  • If you’re planning to travel between Sacramento and surrounding communities, and the San Francisco Bay Area, enjoy this video to see what the Capitol Corridor trains have to offer. There are 11 round trips daily offered on trains that feature comfortable accommodations and a café service. Each of these is synchronized with a bus connection from Emeryville to San Francisco downtown, providing an easy way to skip the car and enjoy a day or a getaway weekend in the city.
The cost of our trip was $41 for two traveling together. That’s about 16 cents per mile, or 10 cents per kilometer, which is a fabulous deal. I highly recommend the Capitol Corridor services.
NOTE: As a viewer pointed out, an incorrect mention is made in this video of the F59PHI locomotive as a Caltrain loco. I meant to say Caltrans, of course.

Rode that train when I was like 4 and my grandpa videoed it and it's on DVD so I never forget

I'm glad to hear about your great memories. Our trip was very enjoyable, and I'm glad to have made this video for others to see and, hopefully, experience this service for themselves.

Very good video with lots of information for travelers who may never have taken the Capital Corridor with an Amtrak bus connection.

Thank you! I try to strike a balance between enough and too much information, so that the video is informative, yet enjoyable to watch.
I also have a future video coming of the Capitol Corridor service from San Jose back to Auburn, which will provide some additional information and content on this useful and pleasant operation.

Excellent trip report & information. Definitely intend using the Capitol Corridor train to get to Sacramento & visit the Railroad Museum.

Thank you! As far as US Intercity train travel goes, this is quite a nice experience. I've traveled these Capitol Corridor trains more than a few times, and have watched the ridership increase over the years. I'm looking forward to an equipment upgrade, whenever that'll be, and hope that either the refurbished existing cars, or new trains will bring the service a step closer to a world standard.

I think we are talking about Caltrans. Because the F59PHI has nothing to do with caltrain

Yes, you are right. On this particular weekend, we also traveled on the Caltrain from San Francisco to San Jose, and this is what happens when one works on two videos at a time. :-)
Thanks for the correction, and I hope that you enjoyed the rest of the video.

Meanwhile, correct me if I'm wrong in assuming that Siemens Venture stock is also being constructed for the Capital Corridor, San Joaquin and Pacific Surfliner services to replace the bilevel California Coaches ... and I've suggested to Amtrak that such might want to be rebuilt and reassigned for possible backup on Midwestern services out of Chicago during heavy travel periods as may otherwise tax the capacity of Siemens Venture stock

Well, I don't know what plans Amtrak has for the Venture fleet, but it would be nice to have new cars operate on the California trains. And I do hope that the existing bi-level California Cars will get a refurbishment and will remain with Amtrak here, or in other regions. I'm just not sure, if the clearances are adequate for such a large car on some services out of Chicago.

Yes, the accessible restroom is truly huge in these cars. Maybe the airlines could learn something from Caltrans: the restrooms in the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft are smaller than the old-style phone booths. 😊

I road this for years from Auburn the platform is terrible in the rain and wind when the built it there was supposed to be a decent depot but the ridership isnt that great even over the years

If you ride the Capitol Corridor from Auburn once in a while, then that "station" is good enough, but, yeah, if you use it a lot, it would be nice to have something more substantial.
