Can you RV in 106 degree weather?

  • After meticulous planning, we completely ditch our itinerary, cancel our existing reservations and drive hard for a few days to escape a heat wave. Our re-entry back into the United States continues to be a bit painful after an epic summer in Canada but we are heading to one of our favorite locations in the United States and we are meeting up with some of the faces we’ve been missing for several months. We always say that missing family and friends is the only really hard part about our lifestyle but it can be really hard. We love when our family flies out to join us along the way! How often do you see family when you’re on the road?
    We found the Airstream to struggle a bit more in the heat than our previous RVs. The worst part about it for us was having to spend a week with all the blinds closed to keep it cool inside. Once the blinds are closed, the Airstream can feel a tad claustrophobic for us and we’ve heard others find it to be cozy. It’s really hard to know until you are just out there in it!

    Thanks for taking us along. Wyoming is on our list for next year. The preview is greatly appreciated.

      We are already missing it again! It’s a very special area with the Tetons and Yellowstone right there. We are excited for you!!

    I have lived in Portland a number of years and I have never seen it in the 100s except of that week. Usually, you have couple days in the 90s and that is the heat wave. Great Vlog of the Tetons.

      What terrible timing we had!!! We absolutely love visiting that area and we are so sad we missed the Sugar Pine Drive-In.

    I love how Jim calls it fuel and Aimee calls it gas. It puts a smile on my face when people driving diesel vehicles say we need to stop and get gas. :)
    I'm hoping you do a review on the Airstream at the end of this years adventure. I love the look and quality of the Airstream but I just watched a video where they complained the seating wasn't comfortable and the shower was very small.

      @lifebetweentheditches1307  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hahaha!!! YES! Seven years ago Jim accidentally put gas in the diesel and our first trip was delayed as a result. Fortunately, he causing his mistake and knew not to turn the truck on which makes all the difference in the repair cost and time! We will absolutely do a full review on the Airstream.
      Always positives and negatives to every RV. We think several things in the Airstream would likely be uncomfortable for taller people. We did find the Airstream to be much more challenging in the heat and we had to keep all the blinds pulled anytime it was into the 80’s.

      @@lifebetweentheditches1307 There are a lot of horror stories of people putting DEF in their fuel tank. That's expensive.
      I'm 6'3" and I think the Airstream might be a little challenging.

      We agree! The seating would most likely feel very low to you. The shower isn’t as small as it seems. In fact, it was one of our top worries prior to purchase. It turned out to be just fine for us but again…..6’3” would surely be tight.

    2 things: 1. Rv park in San Antonio last year, 118* for 4 days. 2. When I hit half a tank I start looking for fuel. I have never in 40 years ever run out of gas because it is a gaint pia!

    I’m assuming your dual A/Cs kept the trailer cool in the 100 degree heat?

      They kept up enough as long as we kept all the blinds pull. That kind of heat was definitely an extreme test! We will say our fifth wheels handled the extreme heat better but we try to avoid camping in those temps. Love the Airstream but they are absolutely hotter in the sun.

      Yes. So sorry to hear that for you. We currently have zero reservations for the first time in 7 years due to a situation in the family but we look forward to getting back on the road as soon as humanly possible. Hope you can as well! 🙏
