My silly way to remember the relationships: PTT - play table tennis (you play table tennis inside = intrinsic). Its heparIN PT - play tennis (you play tennis outside = extrinsic) By deduction warfarin is here.
You can remember what drug is for which pathway by thinking of the alphabet. H for heparin is followed by I for intrinsic, W for warfarin is followed by X for eXtrinsic. (Heparin=Intrinsic; Warfarin=eXtrinsic). I just came up with this after watching your video, thanks so much!
I always remember that PTT is affected by Heparin, because PTT has two "ts" next to each other (like tt, or TT) which resemble the capital letter "H" although it depends on your font/handwriting. This might just work for my brain only, but hopefully it helps others! :)
I remember heparin=PTT and warfarin-PT by remembering to make 10 letters for both so... it goes like this H E P A R I N ( P T T ) = 10 letters W A R F A R I N ( P T ) = 10 letters
Thank God for this video!!! If you go to page 383 of the Hematology and Oncology chapter in the First Aid for USMLE 2016 and look at the coagulation cascade! Thanks to this video it made it way much easier to deal with. Gracias!
I really like this mnemonic, but my OCD struggles with the final picture because the last step of the common pathway is Fibrinogen (I) to Fibrin (Ia). So I add "1" to the bottom of the common pathway and said that it stands for "One common math problem (pathway)".
My professor had this mnemonic which actually helped bc I love Brad Pitt haha (brad) PiTT -- intrinsic pathway, PTT (I love) PeTs -- extrinsic pathway, PT Hope that helps!
PT (physical education teacher) is always OUTside. He is FAST and always ready for the WAR! PT → OUT (extrinsic pathway) → FAST (fast reaction) → WAR (warfarin)
a great way to remember is we measure INR aka PT for warfarin -> warfarin blocks formation of VitK dep factors --> 2 7 9 and 10 --> 7 has the shortest half life and degrades first = easy way to check warfarin levels bc its the first factor to go
Heparin is already present in our physiological system in mast cells but inactive anticoagulant ,,,so it's present inside= Intrinsic and oppsite to it warfarin = extrensic
thanks from delhi and keep up the great work....I finally cud cram it up. I remember like this WET your PET for 7SEX ( W=WARFARIN EX =EXTRINSIC 7=FACTOR7 IN EXTRINSIC PATHWAY ) Dr Amit
Is there any chance you can do a video on cytokines? It would be great to get an explanation and some mnemonics for which cytokines are used in which responses. Thanks!
I've a question. As warfarin blocks vit K dependent factors like 2,7,9 and 10, As factor 9 is part of the intrinsic pathway so why does PTT not affected by warfarin?
I'm gonna use this. Thanks!! But what about factors I, III, and XIII? I'm gonna have to just memorize those, i guess. This makes it easier though. Also worth mentioning factor IV, which is present all over the place in the whole cascade.
I hv to tell you that this video confuses most of clinicians who memorized the cascade the way it is. 1st: memorize the cascade as it is with Roman numerals 2nd: remember that 2+7->9->10 that’s Warfarin which is given externally (PO) and thus affect the extrinsic pathway more (PT) 3rd: Heparin is given IV, that’s intrinsic and affects F XII -> F XI -> F IX 4th: heparin works faster (IV), but warfarin works way slower (PO) Pls remember that in clinical practice we rarely use either and now we use other oral inhibitors (NOACS) and SQ inhibitors (LMWH etc), which were not discussed here at all. In summary this video is way confusing and way way way out of date. Pls replace it.

Remember War is Extrinsic .... we don't go to war intrinsically...
or I (Intrinsic) comes after H (Heparin)in the alphabet
Amazing thank you
Thank you!!
But warfarIN could work with INtrinsic too... so not ideal to solely rely on this mnemonic

tnx
good one thank you
thank u
Great thinking. Thx
Thanks
Missing factors
Factor 1 = Fibrinogen
Factor 3 = thromboplastin
Factor 4 = Calcium
Factor 13 = Fibrin stabilizing factor

Cool!
Nice way of remembering......
another good way to remember it is PT = playing tennis (outdoors -> extrinsic) and PTT = playing table tennis (indoors -> intrinsic)
@@yankzaddict02 this is gold! thank you
warfarin will affect both extrinsic pathway and common pathway...remember Vit K dependent factors 2,7,9 and 10
and protein c. you are hypercoagulable on initiating warfarin.
And intrinsic?
@@rickkarsan4491 also protein S :)
I remember warfarin with extrinsic b/c "To WAR with your EX"
WAR= warfarin EX= extrinsic
I remember heparin=PTT and warfarin-PT by remembering to make 10 letters for both so... it goes like this
H E P A R I N ( P T T ) = 10 letters
W A R F A R I N ( P T ) = 10 letters
And he said there's really no good way to remember this. Your memory aid is great! Thank you!!
Thank God for this video!!! If you go to page 383 of the Hematology and Oncology chapter in the First Aid for USMLE 2016 and look at the coagulation cascade! Thanks to this video it made it way much easier to deal with. Gracias!
Write a capital I ( the one with bars on the either end of the line) and turn it 90 degrees; it becomes H.
I for intrinsic; and H for Heparin.

HINT : HEPARIN INTRINSIC PATHWAY
WEPT: WARFARIN EXTRINSIC PATHWAY
HOPE THIS CAN HELP YOU REMEMBER .
Lol I expected that 'HOPE' was also going to be a mnemonic. 😅😂
you should really teach this stuff part time. your really good at explaining material
two times five that's 10, minus 1 that's 9 quick maffs.
ya dun know.
PT (physical education teacher) is always OUTside. He is FAST and always ready for the WAR!

I like to remember that in WAR(farin) you need a PT (physical therapist)
WEPT: Warfarin Extrinsic PT
E (for extrinsic) put on it's side makes a W (for warfarin).
Thank you so much. Please consider making a video on Anticoagulants as a follow up to this.
(warfarin)War outside-extrinsic
(Heparin )Hepatic inside body -intrinsic
This was just shared to me:
PeT: PT is for Extrinsic
PiTT: PTT is for intrinsic
Heparin is already present in our physiological system in mast cells but inactive anticoagulant ,,,so it's present inside= Intrinsic and oppsite to it warfarin = extrensic
This video is a a life saviour & comment section is another saviour 😂
We've gotta get your channel more subscribers!!
I agree!! Please share :) Thanks
خططططييييررررر ، مبدع والله ✨✨✨
This is abso-freaking-lutely amazing ❤
Heparin = Help comes from inside (Intrinsic)
Warfarin = War comes from outside (Extrinsic)
thanks from delhi and keep up the great work....I finally cud cram it up.
I remember like this
WET your PET for 7SEX ( W=WARFARIN EX =EXTRINSIC 7=FACTOR7 IN EXTRINSIC PATHWAY )
Dr Amit
PT is influenced by coagulation system, APTT is not. An exception is vWD.
Dr. Sattar has a great pnemonic. on the floor you refer to Heparin as HEP. 3 letters. like PTT
ive never heard it referred to as Hep, but yeah that definitely works if you can envision/hear it like that in your brain
Remember War is Extrinsic .... we don't go to war intrinsically...
But then there is the civil war... lol
😂😂
Nice 👍
OMG this video is great, so helpful!!! Keep them coming.

I have one.. search the channel :)
Thank you so much! Can't believe I didn't see that initially @@DirtyMedicine
Please keep making more video.. you are a lifesaver😍
Superb.... I've always struggled with this topic.... Thank u so so much❤

How can you remember a nemonic that makes no sense but not the actual coagulation cascade information!
I'm gonna use this. Thanks!! But what about factors I, III, and XIII? I'm gonna have to just memorize those, i guess. This makes it easier though. Also worth mentioning factor IV, which is present all over the place in the whole cascade.
Very good video! Thank you.
Bless you man❤
Play tennis outside for PT for extrinsic and play table tennis inside for PTT for intrinsic ;)
nice,! I recomend that after watching the video get a pen, a paper and try to do it on your own
You made my day. Thank you!
Note : calcium used in most of step except first two step ( calcium = factor 4 IV) thx❤
This video is awesome! Thank you!
This is genius!! Thank you soo much! :))

HePARin = PARty INside, WARFARin = warfare outside
i learned a lot! thank you
Really having trouble memorizing glycogen and lysosomal diseases, Please share mnemonics for those. Thanks
I have a video for Lysosomal Storage Diseases already. Link: th-cam.com/video/7udUG8KkN_E/w-d-xo.html
Alright, a few pathway disorder (ie. galatosemia) mnemonics would be nice
Awesome !
just awesome
You are a genius
pneumonic or mnemonic?
You are awesome, thank you
Thank you, nicely done.
Summary from 6:05
Heparin intrinsic because administred IN the body (s/c or i/v), warfarin extrinsic because administred from OUTSIDE the body (oral) ;)
Sometimes, it's just better to rote memorize things. IMO
Why he didn’t mention factor XIII ?
holy damn. this is amazing
You saved my life
H is HIGH UP there for Heparin.
You are the best
Did you delete some videos ?!
Mannn...
I love 10 dollars rules❤
thank you
most helpful...
amazing
brilliant!
Thank you soo much sir😊
Brilliant
I like the video even before watching it. I trust you lol
When I'm learning coagulation cascade I'm "IN Hell" and I need "EXtra WAter". Heparin for intrinsic and Warfarin for extrinsic
This is the bestttttttttttt
genious
