect" way.

Not just Brat, but she gave us an EPIC remix album that was equally as amazing! Nobody doing it like Charli

Also remembering that time Schnitzel said “oooo rada” when somebody was getting in trouble 😭 That show was so weird and funny!
no way i said the exact same thing when deangelo pointed it out 😭😭😭😭😭
I love that u mentioned this is why by paramore.
You liking indie/folk music makes so much sense, and yet it surprised me!
Also this video definitely gave out some new recs to listen to, your taste is ✨
Top 3 is probably in this order:
I feel like Cowboy Carter just wasn't fully played out ☹️ if you know what I mean

LETS GO CLAIRO AND PARAMORE MENTIONED 🗣🗣🗣
I think my favourite album for this year is "Clancy" by Twenty One Pilots or "A Hometown Odyssey" by Livingston.
It's geniunely difficult to give even just two songs as favourites, they're all so good.
my friend actually recently got me into this,,, lol
The way I shrieked when you announced What Happened To The Heart! I was like where is Aurora on this list and then shock 😮. 100% correct!
this line up of artists and ur brief thoughts on halsey affirms my feeling that you would really like her previous album "if i can't have love, i want power." seriously one of the best albums of the decade in my opinion. cannot wait for new FKA & ethel cain too, they are geniuses
Seconding this, it's incredibly underrated and features sublime Trent Reznor production. A must-listen for anyone who's vibing with the 90s alt inspired tracks on TGI like Dog Years/Arsonist/Darwinism/Lonely is the Muse.
hell yeah i am a HUGE AURORA fan and was like "what if that was number one lol" and it was!!! i just feel like not enough people know/talk about her. gonna see her live again later this month. everyone check out the album and her earlier music too. it just makes you feel so much
11:20 im in love w rina sawayama so when i’m free dropped i was immediately on it and the difference between rina’s voice and paris’ is JARRING
not to be a BTS fan, but j-hope’s HOPE ON THE STREET VOL 1 is such a fun, almost city-pop-esque EP that’s just a sweet treat all around. definitely my favorite from this year
JHOPE IS SOOOO GOOD
he's so underrated compared to the other members!! I think he always makes the best music
YESSSSSS !!!!
real neuron has such a nostalgic fun vibe
He rly did his thing on that album like c'mon Jung Hoseok icon🗣️🗣️
Also the documentary series of the same name Hope on the street was so well done and looked into the dance styles and history he highlighted like popping, locking, house etc
two of my favorites of 2024:
Coloured Concrete, Verbathim by Nemahsis (song)- stunning vocals, very cinematic indie pop
Make My Soul A River by Thomas LaVine (single)- feels like an open sky, very mellow and yearning indie folk
nemahsis is super underrated!
I was just looking for new music to listen to! Thank you, sunday D'Angelo!!
i love 'my body is not mine' from aurora's album, that song actually has me in tears when i watch the video
Right place wrong person by RM has been my absolute favourite this year! I totally thought itd be 'post human: nex gen' by bring me the horizon but RPWP is just so so good man
i am actually obsessed w jane remover and you saying her name actually cured something in me I think
Same
my janeheads
the way I gasped. So glad to see her recognized
Doechii’s Mixtape “Alligator Bites Never Heal” was also an amazing release this year!
Oh my gosh Aurora mentioned!! I’ve been a fan of her for so long, super happy she’s getting recognition for how awesome her music is
As much as I'm loving the daily content, and also someone that has to work 7 days a week a day, don't burn yourself out bro, would be a big loss for us
IKR preachers daughter is probably one of my favorite albums of all time, im so excited for perverts😭
her concert was fr a religious experience for me...
It’s definitely my favorite post-Loona release
I'm not even a dedicated fan but the virtual angel mv was incredible, aesthetically and conceptually
WAIT is this why everyone is spelling divine like devine now !??? or am i just losing my mind
@ it’s just how it’s spelt in the album title I believe!
OMG YES STAN LOONA STAN ARTMS!!!! TRULY PEAK. i feel like he wld love the songs on the album
i literally was cheering at the screen when you mentioned aurora !! i was a little caught off guard bc a lot of the artists you mentioned i have never heard of, im definitely adding some of these to my own playlists and spotify likes
I'm happy for the music suggestions!
vultures 1 not even the worst kanye album from this year
VULTURES 2 was so ass fr
frrrr like cmon d’angelo at least do some research my god 🙄🙄
i know right. Vultures 2 was worse, i'd also say C,XOXO and 143 were worse than Vultures 1
@@EntrEsprit they’re all equally bad and try hard. Anyone that doesn’t agree is glazing
for him to call Ye repeating the beginning sample as “bad writing” kinda dumb on his part too
YOOO TRACEY BRAKES, JANE REMOVER AND MAG BAY MENTIONED ‼️‼️‼️ imaginal disk is prob like my second fav album of this year but i think porter bias wins out this year and i think SMILE! :D has gotta be AOTY.. if u wanna hear more stuff like jane remover and tracey i would HIIIGHLY reccomend underscore’s “wallsocket” if you haven’t listened already!! the production is so dripping with detail and it’s so kinetic and addictive, and the story in the album is soo compelling and explores a lot of underrepresented themes in a super interesting way (like shout out uncanny long arms which actually has jane remover on it lmao, it’s about gender dysphasia thru the lens of body horror, great stuff.)
and of course gotta reccomend SMILE! :D by porter robinson if you haven’t listened. porter became my fav artist in the world this year and this album is what cemented that for me, genuinely amazing production and a non stop flow of incredibly 2000s era pop rock / indietronica vibes.. genuinely incredible album
wait porter robinson did drop a new album i need 2 check that out
@ YEA HE DID ?? ITS BANGER GO LISTEN RN
smile is prob my top album this year and wallsocket is 2023's!!! both albums are so intensely unrelatable to me (apart from maybe Is There Really No Happiness and Duhhhhh) but both have remained ON ROTATION since their releases!!! bitch i AM taylor swift!!!
HOW DID I NOT KNOW AURORA CAME OUT WITH A NEW ALBUM THIS YEAR!?
no cuz we have such similar taste in many regards bless your entire being for making a playlist of this.
My actual music taste that i’d say is the kind i actually really vibe to is kinda whimsical escapism music if that makes sense???? here’s some artists id recommend since i love yapping about music lol:
- MADILYN MEI!!! she’s gotta be my favorite of all time aaand she’s one of my main musical inspirations for my own art and i guess shes like- bedroom indie pop with like a fantasy folk twist if that makes sense????? just really unique amazing music with a bunch of styles but all having the same unique madilyn mei feel. She released an ep called “the bard” this year and in 2025 i cant WAIT for her next album ;o;
- Sparkbird/Stephan Nance (they release music under both names) aaand they released quite a few singles this year and they’re all beautiful and amazing for just… daydreaming and imagining cool characters. They also use a lot of bird imagery which i personally rlly like as a birder myself ‼️
aaaand Rabbitology is SUPER underrated. released a bunch of singles this year- she kinda makes this fantasy horror kinda fairycore music that’s honestly really a vibe that does deal with touchy topics such as mental health & religious trauma. so great if you kinda want something you can let your emotions out to while also feeling like a cool little forest goblin
- of course, Yaelokre (im sure you guys have heard of them if you’ve been on the internet long enough)- aside from the kinda wild fanbase, i’d say listen to them!! yaelokre/keath is SUPER talented. they’re one person who’s created four characters and does the voices for each of them in the songs with a super magical sounding folky indie vibe that actually tells super interesting stories if you listen to the lyrics! this year they put out two eps called hayfields and songs of origin as well as the song “harpy hare” that everyone knows lol. aaaanyways i think this is it :p
(i didn’t expect to yap this much holy hecc)
00:10 That reminded me that you should really put these on Spotify, if you happen to post tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that and
the fact that you like glaive paramore and jane remover really really makes me think you’d like underscores’ latest album from last year, wallsocket. it’s really really good hyperpop/folk/rock and i was half-expecting it to be on your 2023 honorable mentions, you should really check it out if you haven’t already :)
Returning to this video after listening to all of your recommendations...
Thank you D'Angelo these are going on repeat INSTANTLY
my favourite album of this year would either be "what a devastating turn of events" by rachel chinouriri or "prelude to ecstasy" by the last dinner party. i think if anyone likes the recommendations d'angelo mentioned in this video, they'd also like these albums!
love rachel chinouriri!!
THE LAST DINNER PARTY MENTIONED???
Hit Me Hard And Soft, & Empathogen are great!
What Happened To The Heart? is my favorite! ::)
i was actually hoping Aurora’s album would show
up somewhere but i was still surprised when it did! ::D
Aurora being on there tells me everything about your music taste, absolutely immaculate
JANE GANG LETS GOOOO also yes the tracey brakes album is so insane it deserves so much more attention! So glad you included it
Thanks for the picks. With the life I'm living, it's become very hard to keep up with good, new music, so I appreciate your takes.
paramore always deserves their flowers. this is why is a gift
My top 5:
1. I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU - JPEGMAFIA (masterpiece)
2. CHROMAKOPIA - Tyler (basic but it's so good, Tyler's Mr Morale)
3. SCRAPYARD - Quadeca (could be number 2, very emotional, beautiful and versitile)
4. Imaginal Disk - Magdalena Bay (the same reasoning as D'Angelo)
FLO has been coming out with absolute banger after banger and I'm ridiculously excited for the album (Think Different all the way to Mary is an insaneeee run)
- DEIRA by Saint Levant > (Allah Yihmeeki goes rlly hard)
- If My Jeans Could Talk by Kyle Dion > (all of it. hes my favourite artist)
- MINISERIES 2 by Sumin & Slom > (GOODBYE !!!!)
- P.O.P. by Marina Satti > (Ah Thalassa tore my heart out)
- pawwwfect! by lil hero > (2023 release but its really good)
lucky daye mentioned 🔥🔥🔥💯💯
SUMINNNNN
I LOVE THEIR MINISERIES
sumin & slom's collab literally have the best chemistry
didn't expect aurora to be at the top of your list!! I love her vibe but I only like some of her songs from previous albums... I'll give her new lp a chance :D
