The hilux and ranger strive to have as good a 4wd system as mitsi. I don’t know why people would think Mitsi is the one to catch them… how many Dakar rallies have they won.. Also, the lane centring and lane departure systems are far too intrusive. I’m glad to see they haven’t implemented it in this.
Hi-Lux have won 6 rally but for the Ranger nil cause they are just about to join next year, Ford was betting on their Bronco but failed to achieve its official time. The Mitsubishi however, have won heaps which is very impressive but to be honest, that front grill looks hideous.

The Mitsubishi was literally an inch and a half narrower than the rest and people would endlessly bitch about it. Hence the reason to make it wider and lengthen the wheelbase.
Don’t care that it doesn’t have “lane centreing’ I have eyes and a brain so I can work that out myself! Some tech in modern cars is really just a wank factor. I do like the tritons but the front on this new model to me is just gross 🤮. Much prefer the previous model for looks. I’m sure this new model does perform quite well although I wish they had not altered the dimensions of the Ute. It was fine how it was.

Why is it scary? Sequential twin turbo setups have been around for a very long time.. Plus Mitsubishi has almost zero turbo problems. Mitsubishi heavy duty industries actually makes turbos so Mitsubishi motors know their stuff.

Yes Mitsubishi makes generally reliable engines. However, Renault not so much. How much of Renault's hand involved in developing this ute is interesting to know. It's part of their alliance with Renault and nissan.

But like I said Mitsubishi turbos are brilliant. My 2006 Triton still runs the original IHI turbo after almost 18 years and 172,000 km. Ofc turbo wear depends on driving styles, quality of oil, operating conditions and maintenance such as cleaning, maintaining gaskets, air filters etc.

The new Ranger (best selling mid-size truck here in N.Z) and Amarok have also followed this trend, and I suspect a few more will too. The upcoming next-generation Navara will share the same flatform with this new Triton, which by default will give it this boxy shape (similarly with the new Ranger and Amarok duo). The next-generation Hilux is also said to be built on the same platform as it's American twin, the Tacoma and it's bigger sibling, the Tundra (which obviously are boxy designs).

It isn't a "ute". It is a truck. However good it is, a ute it ain't. It still is crap at being a car, crap at being a truck, weighs 2 tonnes and can only hold a smol load, on the second floor at that. Once you stop trying to keep up with the Joneses, it makes zero sense as a vehicle.
I worry about the twin turbo, by nature it’s adds complexity, added complexity in an everyday vehicle generally equals worse reliability. If you compared all the twin turbo engines ever made by various manufacturer, most are unreliable long term.

Matty old mate, be very wary of press cars, dont get sucked in: they are souped up, noise dampened, rattle free, for the press. Nothing like the production models bought from the dealers. And this is why most cars are stuffed up in design, to impress the motoring writers, take the ford territory, it got an irs, control blade rear that wears out in less than 100,00km due to 16 rubber bushes, when it should have had a coil solid rear axle, that never wears out. What buyer ever complained about the ride of a falcon wagon? No one. Only the press who want bmw performance not the mum and dads.

Wow, it doesn't have a stupid lane centring feature, which I would disable anyway. I'm the type of guy who will find the beeper and cut the wires or de-solder it. Then, I would wire the seatbelt wires together. I drive a 1996 Triton, carby, mechanical fuel pump. It's the most reliable car I've ever owned.

Is this a Mitsi or a Nissan/ Renault with a Mitsi badge? New engine? Unproven, Lots of redundant steel. Less efficient due to extra weight and of unproven relibility . Plus significantly more expensive. The best thing about this is that hopefully the runout models will be heavily discounted. More electronic gizmoseans more trouble down the line. I have a good laptop at home- the big screen is superfluous bling. Lane departure anscence is a positive geature in my view!

A single minute is the unit of time engine crankshaft rotations are counted/measured, only one, not two or three, just one. Saying RPM is the correct terminology, the Aussie way. Apart from a slip of the tongue that was a good review. Cheers

Softer springs aren't better. It means more sagging and poorer handling at high loads, but more comfort and less bouncing at light loads. Hilux tuning compromises different things, but isn't better or worse.

Had a D-Max and hated the lane keeper assist. Sold it after 18months. Bought a Patrol. Not having lane assist is a plus not a negative.

This thing looks propper crap. Exterior design looks 10-15 yrs out dated. Outgoing model looks so much sportier, balanced and modern.

Driving an F150 ecoboost 3.5 liter twin Turbo. Change oil every 5,000 miles and no regrets, expect long life and amazing performance.
