Last year, I found a bass floating on the surface. It was about 7 or 8 inches long and had tried to eat a panfish that was at least 5 inches long. The panfish had raised its spikes on its back and it was stuck in the little bass's mouth. I was able to net the duo and, after a couple of minutes, I was finally able to remove the panfish and threw both of them back in the water. Both floated for a minute or two, then both were able to swim away. I've also had bass that I've caught, and after I removed the lure, tossed the bass back in the water, the bass then immediately jumped back in the boat. This has happened twice in my life so far. 👍🇺🇸
That's crazy! Bass can be gluttons and sometimes it gets the better of them. I've seen the same thing where a 3 lb bass tried to eat a 1.5 lb bluegill. The bluegill survived but the bass did not. I actually have that on video which I think I posted a couple of years ago.
Great video!!! I agree with you on the standing timber maintaining the heat. From what I heard it from others that’s what they say. Stay Safe & God Bless!!!🤠👍🏻
Just crazy that you’re normally a week or two from the prespawn. Us northern anglers have a hard time wrapping our heads around that. Lol. That spoon is something I need to fish way more. Always done well with one, just don’t pick it up enough.
Normally, about this time of year, the bass will start creeping up shallow and begin gorging up on anything they can get. I'm wondering if the extreme cold will have any effect on that.
Most of the deepest water in my lake is almost always empty. There's good structure and plenty of places for them to hold to, but for whatever reason, they avoid those areas.
Sometimes it seems to us like bass have no rhyme or reason for what they do, but if they're drawn to a particular spot, there's always a reason for it.
Thanks for another great video LowBrow. Can't wait for things to warm up here in TN. What type of a fishfinder set up do you have on that little boat to allow you to "see" so much bait and many bass in the timber. I just got a little boat too and am researching options. Thank you!
What are some unusual things you've seen bass do?
I love how you help us think outside the box. The bass aren't always predictable, that's for sure.
Bass have general tendencies but can turn around and do something completely out of left field.

Great video! Everyone always thinks the bass will get as deep as they can when it gets really cold. Thanks for showing us something different!
Bass are always looking for the perfect spot to set up.
Water is frozen under my dock right now but once it unthaws I'll be trying out all your tips.
Spring will be here soon!
I saw bluegill and a few bass under some ice near the bank. There was a culvert flowing nearby.
Sometimes a source of flowing water can warm up the surrounding area and attract fish, even if there is ice.

I have the cheapest fish finder made: a Lowrance Hook 2 4X. It's super-basic but it gets the job done.
I don't know if I'd go out fishing right after a snow storm. The standing timber seems like a good place for bass to group up.
It was crazy how many fish were piled into one small area!
I can't imagine it was a lot of fun running all that water in the freezing cold and a little boat.
It was a bit chilly, lol!
The wood must hold heat like concrete..and provide cover and food too. Deep water alone may not provide all three..heat,food,cover..??
That's a good point.
