This is why I love NFL Throwback channel because I can watch highlights of Joe Montana vs Terry Bradshaw and Vin Scully doing commentary. Amazing.
The beginning of the 49ers dynasty & the end of the Steelers dynasty.
Do i get to be the one that copy and pastes this comment next?
The end of the first steelers dynasty you mean.
@@hotwheelzvette959the 2000’s Steelers don’t count as a dynasty since they won only won 2 championships in 4 years, which doesn’t really count as a dynasty
@ChiefBlue4298 They made three with iconic players such as big Ben, hines ward, and Troy Polamalu
@@ChiefBlue4298 not to mention Jerome Betts, Heath Miller, and Joey Porter, and James Harrison. Plus there were good but not as iconic players like Mike Wallace, Wille Parker, Ike Taylor, and Lamar Woodley. Plus they would've won four super bowls if not for Mendenhall fumbling and the New England cheatriots stealing our plays.
Ahhh yes, this was a gem. A fortuitous crossroads between legendary eras. Probably the closest we'll ever get to two dynasties clashing against one another. If remember correctly both the Steelers, and 49ers offenses weren't that spectacular in this game, and the defenses dictated the game. Anyway, thanks for uploading! Great to see this in pristine clarity!!!
Oh yeah this game is a true rarity when it comes to iconic dynasties coming against each at such wildly different points in their runs. Steelers at the tail end and 49ers just beginning theirs
@@NFLVaultI Love Your Videos 📸 You Never Disappoint Me And Keep Up The Good Work.
Nice that this game is finally on YT. Not trying to be rude but NFL Throwback also covered the Steelers and 49ers matchup in 1984. That was their only loss for the eventual Super Bowl Champions.
When you gonna do Packers Vikings 1999 the favre game NFL throwback ?
Two top 5 NFL dynasties ever, that's what made this game so epic
A crossroads game between teams that defined one decade and would define another
RIP Vin Scully
You made plenty of iconic NFL moments memorable with your voice
He called quite a few 49er games that season alone
For those that don’t know The Steelers had seen this offense before. Bill Walsh was the offensive coordinator in Cincinnati where he first started using the concepts that became “The West Coast Offense.” The Steelers said that it gave them problems.
Bill Walsh said this was the game that told him his team was good enough to win a championship. Imagine starting three rookies in the secondary & winning a Super Bowl.
Mike Webster, Iconic center. Even spent a few years with my Chiefs. Sad how his life ended . RIP Mike
Ya tragic crazy how a center got cte
A men
Your Chiefs? Cool! You're one of the Hunt's?
@supertaints1710 yea they call me Mike hunt
@@ScumBagInFL sup man ?
This was also a homecoming for Joe Montana as he's a Pennsylvania native, and of course grew up a Steelers fan.
A lot of great legendary players in this game that are sadly no longer with us.
VIN was a NATURAL at calling Football too!!! crazy
What a game, what a legends, what a kind of atmosphere... It was a unbelievable!!!
Thanks for this. So nice to hear Vin Scully call a game and the old school graphics sure bring back memories.
One Dynasty ending and one just beginning.
This game was pretty much the passing of the torch
DB's Lott, Wright, Williamson were rookies - and starters. Montana's footwork was just amazing.
Does anyone remember Dream Bowl II that featured the 1978 Steelers against the 1989 49ers? It was an NFL Films production shown on ESPN around 1990 or 1991. They pulled clips of past 49ers-Steelers games and pretended it was the Dream Bowl. They used a bunch of plays from this game. Mel Blount "won" the game with a pick 6 of Montana in overtime. The '78 Steelers also won Dream Bowl I over the '72 Dolphins on a late field goal. I was fascinated by those make-believe games as a kid.
Yes. Back when ESPN was good. Lol.
I do remember those !! I loved those things they did with the different iconic teams
This was a “changing of the guard” moment in NFL history.
Even though the Steelers weren't as formidable as in years past, they were still a good football team. They lost many nail biters in the early 80s. The aging stars just couldn't close out games anymore.
A rare moment where the past and future dynasties meet.
The end of the Steelers dynasty and the start of the 49ers dynasty
Oh my god it’s really hard to comprehend how long vin scully was announcing
Funny how both teams are meeting on Sunday with similar circumstances and roles reversed.
The 49ers are the powerhouse, having played in the Super Bowl in 2019, and played in the NFC Title game 3 out of 4 years under Kyle Shanahan. Stacked with playmakers on both sides of the ball.
The Steelers are a completely rebuilt squad with a new talented core of young players coming off a very impressive preseason, with many wondering how good they really are. Right out the gate they get to see how they measure up against a contender.
49ers were the team of 80s, while the Steelers were the team of the 70s
real football with great commentators, we'll never have this again
Great highlights from a historically significant game for the Team of the '80s. The only things missing are the incredible game-changing hits that Carlton Williamson made on John Stallworth.
bradshaw had something special for interception. The 49ers' defense was wild.
2 weeks after the 34-7 loss at riverfront. 1981 was a bad year for my steelers. 8-8 isn't bad on the surface, but this team was so much better than that
Joe Montana vs. Bradshaw seems like something that shouldn't have happened but it did. Bradshaw right at the end of his competitiveness, which is a shame, but still cool
Two of the best franchises. It’s a shame that the prime 70s steel curtain couldn’t play against the beast of Joe Montana or Steve Young
Steve Young wasn't on the 49ers until 1987
@@devin26508 I know, but it would’ve been nice. I guess it is very unrealistic compared to montana
All my childhood favs in one game!! Love my Steelers and Loved the 49ers.
The amount of HOFers in this game is absurd.
With hindsight, the 49ers seem like a lesser version of the Brady Pats but somehow the Steelers teams of their prime in the 70s still seem like they could beat most modern teams
Lesser how?
Just impressive with hindsight@@manuginobilisbaldspot424
Depends on which rules they use…1970’s rules or modern rules. While the basic game is still the same, the rules are completely different.
Very true but imagine Swan and Stalworth in the modern game @@travismiller4320

Love these passing of the torch games!
Anyone notice the game guy that commentary this game also did NFC Championship 1981 with the call of “The Catch I”?
That would be Vin Scully
The last time…maybe the only time that the crew who did the conference championship didn’t also do the Super Bowl for the network that had it. In this case, CBS.
Vin Scully was great calling the '81 NFC title game. Never over announced like Joe Buck or used the same unoriginal phrases like Joe Buck and always knew exactly what to say at the right times in the game. A true legend.
This is AWESOME
The Steelers are past their prime years while the 49ers aren’t quite yet
in their prime. But Pitt won their 4th SB only two seasons prior and SF wins their 1st SB at the end of this season.

San Francisco 49ers Against Pittsburgh Steelers From 1981 Last Meeting In 1993 It's So Sad That Pittsburgh Never Wins Super Bowl Championship In 1979 And San Francisco Never Wins Super Bowl Championship In 1989 Thanks For Uploading
@@devin26508 Because Dallas Cowboys Greatest Team Of The Early 90s
What?
It's like watching the entire Hall Of Fame get together for a scrimmage!
Let’s go steelers
Prime 49ers v Prime Steelers would have been epic!
Awesome video
Yeah this was a really interesting game this was Steelers Dynasty going out versus up-and-coming
Montana vs Bradshaw classic 🏈 🔥
dudes lined up outside as offensive linemen. The passing game still at the fetal stage.
Lmao players used the 3pt stance at WR in to the early 90s.
Awesome video.
since cowboys vs giants is snf this week, upload the giants vs cowboys 2014 week 12 obj catch game. sunday night and in new york just like this week
Can't believe it's been almost 9 years since that game I remember watching it live.
Next Year It Will Be 43 Years In The Year Of 2024
Yesssss! Lets forsaken go!!!!!!!!!!
I have two throwback video ideas, Titans vs Saints 1999 and Saints vs Titans 2011
What A Classic Football 🏈 Game
The rise of Montana and the Niners (notably with their young secondaries)...beating a very good Steelers team with a lot of HOFs.
No way the Steelers were winning this game having turned it over 7 times. Especially playing the eventual SB champs for that season. But they still showed signs of the great team they once were and kept the game close. This was entertaining as it displayed the changing of the guard between these two legendary franchises.
We were robbed of Vin Scully doing more football. He called it fantastically and smooth
Montana's mechanics got better with age.
So did Bradys.
R.I.P. Franco
It wasn't until '85 that the Steelers started tanking. From the Super Bowl years up and until that time, they were competitive.
Geeez, I remember watching this on ESPN... Lol
Uncle Joe was throwing picks like it was the thing to do
RIP Vin Scully And Franco Harris
81?
I never watched Bradshaw play, but every time I watch these he has like 3 interceptions. Lucky he had that defense lol
Lott vs steelers
Offside steelers
wow they look just like last years Steelers
Pittsburgh committing 7 turnovers didn't help either....and 2 of them led to 14 points for the 49ers
This was such a great era of NFL, except for the 1982 strike. That was no fun.
The 49ers also ended another dynasty that season. The Dallas Cowboys in the nfc championship
I want 10 uploads a day
My pops Franco Harris
7 turnovers is absolutely brutal
Team of the '70s vs Team of the '80s
@Mark-xl1ze • That 1981 49ers team wasn't the team of the 80's yet....and that 1981 Steelers team was definitely not the team of the 70's. But that 1978 Steelers team would've beaten every 49ers Super Bowl teams of the 80's
Ham. Lambert. Killers.
Joe. Goat. I'll die on that

Steelers beat Patriots. ... teams
The beginning of the second greatest dynasty and the end of the third greatest.
Did Joe Greene play this game
Damn Vin Scully knew how to call a game. He’s everything everyone now a days likes to pretend Pat Summerall was. Good insight, just the right amount of enthusiasm and beautifully spoken. As someone who grew up with football in the 80s and 90s I can tell all the confused youngsters who just hear Summerall as a retro Joe Buck and don’t understand all the praise, you are correct. Summerall always was boring and late to make calls.
Scully was great but to say Pat was not is idiotic. They had two different styles but both great in their own way.
Crazy how the first steelers dynasty was coming to an end, while the niners was just beginning. Now going into week 1 both teams potentially have a dynasty upcoming with Kenny Pickett and Brock Purdy.
Or maybe this comment will age poorly. We'll see what happens.
@@hotwheelzvette959 The last 20 years belonged to Brady. The next 10 (at least) belong to Mahomes
Yay 🎉 They used the correct Niner logo and workdmark!
80s 49ers >>>> 70s Steelers
First View😅 #HereWeGo #Stairwaytoseven
Only 2 dynasties in the NFL
This game proves that the 70s Stillers would have Molly Qerim Whopped the 80s 49ers as they struggled to beat a washed up Steelers team
So the Steelers just false start every play?
