Things have gone beyond civil rights and become very corrosive. We should have stopped at tolerance instead of pushing for pride. It was cathartic after repression to say “I’m proud of who I am” but in retrospect my sexuality is only a part of who I am and there’s no need or cause for pride in that, especially now that we see how damaging it can be for society to promote sexuality to the status of identity.
I came out after Ellen did in the Fall of '97 at the age of 30. I've marched in 2 NY City Pride parades in '98 and the early 2000s. I was also in the drag scene for 12 years. Nowadays I'm afraid to go out to the clubs because of pronouns. I've gone out with Trans Women in the early 2000s as well, but now the movement has gone too Far-Left for me. I now refer to it as the Alphabet Cult. Gays & Lesbians along with Women have been totally erased. I've been erased from my community here in Groton, NY (home of Smith-Corona and 20 minutes outside of Ithaca). I used to be included in Ithaca potlucks with Cornell & Ithaca College workers, but now I'm an afterthought because of my beliefs. I can't get over the new bazillionth form of gender: Seasons. On the other hand, I think I'll refer to myself as 'Summer' because I just can't get enough of it LOL~~~
I'm a 42 year old man living in Brighton. I walk the minefield every day. People who don't identify as Queer or Trans here, are in the minority. Gay men are considered dinosaurs - especially those who have dared to live beyond 40 like me. The Queers for Palestine are protesting most weekends. If I say anything about that, I'm a racist bigot. I just want everybody to get along, but I'm tired of tolerating the intolerant, and told my voice doesn't count. You were one of the first gay people I saw on tv, and have always been somebody I thought of as fearless. I know real life away from the screen is much more complex, but stay strong. To lots of gay men, your voice is important.
isnt, all the trans, gay, straight stuff put aside, the decision on who you wanna engage with in whatever form, your decision and the people involved in it? case by case and non of nobody else`s beeswax and fundamentally beyond arguing? is my body, my choice still a thing?
My relatively few young gay friends all accept, as a given, that trans men are men and trans women are women. Or at least that's what they say. I'm not convinced they'd have sex with trans men if, as it were, push came to shove. My older gay friends, amongst whom are some who were gay rights activists, are deeply offended by the insistence that if they refuse to have sex with trans men they are transphobic. They see this as just another form of homophobia.
@@ScottCapurro1 Why is this even an issue? Let people have sex with whoever they want (or not) - as long as it is consensual. All of this is just in people's heads and to be perfectly honest if I knew what was in everyone's head I would probably be so turned off I would never have sex again.
@@ScottCapurro1 your voice is very calming. Even when talking about pretty heavy topics. If you just rambled exposition I think that channel would take off.
"..by the way: You're welcome for all of that Civil Rights work for four decades..." - THIS; this is my laconic War Cry.
+1
"...It's the same old homophobia rehatched..."
The fight was always for freedom, some purposely change it power and that's a reflection on them.
Namaste, have a great Sunday!
Scott keep being your fabulous self it's time the LGB started to fight back ❤🎉

Your older friends are correct. Such a demand is absurd and, again, it's heteros telling gay men what they should desire and how they should behave.

You should create an ASMR channel.
