    On the influencer discussion, I think it's worth noting that there are two different audiences watching review videos. There are the camera nerds like all of us who find it to be too much when 50 videos drop all at once. Then there's everyone else, who just randomly searches for what camera to buy, months or years later. And if all positive reviews reach those people, for Sony it's still a big win.
    Anyway hope you guys don't take too many weeks off, this pod has been great listening as always 😎

    Really appreciate the honest talk you had about TH-camrs, sponsorships, bias/unbiased reviews and so on. You never hear other TH-camrs talk about this side of the “business”. Hope you stay this way no matter how much growth you get on this podcast channel or your main channels. I know I tend to watch the creators that I find most honest in their videos, and I quickly turn off videos I find biased about the product their are talking about.
    My channel is small, so I only get products from lower end companies, but when I do I make it clear to the companies that my reviews is honest, and if I really don’t like the product I’ve been sent I won’t make a video about it.
    Keep up the good work! Looking forward to see what you make in the future 😊

    • @16Stops

      Absolutely Roger. Josh has already made it “big” on TH-cam so he’s not changing. And for both of us transparency is extremely important.

    This is probably my favourite episode so far, I love how you guys are getting better and better at this type of content! Great topics, I'm still canon camp although all the brands are actually amazing now, looking forward to see what Nikon brings with z8. The part where you talk about the whole influencer economy and problems of sponsored videos are so right to the point. I got an LG monitor form LG did a video although they didn't even ask for it and when I published it I realised how biased the review is. I think from now on I'll try to go Josh route and reduce these type of videos.
    I will say this again here, my favourite Podcast, not just because of the topics, but because you guys are genuine nice People!

    On the topic of brands/creators/sponsorships, I think Gerald Undone approaches it really well. For example he put one out today for the Panasonic s5iix. He disclosed what Panasonic sent him and that the real sponsor for his video was squarespace. I think utilizing the “provided new products” from brands in videos that are sponsored by a completely separate entity can help maintain some amount of objectivity while still being profitable on the work/time you put into making the video.

    So glad to have come across this. Having spent time on team Blackmagic, I actually find Sony's "you get what you were promised at purchase" approach. The features hinted at by BMD that never came to fruition always makes you wonder if you made a mistake in purchasing. At least with Sony, your FOMO is for features that were not on offer at the time you pulled the trigger to buy.

    The C200 was always a weird one because it didn't have 10-bit 422 internally. It was 8-bit 420 or 12-bit RAW. Not sure if that was ever rectified in a firmware but I think that put off a lot of people in what would otherwise have been a killer camera

    • @16Stops
      @16Stops  ปีที่แล้ว

      Pretty sure it’s just the 8bit or 12bit raw

  • @cammackey
    @cammackey ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Another raw good episode guys!
    Regardless of canon or Sony. What’s weird is Fuji put almost all of the same guts into each of their cameras but still limit options depending on price options.. and the buyer understand that if they want more features.. they buy the higher end model. So I don’t get why someone would buy a photo camera and expect it to run as a cinema line. I think there’s a relationship of give and take we have to remember with these companies.
    Unless you’re Panasonic with their S5IIX that’s just crazy good haha.

    • @16Stops
      @16Stops  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Cam!
      That’s very true. The sensor and processor get slapped into a shload of different bodies then they strip or add depending on the line that you wanna go into.

    • @jessejayphotography
      @jessejayphotography ปีที่แล้ว

      It is economy of scale. They have to package multiple products around as little manufactured components as possible. I think the main issue with Sony is their product lines are very muddy. They do a great job with the A7 and A7R but the FX line and the A7S are so muddy it’s ridiculous and it’s their fault!
      Canon does better. And has been doing better with firmware with most of their high end cameras.

    Love the influencer discussion. As a smaller channel, it's interesting and really helpful to hear anyone larger talk about what they experience and how they typically handle things. Particularly, I think the concept of where a creator lies on this "business" and "artist" continuum is a great short cut to think about it. I often worry that less savvy consumers won't always see the nuance. I don't necessarily take issue with a "sponsored review" so long as it's transparent... there's potentially still value there and I treat it as if I'm watching a 10m commercial 😂 I do fully agree that it's not doing a great service for those consumers less familiar with all of the behind the scenes for all the reasons you guys discuss. Especially in the context of YT, tossing in one or two "sponsored reviews" on a channel amongst a ton of otherwise more artistic/unbiased gear vids is dicey.

    • @16Stops
      @16Stops  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately a few bad apples (clearly biased reviews) kind of taints the waters for everyone and now it’s virtually pointless to do a sponsored review.

    • @DanYosua
      @DanYosua ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@16Stops Yeah that makes sense. It would be cool if there was a dedicated spot on the channel "about" tab, similar to a dedicated trailer spot, where a creator could upload a video discussing their general approach to these things if they wanted. There's just a ton of value in hearing people's approach to this in long form and not just a generic one liner in each review.

    Is it just me or is there a complete divide in the camera market? We have camera people that are very much strictly into photography, and say things like “why does anyone even care about a fully articulating screen, I never even use the screen” (which by the way blows my mind) and then everyone else who is used to having a very capable smart phone that does camera and video. So…big surprise, a lot of people don’t want to buy a camera that isn’t excellent at both. I don’t know how many people are in that second group, but to me it seems like the vast majority, and the camera companies need to pay better attention to that I think. On the topic of DJI’s drones, does anyone always want to say DGI instead of DJI? I have to fight it every time. And I really want a drone, but I’m convinced I will crash it almost immediately so I’m afraid to spend the money.

    • @Angelo_Paduraru
      @Angelo_Paduraru ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your first fly with a drone have to be in an empty land, without trees, high hills, buildings and so one. Learn piloting that drone there and after you are familiar with how a drone works, go further.
      Dji drones are almost impossible to crush due to high precision in flight, gps what keep them fixed in one place on the air & obstacles avoidance.
      I did learn in this way but with way worse drones than dji.
      Take your time to learn to fly and then you will be happy with years of fly and no crushes 😊
      I fly drones from 2017 and I have 0 (zero) crushes.
      - the most important in the process of learning fly drones is to respect the right steps to start a drone. Like calibration on every time you start to fly, turn on first the controller then the drone itself, waiting to finish the satellites connection and so on.

    Great discussion. Would have loved to hear about canon’s continuous price cuts to their cinema line. In their mind, I believe they think they are doing something nice but in reality they are punishing their early adopting clients who invest into these high ticket items and end up discouraging anyone to buy a flagship bc soon they drop the price by $5k. That’s a huge reason why I switched to Sony. You don’t see that happening from Sony.

    • @16Stops
      @16Stops  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I’ve already lost like $1300 on my R5C. I know that’s not the high end line but it still sucks. But like with the FX6 you’re getting the same sensor as the FX3 and I guess the same as the ZV-E1 which (at least for me) cheapens The camera. Just two different ways to think about devaluing a product

    Canon all day. If you buy a camera with what it offers at the time of purchase that's a decision you made and should be okay with. If you get bonuses every few months with Firmware that's even more bad ass. Things to look forward to. Not really the case with Sony. I think Sony has great marketing. People are willing to look past short comings for that logo. Can't get mad after the fact.
