    Devdas introduced Shreya Ghoshal as a Bollywood playback singer. She was the voice of Paro/Parvati (Aishwarya Rai) and she was nearly 16 yrs old when she recorded her first song Bairi Piya, for which she also won a national award. Her vocals hv been used in 5 different songs from the album. Shreya was discovered by SLB's mother when she saw her performing in a reality show and soon after that shreya was on board for devdas. And almost every SLB film after devdas has atleast one SG song in it and believe me each and every song is a bomb✨💖

    If you are doing 2000s you should listen to the songs of VEER ZAARA, almost all the songs of VEER ZAARA, actually even if you are not doing 2000s you should listen to this one , it has one of greatest and unique songs ever..... The second movie I would recommend is RANG DE BASANTI, though it's totally on the opposite poles of VEER ZAARA, it is really worth it..

    I am really happy you picked my recommendation for the song from Zakhm. ❤️
    Context about the song: The man and the woman were not formally married and the child is their illegitimate child. Since the society doesn't accept their relationship (due to different religions), the father had to marry someone else. This is the first time they are meeting after that, thanks to the orchestration of the child who wanted his parents to be together. The song portrays the anxiety and urge of meeting your lover after so long, as her anger at him slowly fades away.

  • @scientia.veritas
    @scientia.veritas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    More information:
    1. Glad you pointed that literally all requests said "any song from Aashiqui" cos that's how it is. That album was a phenomenon. It was rare for a film made on such low budget and with unknown debutant actors to be such a huge success - and the music was the driving factor behind it. In fact, it was supposed to be just a music album, but later Mahesh Bhatt (the producer) decided that making it a film would be more feasible.
    2. The influence for Maar Dala and other similar songs in Bhansali's films (like Bajirao Mastani and Padmavat) come from the courtesan culture in mediaeval India. Royal courts had huge halls where the music artists and dancers would perform for the king. By early 20th century (where Devdas is set) this had evolved into private establishments where rich patrons would visit to watch the performance. It was like European opera, except it also had dance apart from the singing and orchestra.
    3. In general, Bollywood was always a decade behind western music in terms of trends. So you would see the "disco" songs in late 80s influenced by the equivalent songs from the 70s, and the percussion and electrical instrumentations of the 90s appear in early-to-mid 2000s songs.

    Alka Yaginik was on fire in the 90's. The music composers really new how to amplify the charm in her voice. I think she fared better in more upbeat and item number songs in the 00's. The 2000's was a weird era for her, its mostly due to the industry's direction in more whimsical melodious songs that she was mainly "type casted". As a singer she always killed it.

    actually, the "maare dala" song is about a courtesan played by Madhuri Dixit in the red light district asking/ begging for the love of sharuck khan's character (Dev) who is a rich land owner's son, you can see him look out with tears watching a procession on the bridge near the end and that procession reminds him of the bridal procession of his true love and childhood friend played by Aishwarya Rai. He went there to waste away in alcoholism and entertainment in order to rid of his pain. He couldn't marry his love because his father didn't approve of Paro's (aishwarya rai) status, coming from a family of entertainers and classical arts house, Paro's mum was humiliated by the things that Dev's parents said and promised to marry her daughter to a wealthier man with higher status and someone who owned more land then Dev and his family. Paro sees that he doesn't want to go against his parents especially his father for her or elope and marry her and accepts her mother's decision in anger. it's a love triangle that ends in tragedy. anyway, I would like it if you would react to the song "Bairi Piya" from the same movie. it's such an underrated hidden gem that most people don't pay attention to. I think you would really enjoy the vocals and musicality of it a lot. I also recommend songs from "Veer Zara" it has so many amazing songs.

    This was such an amazing collection (except the outro :P)!! 😍🙌👏Bichchoo means a scorpion in Hindi :P Really excited for you to discover more of Kavita Krishnamurthy - the singer of the last song from Devdas. She and Alka Yagnick were the predominant forces of 90s. Shreya & Sunidhi sort of symbolically gradually replaced each one of them respectively in 200s and 2010s. The song you loved the most - Gali mai ek chand nikla, is so heartbreaking! That movie is called Zakhm and the story is absolutely heartbreaking. Have you guys already reacted to Ghoomar from Padmavat in one of your Friday streams? Otherwise I can't figure out what's taken you so long to get to it!!! Also, Happy birthday Efra!

    The dancers from the song yeh ishq (the first song) are of Tibetan culture. Tibet has been an independent country until in 1959 it was forcefully annexed by Chinese communist government leaving Tibetan with no option but to flee to neighbouring country India. Me being the 2nd generation born and raised here in India is a proud Tibetan by blood. Our culture is rich diverse and hopefully it will be preserved for generations to come.

    The epic scenes are reminiscent of the period of development of Kathak (one of the 8 major classical types of Indian dance, dating from atleast 500CE, but possibly as old as 500BCE) It's focus on story telling gave it the prominence as one of the four royal forms of entertainment (others being, Poetry, Singing, and Martial Arts) in the courts of the Moghul Emperors-because of which, Kathak is the only classical Indian dance to have absorbed Islamic elements in its presentation and story telling. Kathak is also closely tied to Northern classical music. Madhuri Dixit, the main dancer in "Maar Dalaa" began her journey in Indian Classical Dance at the age of 3 and presented her dance on stage at the age of 8. She started her training under the tutelage of Kathak Maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj Ji.

    1:42:02 Mujra is a dance performance by women in a format that emerged during Mughal rule in India, where the elite class and local rulers like the nawabs of the Indian society (often connected to the Mughal emperor's court) used to frequent courtesans for their entertainment.
    It combines elements of the native classical Kathak dance with native music including thumris and ghazals. It also includes poems from other Mughal periods like the emperors from Akbar to Bahadur Shah Zafar's ruling periods.[1] Mujra was traditionally performed at mehfils and in special houses called kothas. During Mughal rule in the subcontinent, in places such as Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, the tradition of performing mujra was a family art and often passed down from mother to daughter.

    Yesss I friggin LOVE that your finally doing more early Bollywood. I have personally stopped watching Bollywood for 7 years now. I just love the lovely, sweet, seduction that they can showcase in early Bollywood it's just something no other industry could do. So much emotion always I think because they couldn't add kiss+ scenes the songs where the raunchy moment was a neck kiss and getting stuck in the rain was the time when the relationship progressed. That takes extra effort to show that much emotion and progression in both acting, song creation, script+

I genuinely love watching your reactions because you have sound technical knowledge of music but at the same time, it doesn't stop you from enjoying the true meaning, the true feeling behind a song...often, I've seen you hit the nail on the head with what a particular song means even before you've read the lyrics. Kudos!
