A 6 footer on fire 80 feet up was my largest. I ended up with the 5 wedges I had with me and a bunch of birch ones cut close by. A 61 Husky with a 28 inch bar did the deed. 40 years ago I still have that saw. Thanks for this post of memories my friend. Big cedar can sure make for an interesting day eh.

The old fashion way to cut was to chap the side where it fall for one third of the trunk, then cut the opposite side starting on the upper part going down toward the chapped area. You guys are great for successfully cutting down the tree, and nobody got hurt, except the chin saw blade. Hopefully you've learned good from this, and do it much better next time. God bless you guys. Watching from Alaska.
My hubby is 70 years old, was a faller for 25 years and he just fell 5 trees together. He watches all your shows. His fellow fallers called him Chief. His birthday is 9-3. He would love it if you called him out😊❤ We are big fans.
Funny thing about the wedges ... in Toba Inlet 1972 at the Weldwood camp, one of the fallers had the misfortune of the tree rocking back hard on his wedge stack, spitting out out a wedge like a hockey puck slap shot into his face.....poor fella lost some teeth that day along with some blood...so yes kids its a real thing and Bjarne has the fix.
Always enjoy watching you deal with some real challenges. A quick foot hold I'll use is just punch a hole in the stump and stick my wedge in it. Tipped at a bit of an angle. The trick I'd like to see is putting those 3 strips of flagging up :) Why not paint? Be safe!!

Your such a huge inspiration to me Bjarne. Id love to do this line of work someday, just working on getting more trigger time under my belt. How did you get into timber falling? Seems real tough to get into without close personal or familial connections .
Go to a sawmill. Tell em ya wanna get on a woods crew. You’ll start snatching and pullin. But in time you’ll have a saw in your hands, limbing and trimming, then bucking and cutting. Gotta put in your time like anything else.
I will have to agree with some of the people. But as a retired climber logger operator. I don't know why they have to cut every big tree down? There are not going to be anymore big trees left. They take so long to get to be that big and they are beautiful to look at too! It's just sad to see them go. They can cut the smaller ones and get the same amount of board feet reguired. Anyway yes I used to cut trees myself. But they don't have to cut everything down and leave the forest's alone. Anyway thanks for sharing this with us and God bless you and your health, because I know what a toll it takes on your body. I've been there and done that
Hey ..did you know about the motion to change Powell (Foul) Rivers name to something indigenous.... of course this is an absolutely necesessay thing to do, and it will only cost taxpayers a few million to register, change signs, letterhead and legal documentation to satisfy WHAT STUPID urge to do so????
That is hard work and dangerous .I don’t think that I ever have seen trees this size and let alone the age. What is going to happen now ? The tree will be cut into shorter pieces and moved down the mountain to the sawmill?
This just kills me watching this. I support the men and women in this industry working to pay their mortgages and raise a family. I get it….but damn. What other technologies are available to build our houses…what materials could be used other than these majestic trees. 🥺🥺🥺
You need to realize that there are over 2 trillion trees on this planet and this type of tree work does absolutely nothing to negatively effect the ecosystem. You’re barking up the wrong tree here. You need to be mad at mass deforestation taking place in places like the Amazon and parts of Australia. Those types of efforts are truly extremely harmful for the area, but not an operation like this. Take that energy and put it where it’s actually needed.
im am just wondering but why would you not cut the heart wood from the under cut first,it would save alot of time ,,,i am not knocking you but just wondering why tho
My local hiking spot in Washington is covered with giant 6ft+ wide stumps, couple that were at least 10ft, not a single big one left standing though. Pretty depressing.

There was probably a good reason why they originally left that one tree! But it's the greed of money that fuels the need to want to cut everything they can reach.
They don’t need massive breeding trees the clones grow way faster creating fibre and oxygen at a much more rapid rate those old growth seeds take a lot longer to become something they can harvest , if you see them left it’s not so they can breed new trees it’s usually a perch tree or water retention area or possibly a bear den

What an amazing day to experience the life of a lumberjack in the BIG Cedar Country!
Freshly sawed cedar is about as good as it gets eh.
Excellent reel footage Bjarne, cripes that blasting rock slug embedded halfway up the Cedar was trippy.
Chur for the real Lumberjacks reel.
Wow that first one didn't want to go, but it managed to save out pretty nice 👍👍
Brilliant job again, Bjarne. Keep making them fall💯🫡💯

I can atest to this, When mine blasted me in the face I needed stitches and some dental work
I got one in the face in Ucluelet, fractured my zygomatic arch , 1981 ,,
did you put sawdust in between the wedges, that can help with the wedges poping back at you
It's really nice to watch a faller who is so deliberate in his movements.

After you cut a block do the have a crew that comes in and paints what to fly out as a lot of the cedar is junk.

I'm guessing the 3 straps are to hold it together when it hits the ground?
Amazing Job Bjarne , I just have to Ask, Do you have Norwegian Family?:)😊
Tell me about the white straps on the tree 🌲
They prevent the log splitting when felled
So how do you get that tree out of the woods? Is their a trail where tractor trailor can back up too right against it?
They use a grapple yarder. Here’s an older video of a grapple yarder.

Does anyone knows why he would put sawdust between the wedges before hitting them ?
Creates extra friction so the wedges don’t pop back out, which cat happens to when doubling up wedges
What does a tree like that weigh?

may you please provide me with an electric saw,and to get them in namibia
