I bought the 400 watt panel in mid-April of 2024 and as soon as I got them out of the box; I took them to my backyard and set them up with the kickstand. I was charging my Bluetti AC180 and was pulling in 390 watts. It's a perfect fit for the AC180. I am in Utah.
Nice!! Yea when temps are cooler these were doing really well. But nothing does great in hot temps so be curious when the cool temps come again. Thanks for the feedback 👍🏼
@@johnnysweekends I haven't used them this summer but I was thinking of draining down the AC180 and we will see. It's been hovering around 100 degrees here.
@@florindagonzalez5700 I bought these 10 days ago along with 2 Bluetti AC180's and a 4.4 cu. ft. dc refrigerator and been experimenting with them ever since. In south Florida where it is 91 and set them up facing due south. at 9:30 a.m. sun was still waking up and in the eastern sky but I was pulling 180 watts, but by 11-12 p.m. I was getting 280-310 watts. One unit was at 10% capacity and the other was at 58%. Charged both fully by 3 p.m. Super happy with these panels and the Bluetti units.TEMU had them at $433. Shipped directly from Renogy!! Received in 1 week. Can't beat that price.
I tested my 400watt Renogy solar suit case panel in full sun shine at 80 degrees outside temperature with a 10 Awg. 30 foot Extension cable and it was reading output of 292 watt hours, 32.9 volts and 9.0 amps. It charged my Blue etti from 6 percent to 100 percent in 3 hours 15 minutes for a total of 94 percent charge . The Bluetti I have is the AC 70 P, which is an 864wh battery bank . I do have 2 of these panels to run parallel when I get a bigger power station that can handle the voltage or series on full sunny days . I have seen my panel read at 308 watts with a temperature of 94 degrees before but it was because a luminous cloud amplified the photovoltaic cells. The voltage jumped to 40 volts and amps went to 10 .6 amps
Seems a little on the lower side. How was the angle, even though not adjustable I find 320 most times and even more when angle is more direct. I would definitely like adjustable legs but ease of use is definitely nice.
I saw 440 watts on a cloudy winters day due to the lensing effect of cloud edges. Have only used mine a few times, but have been very impressed with their performance.
@@rustymac40 Ditto for us too. We have a Winnebago Navion motorhome. 440 Watts is it issue storage. 220 fits the bill They fit nicely behind the driver's seat
I’ll gladly swap no adjustment for ease of use. Super quick set up and take down. Best I’ve found. I can always lay it on something and the angle is kinda optimal for spring and fall Summer just go pretty flat
@@johnnysweekends Yeah, that's true. And it is true that usually you just sort of set them out and forget it and let it charge because constantly trying to adjust the angle multiple times a day can be a hassle. Someone should however come out with hard foam blocks that you can put under the stands or something to steepen the angle for early mornings and dusk. That could be cool for when the sun is lower in the sky.
Thanks for the review. I'm looking at the 220 w. Would have been really nice to have your test data from Oregon on those too. I understand the 400 met your needs more.
Thanks for the vid... Im really leaning towards these... How far do you put your panels from the charge controller, and what gauge wire are you using from panels to the controller? My usage will be camping, ARRL Field day, other radio events and short power outages at home to power/charge a few small things. Thanks again.
Hey Johnny, I have one Renogy 400W portable suitcase set. And I would like to buy another one, and connect them together. Would you mind showing me how to connect them, along with the extra cables required. Also if you recommend connecting in Series or Parallel. I’m charging a Bluetti power station setup. Many thanks, Peter
You could do either series or parallel Here is a cable amzn.to/4dUDX6S And watch this video it will help a lot th-cam.com/video/RFAYW9NZphU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lHlFOOYMI6iTf4zQ
im new to solar with power banks, do you need a charge controller to plug them into your Ecoflow? or do you just plug them in? i have a Delta 2 max, this panel seems great compared to the ecoflow (more expensive variant)
No the Ecoflow power stations have a solar charge controller built in. Much like any other power station. And you don’t have to use the brands panels. Just don’t go over the input voltage by about 5%
As always Johnny, informative. Helps one make a logical, informed decision on which is best for the individual situation. My problem is the winds at my property. Another, which you pointed out in the vid was the adjustability, but that can be overcome by using blocks or rods. With that being said, are the panels just as durable to take some pokes on the backside?
The back sheet is pretty darn tough. I mean you could stab though it with a knife but it would take some decent force. Normally bumps and bruises though on the back should be fine.
@@johnnysweekends thx. Good to know. Since we were talking about temps yesterday, what are the temp rates on these? Should be about the same as the flex, 180°F?
@land0mancapt.stupid857 the flex panels on the roof are 176F and the portable ones are 185F. But with the flex I dont know how that’s tested for heat. How many hours sustained? 6 hrs…12…24….5 days? 1 month? Either way mine are still rocking…..still the same as it was at 108 several days ago.
@johnnysweekends You mentioned yesterday you will test your panels for any efficiency loss after the summer or after the heat wave is over in a few months? That would be an interesting vid to see as I'm curious too if our flex panels had any 'damage'. I'm sure they'll be ok. As I mentioned yesterday, it seems it was a little more hotter last year and after summer was over they seemed to be putting out what they're rated. But still, I'd like to see results you find. 👍 perhaps you could do the flex and the portable panels to check any loss? Let's see how serious Renogy really is. But I know they're tough.
