  • Today, we celebrate the Commando Formation’s 50th year anniversary! As the masters of stealth, the Commandos specialise in raids, reconnaissance and enemy interdiction via air, land and sea. Over the past 50 years, the Commando Formation has also grown from just thirty-strong to an advanced elite fighting force.
    Let us commemorate this significant milestone for the Commando Formation and to many great years ahead!
    For Honour and Glory!

    Before some neighbours comment, im here to remind u that these are mostly literally 18 to 21 yr conscripts, not regulars. Dont compare2.

    • @williamtay741
      @williamtay741 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Do you think it matters when it come to war? I myself is a conscript but when it really come to fighting a war, conscript or not if you cannot perform then you will still lose in the end. If our conscripts cannot match up to the level of our neighbouring countries then how will we be able to secure a swift and decisive victory? So if our deterrence failed then does it mean we have already lost?

    • @johnwig285
      @johnwig285 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@williamtay741 my point wasnt abt their ability & capability to deliver when it comes to war. My point is simple, want to compare, compare regulars to regulars. dont compare2 expect to see some hardcore near-death trainings like hot potato or crawling on rocks naked which arent even useful to begin with. Some ppl used to ask why tf are they using safety ropes during HCC, why wear specs, like bruhh they are conscripts, u have to adopt a diff approach when it comes to training them and also cant afford any lives lost unlike other militaries which has arnd 5% death rate due to lack of safety and contingency planning.

    • @williamtay741
      @williamtay741 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@johnwig285 I mean if they can achieve the same result with the safety measures in placed in training then sure why not? My point of view is that, you cannot choose to compare regular to regular because like it or not our military is made up mostly of NSFs, unlike our neighbours who's forces compromises of all regulars, professional soldiers. Who have years and years of experience before they promote to the next rank. In time of war when we need to fight, who is activated? NSF and NSmen right? Regulars aren't enough to fight and win a war and when people compares, they are comparing for the purpose of who will win when it comes to show down, 1 force vs another. So if the people who are comparing, thinks our NSF cannot perform up to standard let them be. As long as they can man up and fight like proper soldiers that's all really need. Unless they are not up to standard and can't fight when they are needed to then well our whole objective of having an armed forces will be
      redundant, don't you think? My point is that it does not matter if you are conscript or regular, as a soldier, you fight when your home is in danger. If you fail to have the ability to successfully secure a swift and decisive victory when deterrence fails then that's very worrying. The Army Mission is to be an act of deterrence yes, but "IN THE CASE THAT DETERRENCE FAILS TO SECURE A SWIFT AND DECISIVE VICTORY OVER THE AGGRESSOR". So if we can't up hold our mission because most of us are conscripts then our army has already failed the mission we have set out. Do you understand what I mean?

    • @williamtay741
      @williamtay741 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johnwig285 We cannot hold ourselves to the standard we are comfortable with just because we are conscripts. Because what's the point if the standards we are comfortable with turns out to be ineffective when it comes to executing our mission, to secure a swift and decisive victory over the aggressor? Just because we are conscripts do you think the enemy will lower then standard and go easy on us? Nah, they will annihilate and humiliate our dead bodies. This is what war means and that is what is required of a soldier. Conscript or not, soldiers first and foremost.

    • @noproblematallmate
      @noproblematallmate 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@williamtay741 you look down too much on conscripts and how people can perform when called upon. How many regular soldiers can one country support? With NSF and NSmen, we can win easily by numbers of readily activated force.
      On top of that, SG can easily win by airforce and long range weapons. Ground forces are merely a force to control and to take care of things after the first victory is secured.

The most dramatic was when Malaysia's Commandos invaded Singapore high security air missiles base in Bukit Batok overlooking the Straits of Johore and pasted Malaysian stamps on the missiles and replaced the Singapore flag on the Commanding officer's table with the Malaysian flag. Several Singapore officers resigned or were reassigned or demoted. This is based on true incident happened but was not formally published!
