I watched this video when it was first published on YT and have used it as a teaching reference for the 'Omoplata' ever since. Always thought that from 0.26-0.35, in real life you have the opportunity to break the fingers or the wrist at any point, before even going to the shoulder lock. Traditional Jujutsu/Aiki-Jujutsu styles do teach those extras. A great channel with excellent instructors. Thank you for uploading all of your videos onto YT throughout the years.
It’s called 101, which means entry level, beginners explanation. It is only 1 min 6 seconds long. This is NOT in depth. This is a fundamental explanation of WHAT an omoplata is. This is not how to break down resistance, turning their roll into a sweep, other attacking options, etc. He knows. Trust me, he knows.
What I like about submissions 101 is that they don't record one take and then show it 10 times just at different angles lol. They also go into great detail for the length of their videos.
The reason jj guys sit up is because it puts your whole body weight on the shoulder as opposed to just arms vs arm. It also keeps the guy flat on his belly as you lean in. Hope that helps.
I came over a year or so ago for a JJBC workshop. You taught a gi choke where you used the bottom part of your gi to choke your opponent from a side mount position.
You don't have to be SUPER fast because you have the shoulder issolated. He will try and get to his kness and perhaps do a forward roll. If that happens, just grab around his waist and prevent the roll.
instead of leaning forward, applying pressure to the shoulder, you could do a labell lock (trapping the arm in between your legs and pulling their head up, applying pressure all around the head, neck, and shoulders
I knew it! I always thought if someone did a forward roll while on their knees they can quick escape from the lock, but its alright, because you can counter with an armbar if they manage the roll. Although armbars are easier to escape, its best to take every chance you get.
After all bjj classes I finally got this submission I really was just tryin to get back control but saw the omniplata and went for it, it's a pretty cool move
This move screwed my shoulder up lol. I was just learning how to perform this along with other newbies. Now, I'm a flexible guy with a decent pain tolerance, so this move wasn't particularly painful, especially coming from someone who had never attempted it before. Despite the lack of pain, my shoulder was bent pretty far and it's never been able to stretch as that much since then. I feel pain even in simple tasks such as crossing my arms. Oh well, was an incredible experience in BJJ.
I find that when balance is hard to maintain and the omaplata isn't quite working I grab the arm and push it forward and down to the floor. Its works really well and is similar to a kimura, but not quite the same. Great videos. One question, are you guys 10 th planet or someting else? I wonder, because you wear gi's.
Your guys' videos are so cool, I tried some of your moves (the teepee, the bolt lock, and the ankle lock) on the guys at my gym and they totally didn't see it coming, I was tapping out guys that have been there more than twice I have. Let me know if you guys are opening a school on the mainland, preferably around the tricity area, burnaby, or new west, I would be more than happy to join.
I was taught this move years ago, and I am revisiting it. When you reach the position at 00:35, I was taught to create a little space and move about 1.5 to 2 inches away from the opponent before completing the lock. Do you recommend staying tight, or creating space? Or does it depend a little bit on your body style? (I am short and stocky). I really enjoy the channel by the way...
and if he gets the roll, keep the arm between your legs so that you can use both arms to attack his other arm. or in mma, you can get a crucifix and just start hitting him, without his arms in the way.
If it fails i go for jujigatame, even then i can return to the omoplata... really effective, just be carefull to not become predictable (a one trick ponny like me lol).
Never Back Down 2. If you get the chance to watch this, please do so. Its with Michael Jai White. I know its a choreographed movie but there is an alternative way of doing this. By staring of with a Triangle. Watch it on Netflix. Its the finishing move!
if you take too long and you dont have your opponent collapse to his belly.. he can stretch the near leg and tuck the far knee tight for a duck under escape.. hard to describe in words but look it up im sure it is on here somewhere
However, you T Rex/ DA the guy as he attempts to do so (the counter to the counter)...what's that you ask? Get Eddie Bravo's book and you'll see.... cheers! Sub 101 Team
scary to watch. if red push harder for some reason - white is broken. What if you are within a competition and he is a bad guy who don't care if you tap?
this could of been shown much better. you leave out all the middle of braking the guy down with your legs to flatting him out with the arm and the legs and how to properly bring yourself up. don't agree with the set up but if it works for you. I'm no black belt.
I would rather be armbared, or kimured over this. This amount of weight and pain you feel has got to be insane when done right.
hey guys, just started learning bjj, and i really enjoy your explanations and demonstrations. great stuff, keep them coming!
I have been to one of your clinics. I think you have a very no-nonsense, easy to follow style. I hope you keep making videos
First year bjj student here and your videos are great in between lessons to keep up on my moves. Thanks alot!

Yes, but currently I am on the injured list with a herniated disk. I hope to be healed, and visit your dojo again someday soon.
The best Omoplata instructional hands down!

u guys probably have the best how to vids on here, 5 stars
The 'pushing away' elements are important, if not , everything is just slightly too 'squashed up'. thanks for the nice demo.

great series

There was this one ADCC fight when Antonio schembri submit a wrestler with an Omoplata after transitioning from a triangle choke.
nope...we are on the West Coast of Canada.

How is your shoulder now?
When did you visit us?
it can be controlled with dicipline during training like most Bjj holds. been caught in the hold and have used it in training.
Great videos. Nice work Gents.
king of kings!! Great stuff man! 5 stars for you!

When I take the omoplata I do a triangle on my legs:)

Really? Well, there are plenty of guys out there that do. Keep your options open!
cheers

Isit a must for your right hand to be around his waist? If its not needed a headlock can be done too.
that looks so unbelievably painful

Dude u rock!!!
looks like a great technique to use when you cant get the gogoplata right away
if you take too long and you dont have your opponent collapse to his belly.. he can stretch the near leg and tuck the far knee tight for a duck under escape.. hard to describe in words but look it up im sure it is on here somewhere
Is this move from a specific martial art? Or it is just a special move?
79 people got owned by the omoplata
how do you incorporate it in mma where there it is illegal to hold the opponent's shorts?
greetings from argentina !
If you do this no with nogi, just grab the bottom of your opponents shirt or the waist area of his pants
good stuff, you guys should do some no-gi stuff too.
How do you keep him from rolling
if he would grab his head it would be a yes lock by daniel bryan
d'aww, you're so young
Then you should probably run because I doubt he simply wants to grapple with you...

😂😂😂
very helpful
is this a variation of the Kimura?
Im georges stpierre

Van city? I live and train in Edmonton.
However, you T Rex/ DA the guy as he attempts to do so (the counter to the counter)...what's that you ask? Get Eddie Bravo's book and you'll see....

Nice.
add a face lock onto that and you have a YES lock
haha... i never have to go this far. no one knows how to defend the kimura well enough
And what if doesn't he have shirt or pants?
we are..polite Canadians ;-)
I think it's just so they can't do a forward roll.
Ilikeit
