  • Dealing with a water damaged RV repair in my Toyota motorhome was NOT something I anticipated when I bought it. The over cab bed rot was not easily noticeable, and I only discovered it when I started to paint the interior. RV water damage repair can be very expensive if you take your RV to a repair shop. We chose to DIY this project and saved literally thousands of dollars. (I was quoted over $4k by a business who took it into their shop to do the estimate.) If you can handle power tools, don't be scared to deal with your RV repairs and maintenance yourself and save your money for some amazing travel instead!

    It's always scary to open up camper walls. I'm heading to my brother's in GA next weekend to get new flooring put in my camper. There's a spot in the back that had rotted out from tiny pin holes in the fiberglass, all the way across the back of the camper. Hoping to also get the wall covering put in, and then it's time to decorate!

    • @HoneyandMe
      @HoneyandMe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh! I am glad this is a help! Isn’t it wonderful to have people in your life who can help out with these bigger projects! It was going to cost me literally thousands to have it done in a shop. My husband had been away when I discovered it, but came home in time to volunteer to help. I haven’t had any issues with the floor, and I can’t even point you in the right direction for a Toyota specific fix video. We did replace part of the floor in an older trailer, which we basically tore it the rotted stuff and laid new plywood over the still solid parts. I highly recommend using wood hardener on parts that are beginning to decay, but still in tact. It saved us a lot of work on the trailer we did over this summer. You paint it or spray it on and it is absorbed by the wood and hardens to stronger than the original wood. You can use it around areas that were to far gone to save and then have something substantial to attach new wood to.
      Best of luck with your overcab repairs and the floor. I’d love to know how it turns out for you! You can do it!!-Sue

Do you remember what you used? Thanks again for your videos!!

    • @HoneyandMe
      @HoneyandMe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s great it worked out! The wood gardener I used was the Mini Wax brand one. It’s a yellow labeled metal bottle. I used an empty spray bottle, filled it with the hardener and sprayed the heck out of the wood that was soft and beginning to rot. I saturated it! When it dried it was super hard. Kind of like petrified wood. Good luck with the rest of your RV fix-ups! Hope they allow you to enjoy your RV for years to come!-Sue

      Hi Jason...just seeing this now, sorry. Yes, we could pay to store Honey, but cost is pretty high, as far as I'm concerned, for RV storage where it is under cover. My theory is, these vehicles were meant to be out in the elements and should be able to withstand them. We've now had Honey for 4 years and she is pretty tight as far as the weather goes. This leak occurred prior to my owning her, and I do know the previous owner did store her under a roof, so how it got to be this bad, who knows. It almost seems to be the luck of the draw with these things.

    Hi. Can you tell me exactly where the screw was where water was getting in?

    • @HoneyandMe
      @HoneyandMe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The screw was in the trim above the driver's side on the roof. The trim goes over the corner between the roof and the outside wall. The screw had rusted so much it no longer filled the hole it was in. Those vinyl trim covers don't protect much. A simple little thing like that can do so much damage. We replaced all the trim screws with stainless ones. As well as dipped each screw in sealant before screwing them in. Hope this helps!
