Big Block Crown and VK56 Hakosuka Hit the Drag Strip!

- In this episode of The Skid Factory we load the Big Block Crown up and head to Willowbank Raceway for its maiden run down the 1/8 mile drag strip.
The Crown's Big Block Chev doesn't disappoint but getting the power to the track proves to be difficult.
The Hako also makes a surprise appearance and Gav pilots it down the strip with constant improvements.
Thanks to Kye from @knightfamilymotorsport keeping a watchful eye on the cars and the Haltech ecu data logging to maximise the traction down the strip.

Seeing the crown and hako line up together is killer.
The Hako sounds so good flying down the strip, Al definitely got the hang of it too.
If Gavin in the Hako would work on his reaction time, it would be truly impressive.
Reaction time has no bearing on the time slip or MPH.
@@Watchyn_Yarwood I've noticed a lot of the guys take their time, especially when they have a turbo to spool up. Have a look at Benny driving his cresta (Benny's Custom Works)

@@theskidfactory Ok, so MPH is what you are shooting for. In a drag race, you race against another vehicle. If you are drag racing, reaction time is a very big deal. If you are just going for MPH, then yes, you're correct.

It goes without saying, but the Crown needs major suspension changes if Al wants to get even half of the engine's potential out of it at the drag strip. Yowza. Ran beautifully, though!

its not meant to be a drag car, but a stgreet car/daily (should he want to) driver, as i understand it, BUT one that COULD hold its own at the drags, should the desire arise
@@petelattimer6808 the crown needs to come to the US for rocky mountain race week or such. drag and drive events would be great. just needs a trailer hitch for spares.

Throw a stabilizer/swaybar on the Crowns 4 link and I bet that helps out a good bit given how much the chassis is rolling under load.
and a heap bigger rear tyre wouldn't hurt.......
@@darrindouglas1doesn’t need it. Needs anti roll bar and suspension with adjustable compression/rebound, adjustable valving would be ideal.
QA1 sell a coilover / suspension product called Modshock, people use them for no prep racing on public roads hooking up with more hp than the crown. The driver/car holding the hydraulic lifter LS record for 1/8mile at 4.12secs won’t shut up about how good they are

Al, your car is a freakin' thing of beauty 😍!! You guys did an outstanding job on that thing in every aspect! Planning, taking measures to compromise track times and keeping it a street car, engine planning as well as actually doing the fab work and building the thing! It sounds amazing and I'm sure the camera doesn't do it justice. Outstanding Job! Kudos mate!!
Damnnn, that 2nd run, the torque leaned it onto the drivers rear tire & it STAYED there thru the lights. No doubt, your ''crowning' achievement, gentlemen. It goes as good as it looks, be proud !

Love to see the Crown and Hako on the track! Seems like the crown needs a little suspension travel and a M/T ET Street to get it moving out how it should! Love the crown, my first car (circa 1985) was a 69 crown sedan. Loved it, so comfortable and super reliable.

When it's a little slick like that, there are a couple of trick you can use
1/ use less throttle, you don't HAVE to floor it completely.
2/ start in 2nd gear, it'll take a bunch of torque out of what's getting to the tyres.

8 massive throttles needs a lot of throttle pump and it's a manual so they get used every gear change.
