Okay, drinking game. Every time our brother says abloy take a shot 🤣😂. I wonder if they make locks for off-road type hitches like the mchitch or others like it.
After a year of owning the hyper hitch it’s definitely held up extremely well. I own several drop hitches that has 2 pins for the ball mount. So I was a little concerned about only having 1 pin for the ball mount. Luckily this hitch is very well built & the 1 pin (with double locking feature) seems to be well built. Also it’s super convenient having the same key lock for both the ball mount & the receiver itself.
I like the look of the Proven Lock. I would be interested in how much rattle or noise it makes when connected to a trailer. Seemed to have a lot of slack. And being it is a single pin that hitch ball part would move up and down with the trailer. especially when towing a empty trailer. Any thoughts?
While fulltiming in a previous life while in Albuquerque my 20 ft enclosed storage trailer was stolen with all my belongings, I now have 2 proven industries locks for my travel trailer and my new storage trailer, these things cannot be removed, I love them, Me and my AR are still looking for the thieves.
I added the PROVEN LOCK on my TT (2 5/16") after my truck was stolen for it's catalytic converter (subsequently recovered & fixed). As you say, it's an impressive piece of engineering and manufacturing and gives a huge sense of protection. I choked on the purchase price, but I've now forgotten that cost and impressed by the protection it provides.
What about the newer Altor lock? Definitely strong that either of these mainly because it’s pretty much grinder proof. At least portable grinder proof unless you have 10 batteries with you.
That SS pin with the Abloy cylinder could have the "small end" ground off with a 4 inch cordless side grinder with 1/16 inch cutting wheel in a matter of a few minutes. The small end needs better protection.
In the wrecking yard we remove locking hitch pins with a 5' pipe. Slide the pipe over the lock end then snap the lock off. I will say that the proven looks a little tougher than most locking hitch pins. As you said a lock is there only to keep honest people honest.
I just got home from installing Ft Knox lock on my travel trailer. I got it with the steel abloy puck lock. I first leaned about it from your channel. Thanks
Two years ago, LPL said this was a lock he would buy. A year ago, in video 953, it took LPL 30 seconds to drill the puck lock open with a simple electric drill because they used 303 stainless for the body instead of the hardened steel on the previous model. I hope LPL will test this latest version to see if they fixed the vulnerability. And before anyone says it, yeah I know, how many criminals are running around with a drill? Actually, the number is very high. Bear in mind it took LPL 30 seconds, yes, 30 seconds to get past this lock. On the other hand, that trailer lock is pretty good. Can it be defeated? Of course it can but a thief would probably look elsewhere for an easier target. Had to come back and add to my original comment. Turns out Proven did change the lock based upon LPL's 30 second demonstration last year of it being drilled open. If you have one of the vulnerable locks, you may want to change it.
I had a tool trailer stolen about 3 years ago and upgraded to a proven industries lock on my new trailer. Even though I thought it was expensive at the time I’m really impressed with the quality And security of the lock.
I agree , the Proven hitch lock is substantial. But what keeps a thief from showing up with his own clip on chans , attaching to trailer and taking off?
The fort knoxlocks as you call it is not a lock. Its a clam shell housing. The insecure Master you have hanging on it is the lock. if you want a good evaluation of the actual locks you should send them to Bosnial Bill and Lockpicking Lawyer. They are both TH-cam contributors an would probably love to evaluate these. Be sure to send the Master Padlock you show on the Ft. Knoxlocks.
someone can still come along with their OWN chains and drag the entire camper/trailer off to a secluded location and bash that finely crafted hitch lock off...... It's all about slowing criminals down, or encouraging them to tackle another target that's easier
Since the hitch has the single pin holding the ball assembly, is there a lot of noise from rattling? Would there be more noise when used on your truck due to the receiver adapter as well?
That was my thought/concern as well. I also feel like it's less secure than 2 pins in the event of some kind of failure, but perhaps I'm being overly cautious.
I really like it, when I had a TT I was looking to get one of those then I went to a 5th wheel I was going to get their lock for the 5th wheel king pin but now I'm using the PullRite Superlite #2600 which is like the AUH, I guess that I can take the PullRite hitch adapter off of my king pin but I like them.
JD, I’m not needing all that “locking” equipment BUT I am looking for a receiver insert (2”) that has two holes for the “pin” that holds it in place. My single pin seems to wear and “now” after a cross country trip so much that I have to hammer it in and out. I’m wondering if there is a simple receiver set up with 2 holes and 2 pins?
Are the cylinders hardened? Any lock you can get to with a drill bit can be opened in seconds if it’s not super hard. You can weld up the biggest baddest piece of steel you want, but if you secure it with a lock cylinder that can be drilled its got a big achillies heal. Your statement that locks keep honest people honest is one I have used for years. People that really want your stuff are not deterred by a lock.
If there's room for your key there's room for my pick....... BUT....... Make your stuff harder to steal than the "other guy" and they will turn to the "other guy" and steal his..... Good stuff....
I just received their pipe shaped tongue lock yesterday. Works fine but the safety chains still present a vulnerability. I'm fabricating a modification to make use of dangling safety chains much more difficult.
Dang 😬 JD, is trailer theft really an issue in Texas? I understand protecting y'all's investment but it really seems like overkill. Call me foolish but I'm not sure if I need to spend the money on this.
@@leeglidewell1473If you lived in the Seattle or Tacoma or Everett or Longview areas, it's rampant. There's a whole Facebook group devoted to helping find missing vehicles and trailers. Ford F250's and 350's are especially vulnerable as well as travel trailers.
I’m no metallurgist but it seems that using only one stainless steel pin in the adjustable hitch vs the normal 2 big bolts is a weak design. I think stainless steel isn’t the strongest steel out there. You’re putting a lot of trust on that one pin. I would like to know the sheer strength of that pin as opposed to that of the normal 2 bolt.
These look real impressive, but the problem is is that all a thief has to do on many trailers is to simply unbolt the hitch off the trailer with a cordless impact and bolt on another one, and drive it away. The sizes are pretty standard. Not knocking your video though...just saying.

That ball mount definitely needs two pins! When trailer lifts up and down on bumps it will beat the hell out of the hitch.
That hyper hitch looks like there’s a lot of play in it, if you had a light weight trailer it would probably make a ton of noise when towing

That’s some heavy duty locking devices you got there! Like to see their fifth wheel lock.
Hey was just wondering have you done a review on gen-y hitch’s gooseneck and 5th wheel trailer side stuff?
Do they have a 5th wheel lock?
I like it keyed with the Medio lock
Can you flip the main hitch and use it if you had a high trailer?
Will it work in any configuration

Will that trailer lock work with a bulldog style trailer coupler?
Nice products. Do you know of anything that can lock the coupler to the trailer? I have a bolt on coupler on my aluminum trailer.
Depends on the coupler style. Kraken makes a cool one.

I see a flaw in you trailer. I would just bring my own chains and clip in where the other chains are clipped in. Those eye holes are pretty big.
The only flaw I see with the locks on the trailer door is the security star screws on the trailer door assembly.
$250 to $300 to protect $thousands is a good trade off
Simpler and cheaper solution: Drill a hole on top of the trailer coupler and feed a bike U lock thru it.
Drill through the center of the puck and the leg falls out and the trailer has been set free, 30 seconds picked…
Proven fixed that While ago after that was done.
Any locked can be picked in 30 seconds with the right knowledge and determination. They're not meant to be fool proof they're meant to be a deterrent
Just saw a guy drill this lock open in less than 20 seconds i would rethink this lock
And the link to substantiate you claim would be ... ?
In the UK the thief's use battery powered angle grinders how do these locks stand up to this
