    struggled with this for no less than an hour before finding your video! thank you so much! I got my massive wingback chair through an even smaller door than yours on my RV. IT WORKS! I did have to play this on .75 speed to see that second move there though. Thanks for getting us out of a jam!

    I tried this for at least an hour, but still couldn't get it thru the den's doorway by myself. But THEN.. I finally figured it out! 😃 Ok First, I removed the den's door (its Very Easy and it takes less than 1 minute) Then, I laid the chair down sideways, reclined it and *Voilà* easily maneuvered it thru.. 👍😉

      @kimdyson4034  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fingers crossed for you. I was getting my chair out of a room so I knew it had got in somehow, so there had to be a way to get it out in one piece. The reverse may not always be true.

  • @azranariff
    @azranariff 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is a great help! Can you provide the measurements of the chair and your door?

    • @kimdyson4034
      @kimdyson4034  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Door 29”
      Chair
      30” wide (wings & arms)
      30” front to back
      10” floor to underside (legs)
      26” floor to top of arms *
      42” floor to top of wings
      Technique should work for chair of almost any reasonable width but is limited by the 26” floor to top of arms and any other dimension approaching door width after you’ve wiggled the first leg through. You don’t really need a 3d model…you could just cut out a silhouette of the side view of the chair from card and practice wiggling that through your actual door.

    Aaargh! So close! We have no space on the left of the door. It is just about flush with the wall on both sides on the left (inside and out). Right side of the door is tight on the outside and fine on the inside. Any ideas? Really would appreciate help please.

      I didn’t keep my cardboard model to play around with, so can only recommend that you try the same process. Take a photo of your chair side on. Print it off at a size you can reasonably represent your particular problem ( say width of chair about 6” or 150mm), then trace on stiff card or poster board. Build the rest of the chair, door frame, and in your case the walls to the same scale. Then try and thread it through. (Took me about an hour, but I’d wasted a couple of hours struggling with the real chair, and since the leg didn’t unscrew was about to saw a couple off). In case you are not used to drawing to scale:
      Model door width=
      Model chair width x
      Measured real door width /
      Measured real chair width.
      (Similar for scaled wall locations relative to door frame).
      If it can be done at all I expect it will only work if the back of the chair to the wall(s) closest to the door frame.
      Good luck. If it works maybe post your own video and we can post links to each other.

    Can you provide me with the measurements of the chair and measurements of the door. This will help me decide whether my chair will fit through thank you

    • @kimdyson4034
      @kimdyson4034  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chair 30”. Door 29”. May cope with bigger difference than 1”, since it didn’t feel tight when we followed the sequence. Good luck. If you have luck with bigger difference please post.

    • @kimdyson4034
      @kimdyson4034  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Realized it’s not the width of the chair that set the limit. Look at the position on the video once it’s successfully half way through the doorframe. The limit is for getting through is set by the distance from the back leg to a straight line between the top of the chair back and the front edge of the chair with the seat cushion removed if possible. For my chair that distance was 26” compared to 29” doorframe. Even if chair had been say 36” wide, provided leg to that line is 26” it would work.

    Can u do this with no feet?

    • @kimdyson4034
      @kimdyson4034  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The technique may help a bit, but with my chair the non removable legs/feet were the problem so maneuvering per video made a useful difference. If you’ve been able to remove the legs/feet threading as shown may help with the wing back areas. If you’re fed up experimenting with the real chair consider doing what I did. Take a photo of the chair side on then use that silhouette to make a scale model and play with it to see if you can find a way through. Good luck. (Sorry I no longer have my model otherwise I could have cut the feet off to see how much narrower a door it could pass through without them).

  • @walkswithmight

    I think you did more work making the cardboard representation then you would’ve done just moving the chair!

    • @kimdyson4034
      @kimdyson4034  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Walkswith Might: I needed my wife to help me manoevring and after an hour failing to get it through she was struggling to believe it was possible, except for the fact that we had gotten it into the room somehow a few months earlier. It took a couple of hours to photo the chair and trace the outline onto cardboard etc. but once we saw how we’d done it with the model we got it through in minutes. I suspect if we’d just continued to struggle with the real chair one of us would have taken a saw to the legs.
